The return of a rival

In a military base miles away from Camelot was a commander, short stocky man with a missing arm, standing at attention. Waiting in front of his base, he looked at the inspector to see the results of his inspection. All Avalonian bases go through rigorous inspection. This is to ensure that all bases are up to standard and that they are carrying out their duties. Since all inspections are carried out by Diviners, it makes these inspections ever so frightful. Except for this inspection, as it doesn’t phase this commander since compared to the wars he been through, he was rather calm despite having his base be inspected. With an emblem of 3 gold swords, he was of a higher rank. After the war, even though many soldiers were on the losing side, they were all hired to be a part of the new military. Despite the hatred, many with nowhere to go were provided an opportunity by the Diviners. Eventually, after many years of service, many of the soldiers had retired and let their hatred dissipate as they realised their family and life were given more benefits than the previous regime. However, not all could move on from the past.

“Well, Commander Dan...it seems like everything is in order. The inspector said as he was writing his report. “But due to your incompetence we will hand you a punishment if you don’t find out who those raiders are. Do you understand?”

“Yes, I understand. And if I may? Deputy Commander Gilius will work with me as well?”

“Yes he will assist you in solving this case. This is your only opportunity. If he can’t help you find it. You know what happens.” Good deeds come with rewards; however, failure comes with great punishment. One of the things that makes Avalonians very strict is their lack of tolerance for crime as once a crime have been found guilty, punishment will never be lightened and will be strictly enforced."

“I am very aware, and I will strive to do the best for the Order,” Dan said as he bowed. The inspector then left on the helicopter while Commander Dan went to his office. Little did they know that in his office was a stationary bookshelf. No matter how you look at it, it was a bookshelf if you moved it. Before, they did everything to tear it down because they thought something was behind it. They even scanned the entire wall to see if there was anything. However, nothing was found out. It was rather stressful for Dan as he thought it was the end of him. Fortunately, luck was on his side today. Touching the wall with his hand, nothing happened. The reason there was no reaction was that it required a two-way sequence for it to be seen. The hand had to be placed on the wall first before anything could happen. Then Dan touched a book in the bookshelf, which activated the key. Soon, the wall had a 5. Dan instantly pressed buttons around like it was a phone as he pressed the password. At first, nothing happened, but it was till it said this that it started to move.

“Complete. Authorized individuals have been confirmed. Lowering elevator now.” The entire office then moved down as the perfect wall was two, making sure the outside remained the same while the inside moved. Sinking down, Dan immediately changed his uniform as he donned another uniform that he found more suitable. Stopping, the door opened itself to a secret base that was far beneath the one provided by the Avalonian military. Walking inside, Dan saw a bunch of soldiers who weren’t wearing any badges or uniforms that belonged to the order or military. This was the base for the rebels. This was the base for the Liberties.

As Commander Dan entered the cave, he walked past boxes upon boxes as he then surveyed soldiers who were opening the cases for him. Unveiling all sorts of weapons from rifles, snipers, machine guns, and even explosives. Continuing was bigger boxes filled with armor suits and the latest equipment for the newest soldiers. All of this had the order’s insignia showing that it belonged to Avalonian military. But those were being removed one by one as they were marked with a new insignia. With stars that has stripes inside it was the banner that represents where their allegiance truly lie. Liberties.

A bunch of soldiers then arrived as they were covered in camouflage. Arriving they brought trucks full of more containers of weapons as they all saluted to Commander Dan.

“Sir, report. We have gotten the last amounts that we needed for the mission.”

“Good work, go rest up now.” Many of the men soon left as someone else came with a letter.

“Message from Gilius. He will come tomorrow as scheduled.”

“Good, then get ready to welcome him.” Opening the letter, Dan then looked at the message as it was written so that he would understand. Reading it, he didn’t seem to be happy at all. Rather, he seemed to be serious about something as he looked at the grand cave he had built. It was not just a small one. But it was a large underground base. Filled with fighter jets, tanks, helicopters, and even large rockets. These weren’t for a small skirmish. “Almost there.” Dan then felt accomplished as he had fulfilled his part of the job. As his job got closer, it seem like he could sigh some relief. Looking at the dark cave though it seems like his problems could only grow bigger than smaller.

In another part of the North New Terra in the western mountainous region, one of Liberties resistance base was found out. In a torn-down building was an ongoing fight as guns were being shot from both sides. People in the buildings were suffering casualties as their forces were slowly dwindling due to a lack of resources. The liberties had been fighting Avalon's military for a day, which was already on the brink of collapse. After they lost the previous war, the liberties gathered and spread themselves to various places in order to create a resistance. Keeping themselves in secretive places, they help support any active members if they need help. Unfortunately, they don’t have the resources to go against the Avalonians, if they were to confront them head-on. Especially not the Diviners.

  “We need help over here.”

  “Ahhh!! I’m hit!!”

  “Ammo!! I need more Ammo!!!”

“Anyone!!!!!!! I need help to take him away.” The Liberties were screaming as they needed backup up but as they looked around, it was just empty shells and dead bodies. No one was going to hear their cries.

“Sir we can’t hold much longer!! Should we escape??!!” One of the soldier said to the leader as he already had a cloth that was covering his eye. Looking around it seemed like there was no one with anything. They were literally on their last limb.

“Idiot!! We are already surrounded. Just make sure we deleted all the files.” The leader was already injured as his shooting hand was shot.

“Yes we have destroyed most.... Aahh!!!” He screamed as a big explosion soon destroyed the wall next to the leader that destroying the soldier in the process. Seeing that he then peeked outside. In horror, however, it wasn’t what he wanted as figures of gold overcoats carrying long-barrel guns. Just seeing the guns and the insignia with the sword in the middle showed who what they are.

“It's the diviners!!! Everyone fire on them quickly!!! Everyone heard that immediately fired at them as they threw whatever they had left to shoot them. As they came out, there were only three diviners. Such small number of diviners. However, that was all that is needed to quell any problem against the order.

“Effing hell!!” The commander quickly then rushed to get up as he knew he had to fulfil his last job before he could die. “You two follow me!! Everyone else keeps fighting!! Till the last man!!!”

“Ohhh!!!” They roared as the ones with weapons kept fighting. While others got their blades, with even some getting bows and arrows, as they were going to do everything to stay on their ground. But this annoyed the Diviners as they found it to be useless, as they knew there was nothing but rubble left.

“Haaa, this mission is so boring… Why are we here?” The tan women looking in her thirties with green hair, stood behind the leader while doing her nails. Carrying a large gun on her, despite having a small but muscular frame did made it unnatural. Looking at the tall frame leader, he was walking slowly as he surveyed the area. Standing with glasses much like Leonardo, he was trying to look for traps along the way. With a gold strap on top, it identified him as the leader as he was making sure they were advancing without any chance of losing. Even though victory was already assured.

“Quiet, Angela, we are killing rebels who are going against the order. We have to make sure we complete the mission without fail.” The leader rolled up his sleeves as he pulled his long, brown, wavy hair back after taking his helmet off. Leading this operation was Noah of Agravain. “It took us a few months to find the last one in this region, so it's almost over.”

“Yes I know, Noah, but can’t we just finish this quickly?” She said as she then grabbed her gun and she blasted one of the windows, which destroyed the entire floor as well as being a bit excessive. “Some of these guys are so annoying.”

“They are rebels, of course they are.” Another guy said as he was walking next to Angela of Lamorak. His name was Julius of Tristan who hadn't even shot while wielding his sniper rifle. In fact he was looking at his blue hair as he was looking at his reflection as he try to look like a playboy despite his rather eccentric looking features. He was even looking at his coat to look good. Well, it didn’t matter since he wasn’t fighting. “Well anyway, we should wrap this up to be honest. Its almost sundown. Better to get it done before we have to wait another day.”

“Yes we probably should.” Noah then contacted the soldiers, “Move in!!!”

As the noise grew louder, the rebel leader then went to the room as he was looking at the computer screens. He looked to verify that everything was deleted, which was a sign of relief. But then he noticed one screen still functioning that showed that someone had forgotten to delete a few more files.

“No No we have to destroy it!!!” Despite having one hand, he was doing his best as he was trying to force the computer to wipe out all data in it. It was important as this was a plan that had been carefully formulated. If words get out, things could be catastrophic. “Fifty percent, we just need to hold out till then.” Pow pow. Gunshots were fired close, meaning ..his men..had all but ..

“Sir hurry!! We can’t hold much longer!!”Knowing there was no time, he grabbed his last grenade as he dropped his gun so he could destroy everything in the room. It was too late however, as three individuals walked in too soon. Wanting to pull the pin on the grenade, it slid through his fingers, leaving him to be shot in his two legs. Collapsing on the ground, he then tried to grab the pistol to retaliate. This however, was to draw attention as they didn’t notice that the computer was 80 percent finished.

“Hand over all information and we will pardon you for your act of treachery,” Noah said as he pointed the gun.

“Hn..you diviners say the dumbest things. Don’t lie to me, I know what your order is. They won’t even pardon me at all.” He was examining it as it was now at ninety percent. But before it could delete everything, Julius approached the computer.

“I think we got something.” Julius looked at the computer as it got his attention instantly. Moving closer to Julius, the rebel leader was trying to prolong it as long as possible. However it seemed futile as he was stopped by Angela.

“Stay there, please, so we can hurry this up.” Angela said as she shot his remaining arm. Noah then got closer as he pointed the gun at him.

“Now tell us what you know or we will force you.” Stuck in a corner, the rebel leader saw that most of it was deleted so he was satisfied with it. There was only a few piece left so they couldn't do much with that. Seeing that his last task was complete made sure he could at least take a few lives with him. Knowing that his death was imminent, he rather end it himself than the enemy.

“Sorry but I’m going to have to say no.” Using his feet, he quickly used them to post his head to hit a button. The three were surprised but then realised what it was.

“Warning the self-destruction sequence is now initiating… you have three seconds before self-destruction.” The computer said. Although Noah wanted to take him with them, there was no time. Creating a barrier, Noah only had time to protect the three of them. This left the rebel leader to his death.

“Julius, take it!!!!” Julius then quickly got the chip as they quickly got into the barrier, leaving the rest of the soldiers to be left helpless to the attack. Noah didn’t have time to warn the soldiers, as he could just save his other two.

“For the free lands…” He said before everything exploded. Boom..then the entire place soon followed as the commander brought as many avalonian soldiers with them. Even the remaining Liberty soldiers had to face death as they were already trapped in the building. With the entire infrastructure down, all that remained were three people that were soon surrounded with an energy sphere as the debris collapsed all over them.

“Well, that was exciting, wouldn’t you say?” Julius sarcastically said as he was hiding behind Noah. Not even phasing him, he treats the explosion like any normal day.

“Wow, these guys are really crazy. To think they will go and blow everything up. Those liberties really are suicidal.”

“Let's not care about that. We completed our mission in finding the hideout and recovered some information. Since this was the last hideout here. That means we are done!!!!” In an instant, all the concerns left Julius as he give a good smile as he was looking forward to what was next.

“That means….” Angela said as she was super excited about the news. “We can finally return to the Capital!!!!”

“Ohhhhh looks like something is happening,” Julius joked. “The reason why you were working so hard was that you wanted to go back. Haaa...to think I thought you wanted to have fun here.”

“Shut up!! What's so good about traveling everywhere to find these idiots? It's better if we go home and enjoy a wonderful shower and shopping. In fact I get to spend time with…Leo……”

“Leonora?” Julius smirked as he knew who she was going to say. But instead he said something else than what Angela was intending to say.

“Yeah yeah that is right. Leonora. She isn’t going to live that long, so might as well spend time with her.” Angela tries to cover up. But this trigger a nerve from someone who didn’t seem like hearing it.

“Enough!!! Don’t talk about her in such a way. She is still a member of Twelve.” Noah said as he lowered the shield. “Anyways, we will return to Camelot right now.” The other two nodded as Noah then looked at his pendant.

“Don’t feel bad if you feel injured, I will heal you as much as possible.” He then clutched the pendant as he recalled Leonora’s voice.

  “I’m coming home.”
