Chapter 32: “Check” – Part 1.

  Ash slowly fell as the unseasonable cold breeze filled the air. Bing the ground with its heavier parts, the ground appeared to be a grisly snow that slowly strahe vegetation as it took over the nd. bined with the eldritch e-red glow from the flicker of the city and the quarter-moon peeking out from dank clouds that drifted by, this part of the world weled Halloween night.

  Traditionally a night of fake horror and jubint parties to celebrate an archaic tradition, Halloween had morphed into a night of sugar-ridden children or drunk adults all in various es for one glorious evening. This Halloween had beuch different than expected. Streets normally lined with beautiful yellow-gold maple leaves for the kids to kick were repced by sm chars of bed charcoal that simply turned into a fine powder if touched.

  Although there were screams and scares, the hand of twisted fate sent the living denizens into an unnatural frenzy of chaotic madness. Howls of terror radiated through the city as people rolled and writhed on the ground. People normally brave and strong, were reduced to shadows of themselves g hopelessly in vain. Anguish overtook many others so deeply that the only thing they could do was sit and stare bnkly in shock.

  Standing on an overlook, enjoying her newly created Halloween hell, Archaios Enas glowed and flowed with so muergy and power that her white tendrils pulsed wickedly beyond the boundaries of Tatum's body. Easily trolling the older woman's body, spirit and mind, Enas used the mage's e with the life around her and wantonly burhrough the blue stohat fueled her new magibsp; g nothing for the people below, Enas cast lightning and swallowed folks in white streaks of electrical current until a piece of kyanite disappeared. The subsequent pain and suffering of the people ed Enas pause long enough that what was left of Tatum could feel and uand what was .

  -This magic is so potent and fresh, a aste after a lovely starvation.-

  Rag deep within her clutches, Enas jerked Tatum's spirit so hard that the pain rolled like a wave through the woman's body.

  -“Magic-shell, look at your precious flesh-shells falling to our will. My will. Oh yes, I could finish you quickly and ge on yical taint. That rush is over too fast. I'm going to enjoy every morsel of what you used to be. I'm going to use yi ways that will make you cry and wail with suffrage until you lose track of time. Oy, one vilge at a time. Until we've ed everyone here...and you get the honor of watg.”-

  Drawing energy from the pitiful pain Tatum offered, the white wraith urged her beloved others. "Yes, take it all." Enas calmly anded. “All the flesh you corrupt or destroy, force these shells to wither or burst into pockets of vapor before your diamond eyes.” Certainly, capable of making a big and loud speech, Enas simply kept her voice calm yet dangerously murderous as she ordered her followers.

  Dozens of Shadewraiths desded and swept through the dying streets and uheir prior attacks, they didn't bother to corrupt and draw out their torture. Fshes of sharp aallic-looking cws mixed with their guttural kerning preceded every attabsp; Blood mist and flesh filled the air followed by anguished yet futile shrieks as what was left if the popuce tried to escape their dyiiny.

  {"Take heed and turn your ears to the sound of thousands of feathers catg the air. Watch closely as our foes are incapable of fighting the portal song."}

  Half-listening to Archaios Enas as they dig deeper into the remains of the town, feeding their voracious bed and for chaos and fear, the many shadewraiths heard what their leader was telling them empathically.

  It was as though flocks of different species of birds and bats flew in unison towards the portal and its heavenly song. As the small flocks of up to fifty vampires approached, o a time they would fold in their wings and dive headlong towards the portal pool as though they were a flock of tern hunting fish.

  While the majority of vampires in their bird form simply disappeared into the mercury, the iable happened. Less than five at any given time would pull up just in time to avoid their grizzly fate oher end. Because there were no trees present around the hill the freed vampires did the best they could trying to ram their brethren off course and preserve as many as possible.

  {"We khis would happen, blessed ones. Join with me a's feast more."}

  Laughter erupted throughout many of the shadewraiths and per her and a fehous bs appeared flying over Enas's head.

  {"We await your word white goddess let these blood-shells see your will be done."}

  A few shadewraiths preached in unison.

  Peeling off little wispy tendrils of her eerie white form, Archaios Enas ed the free vampires in a uch like she'd doum a few hours prior. Reinf her will with the mage's magic, she became the white widow spider. She pulled the vampires to in and free your brethren. No time fames. Pull them free no matter the cost..." She ughed and crushed another handful of kyanite just to use the magic to siphon out their blood. "When you've freed our brother, toss the fang-shell through the portal. None survive."

  "As Archaios ands, we serve. None survive." The shadewraiths closest to Enas responded and blended in with the captive vampire. Rather than just tossing the helpless vampire bodies through the portal, shadewraiths with expert precision exploded from the undead bodies and tore the darkness from the vampires in a dispy of undead gray gore that rained dowhe portal. One by ohe vile shades preseheir new brethren by holding their sleeping form before their leader. "They aren't aware, Archaios...let us devour these leftovers, the blood-shells were too easy." Excited maniacal ughter came from Enas’s servants as the request left their crazed lips.

  "Later, we he numbers at this moment. Leave these here and go kill the others that escape the call of the song." With a fsh of her bck soulless eyes, the others flew off and did as instructed catg the vampires as they tried to escape. Turnitention to the unborn shadewraiths, Archaios used the vast expertise of memory that Tatum possessed and found what she was looking for. “There we are, life from death.” She stretched out Tatum’s runed hand and upon blending her esseh that of earth magic, sent little green wispy balls shooting from the ruhat were covered in her own tiny strands of pure white webbing. Impag the clouds, the magic fred to life and spread the green energy and white silky strands nonstop through the awaiting shapeless beings. “Your dream is over. Your chaos is released from the prison of the undead, take your former masters as they try to escape. Make them suffer.”
