I grit my teeth as I sense another explosion of energy coming from the distance.
That’s the fifteenth one I’ve sensed since the first user reached Ascendant Tier. Meanwhile I’m still stuck here teleporting everywhere.
This is really annoying.
The skill is still only level forty-nine. And judging by what I know of Tier 5, it’ll probably take me another half a year to reach level fifty.
But there’s already been fifteen users who have reached Ascendant Tier.
Even the Ancestral Dragon has reached Ascendant Tier. Although she was the tenth to do it.
All the people before her were either Class A, B, or even C species. With a lot of humans mixed in.
So she was the first Class S species to reach Ascendant Tier after the Reset.
As for those after her?
Her husband, the Ancient Wyrm, also reached Ascendant Tier as the twelfth user to reach it. And Alexander Frost was the fourteenth user to make it. The kraken Class S species.
The fifteenth user was a Class A species though.
So only three Class S species have made it to Ascendant Tier so far.
What I’m more worried about are the potential enemies amongst the rest of the users who have made it to Ascendant Tier.
I haven’t seen any of them so far, but that could also be because they’re plotting something. Meaning I can’t get complacent.
With that thought in mind, I continue teleporting all over the place for three more months. During which time a few dozen more users reach Ascendant Tier. With me still being about three months away myself.
I can’t even tell who they are anymore except for the Class S species. Simply because the Class S species have a channel for all of them to speak in and keep in contact.
The only reason I could tell the first ten users to reach Ascendant Tier, along with some of the others, is because of the leaderboards. Since they skipped past me and the other Class S species after reaching Ascendant Tier themselves.
And to make matters worse, the Ascendant Tier users are all still leveling up. Which makes sense.
They aren’t just going to stop after reaching Ascendant Tier.
One silver lining about this though is that I was right about the werewolf going after the dragons. Since he’s already declared war against the thunder dragons.
It’s a completely different subspecies of dragon than Ethan and his family though, so we’re unrelated entirely.
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
Of course, even if it was Ethan’s family, it wouldn’t likely affect me. Since the werewolves are very obsessed with blood ties.
They don’t care about someone like my sister who just happens to be in a relationship with a dragon. They’d just ignore her so long as she didn’t attack.
Werewolves also tend to go after the stronger foes first. So they’d target Ethan’s parents before him even if they were his targets.
Which they aren’t.
So I can put thoughts of him aside for now at least.
But the other Ascendants? I do need to worry about them.
As if I wasn’t already stressed out enough, I sense another explosion of energy from another person ascending to Ascendant Tier.
From what I remember, there were around ten thousand Ascendants in the universe before the System Reset. But that was in a universe where people didn’t know how to become Ascendants at first.
After all, it took a different requirement for it, and the System didn’t directly explain it then.
Whereas now all it takes is ten Authority Shards. With the System directly stating it.
That said, I’m really glad that I managed to get that last Authority Shard over the past few years. Even if it took a while.
Because Authority Shards are becoming rarer and rarer ever since people learned that it was the requirement to Ascend to Ascendant Tier.
I continue teleporting all over the place for another month before calling Luna back to me. Just to make sure no one targets her to get to me.
Especially since another dozen users reach Ascendant Tier in this time. With the early Ascendants already reaching level 2510 and above.
What worries me the most though is the news I receive from Astrid.
That there are people snooping around The Retreat asking about my whereabouts.
And to make matters worse, I feel some failed attempts to divine my location as well.
I grit my teeth at the obvious signs of enemies targeting me. But so far no one has found me yet.
At some point I even hide in the Quantum Realm to continue my teleporting. Even if I know that’ll only delay things.
Ascendants can enter the Quantum Realm after all.
Assuming they have a user with a quantum affinity.
The only problem about entering the Quantum Realm is that I can’t tell when more users reach Ascendant Tier. Nor can I tell what direction they’re in. Since the Quantum Realm is sealed off from the mortal realm.
But regardless of that all, I continue teleporting. And teleporting.
And teleporting some more.
As much as I can. To the point that I can barely even see where I end up before teleporting again.
And thanks to being in the Quantum Realm and in my True Form, I don’t have to worry about energy at all.
I just continue teleporting nonstop.
Endlessly.
While I teleport though, I can’t help but notice quite a few gazes locked onto me. Both from Quantum Beings that are watching me, and from unknown gazes.
Gazes that I can’t help but assume are from users with ill intentions.
Just like that, I continue to teleport for another month. With the EXP on my Quantum Displacement skill being just a few percentage points away from finally reaching level 50. At which point I’ll be able to upgrade it into an Ascendant Tier skill before entering the Dimension Dungeon.
I would enter the dungeon now and just finish leveling the skill in there, but the monster in there is most likely too powerful for me to beat without the Ascendant Tier skill. And I learned at some point that there’s a limit on the number of times I can summon and dismiss the Dimension Dungeon in a specific time period.
As it turns out, the dungeon can only be summoned or dismissed twice every month after the first time. And if I tried to just summon it and leave it without dismissing it to save up one use, the people targeting me would just enter the dungeon and continue chasing me there.
They may even steal the kill that I need to complete my last requirement.
So if I want to go in and fight the boss, I have to be certain that I am absolutely ready to do so.
And since you cannot Ascend a skill inside of a dungeon, even though you yourself can Ascend inside of a dungeon, that means I have to Ascend the skill outside of the dungeon before going inside.
All because users can’t use Authority Shards in dungeons anymore. Which was a change made by the System more recently that Zal told me about.
I grit my teeth at the thought of the System.
The damn thing is making things harder on me.
But I don’t stop teleporting even as these thoughts run wild through my mind.
