Chapter 50: The Start of School (3)
Staring at the girl who walked in with a stiff face on a starry night.
It's Jin Weiwei, Jin Dashi's sister. Why have I been running into people from their family these past few days?!
Jin Weiwei took a glance at Xing Ye and Jia Luo, then turned her head away with an air of arrogance, clearly not recognizing Xing Ye. Xing Ye understood, as the last time they met, Jin Weiwei hadn't even given him a proper look.
"Hello, I'm Luo Xingye, the new one. From now on, we'll be living in the same dormitory." Xingye greeted her first, still having the necessary politeness.
Jin Weiwei completely ignored Xing Ye's greeting and muttered to herself, "I said I wanted a room of my own, how come you're stuffing people in one by one? This is impossible to live in. It's better to stay outside."
Having been rebuffed on that starry night, Xie Xun placated the somewhat angered Jia Luo, thinking to himself: I've shown you the courtesy you deserved; you have your pride and I have my own code of conduct. If you don't want to bother with me, then I won't go chasing after you either; let's just leave each other alone.
"Come on, take me to see the cafeteria, can we also buy meal tickets there?" Xing Ye pulled Jia Luo away, ignoring Jin Weiwei.
"Hmph, she really thinks she's a princess. Xing Ye, don't be afraid of her. If she bullies you, just tell me." Jia Luo had a very bad impression of Jin Weiwei.
"Princess?" Xing Ye was curious, was this Jin Weiwei's nickname?
"Yes, that's Jin Weiwei from Class 3, Senior High. She never gives anyone a straight look and everyone calls her Princess Jin." Jia Luo explained.
The starry night nodded in agreement, which was indeed consistent with Jin Weiwei's personality.
"I'll take you to the cafeteria for lunch today, but be mentally prepared, the food is not just bad, it's extremely bad. Another day I'll take you around to get familiar with some small shops nearby, they're much better than the school cafeteria." Jia Luo said.
"My goodness, so many people!" Xīng Yè exclaimed, gazing at the crowded restaurant.
"Yes, so from now on, if you want to eat in the school cafeteria, remember to come as soon as class is over. If you're late or slow to grab food, all you'll get is soup and buns!"
Starry night, licking tongue, it seems eating is still a difficult thing.
After buying the meal ticket, Jiā Luò introduced Xīng Yè to the window selling food, "The fat chef at this window gives more to girls than boys. If a girl who can talk says two nice sentences, when you buy 200 grams of rice, he will give you 500 grams."
Staring at the long queue under the starry night, he said with a sense of unease, "How much longer do we have to wait?"
Jia Kai smiled mysteriously, "It depends on one's own abilities, just wait and see."
Xing Ye just saw Jia Kai's tall figure agilely shuttling through the crowd, disappearing into the sea of people.
In a moment, Jia Luo squeezed out of the crowd with two plates in hand. Xing Ye couldn't help but admire him - to emerge from the crowd while ensuring that the food in his hands didn't spill was a feat that required skill, and he estimated that he himself wouldn't be able to do it.
Behind Jia Luo, a boy followed and muttered: "Jia Luo is not as unkind to friends as you are. I suffered in line without saying anything, and helped you add dishes. You're good, the last two braised pork ribs, you took them all by yourself. Can you bear to see me having no gravy for my cabbage and potatoes?"
"Jia Luo, he..." received the tray from Jia Luo's hands overnight and looked at the small boy following behind him.
Jia Luo waved his hand and said, "Don't mind him."
"Hey", that little boy saw Jiā Luò bǎ gave a dish of food to Xīng Yè, immediately came in interest, and familiarly greeted Xīng Yè.
He nodded at him under the starry night sky as a way of greeting.
Xing Ye and Jia Luo found an empty table and sat down, only to see the small boy carrying a plate sit down beside Jia Luo.
"Yu Jialuo, you're really something! When did you get such a beautiful girlfriend? You didn't even introduce her to your brothers!" The boy whispered into Jialuo's ear.
"Don't talk nonsense here." Jia Luo spat out the ribs in his mouth and retorted.
Ignoring their conversation, he focused on eating the lunch in front of him. To be honest, the dishes were decent and not as difficult to swallow as Jiā Luò had said, but compared to Méi Yí's cooking skills, they fell far short. It was probably because Jiā Luò was used to Méi Yí's culinary expertise that he found this meal unpalatable.
One after another, classmates of Jialuo came over to greet him. By the time Xingye noticed, their table was already filled with boys. Looking at the tables beside them, it seemed like there were still many empty seats! Xingye not only found this amusing but also wondered why he had never encountered such a situation when he was in school before.
"Have you finished eating?" Jialuo asked. He was always a fast eater and had already finished the same meal.
"Alright, I'll head back to the dorm first." Xīng Yè said, glancing around at the people nearby.
"Alright, find me if you need anything else." Jia Kai said.
Xing Ye nodded, got up and left. Just as she had just left, she heard a commotion behind her. Xing Ye turned around to see three or four people reaching out to grab Jia Luo. Xing Ye shook his head, sometimes the friendship between men was also hard to understand.
Back in the dormitory, Jin Weiwei had already left, and another roommate who had not been seen before had not returned yet. Xing Ye packed up her things again, looked at the time and found it was still early, so she picked up a book and leaned against the bed to read.
Hearing the commotion outside, Xing Ye took a look at his watch and found that it was almost time. He got up, tidied up his clothes, locked the door and went to the classroom.
"Luoxingye"
Xīng yè zhèng yào xià lóu, hòu miàn yī gè nǚ shēng jiào tā.
Translation:
Just as she was about to go downstairs at night, a girl behind her called out to her.
"Xue Bing, hello, is there something I can help you with?" Xing Ye remembered this girl and called out her name. He had once heard someone say that if you could call out the other person's name when meeting them, it would be easy to gain their favor, because deep down, everyone yearned for others' attention, care, and respect! And one of the most important steps in showing attention and respect for others was calling them by their name.
As expected, the girl was taken aback for a moment before breaking into a smile. "Are you going to class?"
"Starlight nodded, 'You too? Let's go together'"
Xue Bing said: "No need to go to the classroom, this afternoon is the opening ceremony, let's go to the auditorium together. You don't know the way, follow me."
In the grand auditorium, each grade and class were separated by section. The incoming students found their seats according to the class signs on the chairs. In front were the new high school freshmen, with teachers organizing them into neat rows. Behind them were the older high school sophomores and juniors, a sparse crowd, clearly with many still absent.
"That's all, sit down," Xue Bing said to Xing Ye.
Xing Ye sat down next to Xue Bing on a starry night, slowly chatting with Xue Bing, and from time to time, classmates came in and sat around.
The school leaders were already seated on the stage in front, and the principal announced the start of the ceremony. Then it was the turn of the school leaders to give speeches one after another. These obviously did not arouse the interest of these old students. Xīng Yè (a student) did take a serious look, just to remember a few of the school leaders, so as not to fail to recognize them when meeting face-to-face.
It wasn't until the representatives of the third year gave their welcoming speech and the first-year students' representative made a statement that some students reacted.
"He's a big shot in our school," Xue Bing said, pointing at the senior three representative on stage, a handsome boy.
"What?" Xīng Yè didn't show much interest, but still cooperated and asked a sentence.
"He, with the first place in the city's middle school entrance examination results, served as the secretary of the league branch, captain of the school basketball team, and editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, with many articles published. More importantly, don't you think he's handsome?" Xue Bing said, infatuated.
Looking at Xue Bing, who is a bit infatuated with stars at night, and then looking at the handsome guy talking on stage, it's just average, not particularly outstanding. However, compared to that stuttering freshman representative, he is at least calm and majestic enough.
Xue Bing whispered mysteriously in Xing Ye's ear, "I heard he has some unclear relationships with the four school flowers, don't you think it's scary?"
It's indeed gossip everywhere, and even the four school flowers are unknown at night, but still nodding in agreement. As a high school student, having such rumors is already impressive!
It's unclear whether it was the charm of gossip or Xing Ye's deliberate attempts to please her, but after the meeting, Xue Bing had already become fast friends with Xing Ye and was warmly introducing her to the campus, teachers, and classmates, sharing all sorts of gossip. In reality, there were some things that Jia Luo should have told Xing Ye, but he was still a thoughtless and insensitive big boy who hadn't even considered them.
Xing Ye is more than happy to have Xue Bing as a friend who speaks her mind, and he compliments her in a subtle way, making her smile with pleasure, feeling like they've known each other for a long time.
