I was in the chess club in high school. I was not good, mind you, but I had fun.
My favorite piece is the knight
I was in the library (where chess club was held) and I was playing a weird version of chess where the boards and pieces were much larger
You could add attachments to the pieces that gave the piece buffs for a few turns, depending on the color of the attachment
It was like one of those bingoball roller things, when you stopped a capsule would be there that you could pull out, similar to the ones you'd see at a mall or arcade or whatever
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
I kept getting bad attachments
The attachments are rated as such: Common (Grey), Uncommon (Green), Rare (Blue), Epic (Yellow), Legendary (Red), and Mythical (Iridescent)
I kept getting common and uncommons
Common would increase a piece's end range by 1 for 1 turn
Meaning a knight would now go 2 and then another 2 instead of the 2 1 (If that makes sense)
You could evolve attachments by fusing 2 of the same (each attachment was also for a specific piece, common pawn, epic bishop, etc)
Once a piece got at least 1 epic attachment you could "evolve" it into a new piece
The evolved piece moved onto another board
where you had to reach the next area
Essentially, the game started at a common board, moved onto uncommon, etc all the way to Mythical board
The boards got larger with new tiles and spaces, giving attachments and other stuff (I forget the rest)
I made it to the epic board before my opponent got to mythical and won the game
Snacks were being passed around as I lost and right before I bit into it, I woke up
