Chapter 18
When Kara woke up in the infirmary her head was foggy, she glanced around as her head throbbed, she was wearing a new pair of black boyshorts, her torso was tightly wrapped from her stomach to her shoulders, and over her right bicep, in bright white medical tape, she got unsteadily out of the bed and stumbled down the hall towards the elevator, she stabbed groggily at the button for the roof till the doors slid closed, she leaned against the metal wall feeling queasy as she rode upward, when the doors slid open she stumbled out and fell to her hands and knees after only a few steps.
Sunlight hit her exposed skin, her vision blurred, the sick feeling in her stomach faded till it was just a dull discomfort,
“What are you doing up here?” Garfield had appeared at the stairwell door behind her, he rushed to her side,
“Kal’El was invincible, wasn’t he?” She asked, through pained breaths,
“They said it was kryptonite, even Superman was weakened by kryptonite” Garfield tried to assure her,

“I’m supposed to protect people, I’m not supposed to get hurt, it’s not suppose to hurt this bad, Kal-El wouldn’t have let them get Alice” Tears poured down her face, Garfield tried to think of something to say to comfort her but couldn’t come up with anything, finally he said,
“We need to get you back downstairs, come on” His voice was suddenly urgent, he looped his arm under her armpits, once she was on her feet Kara saw a pool of blood on the ground, the wound on her stomach had reopened, Garfield moved her carefully but quickly back to the elevator, once they were moving down Garfield pulled off his tee shirt and used it to apply pressure to her wound.
Batgirl, Robin, Perez, Sayre, and Bell sat around the table in 1 of the conference rooms on the 5th floor in the Tower,
“If Tetch follows his pattern then this is the radius from the abduction site we should be looking at” Robin said, using his finger to circle an area on a large screen that displayed a map of Metropolis,
“Add 5 miles in” Detective Sayre said, Batgirl had been about to say the same thing,
“We should focus on the old city and the edge of the new city, less cameras” She said, she noticed Sayre nod subtly in agreement, he reminded her of her father,
“Let’s focus exclusively on buildings that have been unused for 2 or more months” Sayre said,
“I’ve already got a program sorting them for us” Robin responded, a second later a long list of results appeared on the screen,
“There’s way too many” Chief Perez said, they all glanced around the table disheartened,
“Let’s sort out any directly surrounded by open businesses,” Batgirl said.
Garfield sat in the hallway outside the infirmary, he was watching the progress from the team downstairs, on a tablet, he had brought Kara back to bed and had been set to keep an eye on her, he slid his thumb across the screen, switching from the list of properties to the file on Jarvis Tetch.
