A light between shadows

As the battle raged, the two then fought to the point that the walls of the building was being destroyed. Swords were lying around as the onslaught between the two continued from various angles. Even the ceiling was nailed with weapons. Shadow dwellers were more akin to fighting with close combat weapons. This was because they would want to be stealthy while also not being noticed. Not to mention, they prefer to use close combat weapons in long distances rather than guns. Using their shadow, they could use their weapons at long range while also using their shadows. Also, since the weapons are preserved within the shadow without deteriorating, they could use it several times more than guns. A bullet once used can’t really be used again. It's because of that shadow dweller store has many...many weapons.

“ha..ha….ha...Dam...everything was going well till you showed up.” Gilius said as he caught his breath. He had already distanced himself as he pulled out a few more daggers. On the other side, Othello, who was standing there seem to be in tip-top shape. He hadn’t sweated at all, showing his incredible skills in combat as well as the gap between the two.

“Hmm please forgive me. But unfortunately, I’m under employment, so I had to do this.” Othello then proceeded to destroy more machines. To prevent further damage, Gilius tried to fight him, hoping to find a way to victory. Pushing Othello, he then took him out of the room.

“Let's see if you can fight in the shadows as much as you are fighting in the light.” Gilius said as he made the building go dark as he shut all power. Thinking he would be able to use that to his advantage, he brought the fight to another level. However, the action within the shadow didn’t change the results any better.

Cling clang. The two were fighting as they kept moving in the shadows. They would appear in and out between shadows as they would pop out and do a quick exchange before retreating into their own shadow. Even in the shadows, they would appear and fight within each other's shadows. Because the shadow was everywhere, there was no such thing as a ground. Like space, you could fight any way and at any angle. Up can be down, down can be left, and left can be right. There was no such thing as a floor.

The two were fighting on the side of the walls and were soon fighting on the ceiling. As long as they were in the shadows, they could move freely. From a camera, it would seem as though there were sparks everywhere. But in reality, it was the two duking it out in a one-on-one between those in the shadows. Sometimes weapons would be flying from both their shadow to the real world as thousands within the darkness were sent as projectiles to strike from a distance. Then, close combat would ensue, and the clashing of blades was the only indicator of where they were. However, moving from one place to another was hard to keep track of as the big building allowed their shadow to move freely. They would fight at the top of the ceiling to the bottom of the basement within a second. Traversing through the building, the intensity only grew as more weapons were scattered all over the premises. Within a few minutes, the entire building looked like it had gone through years of battle.

“Dam!!!” Gilius said as despite his speed being so much superior, he couldn’t beat him despite being in the shadows. Othello was grazed a few times but never significantly injured. While Gilius has been putting his all yet nothing is working.

Exchanging a few more blows, Gilius had to use his last resort which was using guns to fight him. Grabbing a pair of submachine guns, he fired at Othello at point-blank range. But moving within the shadow, he was able to dodge them with ease. Disappearing in the shadow to gain distance, then appear on Gilius' blind spot as he immeadtely slice the gun before being able to fire. Discarding the guns, Gilius then summoned new ones as he kept trying to fire at him. To no avail, as they were just being shot at the walls as Othello vanished in his shadows.

“Sorry, but this is wasting time.” Appearing out of nowhere, Othello got behind Gilius.

“Puugh!!!” As Gilius was trying to find him, Othello threw a powerful kick right at his face, sending Gilius flying right at the display screens. Wanting to disappear into the shadows to avoid impact, Othello had already planted lights beforehand, making him faceplant the wall.

“Hmph seems like you in over your head? You are the one supposed to complete such a dangerous mission yet you can’t even fight against a traitor like me.”

“Ha...like I said if it wasn’t for you...I would have completed my mission.”

“Unfortunate. And after I kill you, I will look into what you are trying to hide.” Hearing that, Gilius then tried to jump at him with a knife before getting hit in the gut. Trying to use the shadows, Othello seemed to use more lights as it prevent Gilius from using the shadows.

“Sad to think that I will have to kill a brethren in such a way.” Grabbing Gilius as he single-handedly grabbed him up with one hand, as he proceeded to choke him to death. Trying to shake Othello off, Gilius tried to cut the arm but got slammed to the floor. Losing his grip, he tried to get himself out of his reach. But it was so tight that he was losing air as he was about to faint. Without focus, he couldn’t summon his weapons from the shadows.

Losing a bit of consciousness, he was sad as he hoped that a small light would give him a chance. As he was about to give in, he soon felt his neck loosen. Using that opportunity, he then grabbed two guns as he shot at Othell,o who then quickly disarmed him, while dodging rather quickly. Despite Gilius shooting at him, Othello wasn’t paying attention as he noticed something strange. Gilius then looked as he realised a large hole had appeared with burn marks on the other side. It was silent, and Gilius didn’t hear of it. But then a light appeared as footsteps could be heard.

Walking slowly, Othello seemed to have prepared himself, as he did not like the foe he was about to face. As the footsteps got closer, it soon unravel who it was that came.

“Well well if it isn’t my boss. I ask you where you’ll be, but you decided to leave me in the dark. Guess you owe me dinner after this?” Pointing his gun at Othello, he instantly walked next to Gilius. However, he was maintaining his distance as well as keeping his shadows away from others. Though it sounded weird but Othello was noticing how Menace respected him as an opponent.

"What do you think? Do you think we have a chance?" Gilius then connected his shadow with Menaces.

"Hard to say. Were you able to do anything to him?"

  "No not really…"

"Then we are probably screwed." Gilius then looked at Menace as he didn't know if he was kidding or actually serious. But despite saying that, he wasn't shaking or worried. Gilius was then about to engage, but Menace stopped him. "Don't engage first. Let me do it. Your job is to follow up."

  "But I can bait him."

"No, because your shadow moves too much. There is no way I can follow up if I don't know where the fight is. Besides…" Just as he was about to say more, Menace instantly shot behind him. It may have sounded weird, but somehow Othello found a way to shoot a sword from behind. But he blasted it with ease.

"Hooo I sneak it so perfectly. How were you able to see it so well?”

“Let's just say I happen to think twice as fast.”

“Well, you know how I fight. Fighting against someone like that is pretty much the same.” Fausto explained. “I will tell you when to be worried.” As an experience shadow dweller, he also knows how to fight in the shadow so he is able to give warnings to his counterpart.

“Now follow my lead. Also although I have the ability to fight him one-on-one. I don’t want to waste my energy at all.” Menace warned. This was the first time he actually took a stance. This was showing how serious he was. As well as making sure he stay conservative. This was doubtful as he could tell…this man was strong.

The three then engage in combat. Menace was the first one to fire as he then rapidly fired a bunch of projectiles at Othello. Dodging Othello then appeared in his shadow before appearing out again while moving in between covers. Blinding speed as he clearly was moving faster compared to fighting Gilius. Othello was trying to get close to Menace but Gilius would always intercept him despite not having the strength to face him. As long as Menace had a clear shot, Othello would be vulnerable.

“So that is your plan. You are using him as a meat shield while you play the offensive role.” Othello said as he distance.

“I wouldn’t say it that way as he is a person. More like a personal dummy.” Menace interjected. Both were rather enjoying it as they were insulting Gilius. Though Gilius was rather mad about the insult, he really couldn’t do much about it because it was the situation he was put in. However, Othello then turned up a notch as his shadows soon had weapons sprout out as well.

“I don’t prefer this, but let's see if you can go against me this way.” He then summoned a hundred daggers. Gilius tried to counter with his own to stop midway as Menace got in front as he then rapid fire as he was able to shoot all of them coming there way. Gilius was confused, but then he noticed that Othello was above, as he had several spears that were raining down. Reacting, Gilius realized that Menace did that so that he can get rid of the attacks from above. Pulling a staff out, out he created an umbrella as he was able to protect the two.

Thud, seeing that Gilius was wide open, Othello side kicks Gilius straight at Menace, trying to knock both of them at one time. Menace was already distracted, but with a swift side step, he was able to avoid getting hit as he twirled around and pointed one of his guns at Othello. Just as he was going to pull the trigger, Othello instantly disappeared but using Gilius' shadow, he was able to warp right behind Menace’s as he was left wide open from behind.

“Check…” Othello was going to land the final blow as he had a sword ready to pierce Menace's heart.

“Mate…….” Splat blood started to splurt as both retreated. Gilius was stuck at the wall again as he quickly got back on his feet. He then looked to see the fight. Menace didn’t even have to look at Othello as he had already patched his wound, proving that he had already gotten hurt.

“What happened?” Gilius said. Despite it being a minor injury, it still was more than what he could put up with. Especially from a diviner whose attack aren't like those from a bullet wound.

“How did you know??” Surprised as Othello executed it so well, but failed at the last minute.

“Because you shadow dwellers all face diviners the same. One hit wonders. So you always have to keep your guard up.” He then pointed at the other gun as the coat had a hole appear from the barrel.

During the fight, Menace had only shown one gun. Using his coat, he used it as a cover to hide a gun that he had found on the ground. And seeing Gilius' shadow move towards his shadow, he knew the plan. Seeing that Othello admitted defeat when it came to that last engagement. He then somehow covered the wound as it stopped bleeding.

“I see we’ll have to take things slowly. But….” Othello then pulled out a bunch of guns and swords. This time, he was going all out as he was even using guns as well. “How will you fare when I start using bullets. Can you keep it up??” Menace then retreated next to Gilius as he transformed his guns to be equipped with bayonets.

  “Gilius, get serious.”

“I was.” Getting up even though he got his guns out, it seems like he can’t go to his preferred style of fighting like he wanted to.

“Well try harder. This guy is not playing around.” Menace said as this was the first time he was serious with Gilius. Because despite the fact that he got a blow, Faust also received a stab as well because he wasn’t using divine energy to protect himself. Though less fatal, it still showed how deadly Othello was. He didn’t want to use more energy. But seeing how strong Othello was, he now had no more time to explain, as Othello already signalled the next round.
