Chapter 51. Police

After they tried out their new Skills, something that left Emilio completely satisfied, they finally decided on their new training schedule. Given that it already was Monday, it was going to be only for a few days. But either way, they had to define what to prioritize.

The teachers finally decided to go with a priority in developing their fighting technique.

They decided to use two hours a day for technique training in hand to hand combat. For Emilio it was two more for training with the daggers daggers while Amelia was going to go for the shooting range.

Emilio also had two hours a day for active combat training, but with a particular note. He was not allowed to hit Gabriela back. He could only defend as it could damage her badly with his Body.

Inside those two hours he would also fight with Amelia, but in those fights she was the one who couldn’t hit him back. After all she had 13 points in Body.

Amelia would also fight with Rafael in between. But her Vitality was limited, so she couldn’t train intensely for long.

Each of them would also dedicate two hours to the training dummy, where they could actually focus on technique without destroying anything. Emilio was still not allowed to use his daggers. He might not be able to damage the dummy, but he could still hurt himself. Luckily, the metal replicas were scheduled to arrive in the afternoon as he was not sure the wooden ones would withstand his strength.

Lastly, Amelia was not going to go to the shooting range for two hours, but just one. Leaving her one hour to train with her Energy control. She would be mainly guided by Rafael for the moment because he had all week, but in the future they might explore it together. After all, he was no real expert in the subject.

As they were about to start training, they were interrupted by the doorbell. Emilio went to open the door. After all, they were expecting a TV delivery from Milagros.

When he opened the door he was surprised to find a police officer who had been called to check on the disturbances.

Yeah, we should have been expecting this, didn’t we? Though Mili said she was going to take care of this.

The uniformed man at the door was clearly uncomfortable being the one who had to attend the call.

“Hello, my name is Hector Pederna. I’m sorry to bother you. We were notified by the higher ups in KimTec that you were doing some testing on System stuff, but we kept receiving calls about shootings and explosions, so we decided that we need to check that everyone is ok and nothing else is happening.”

“Oh, don’t worry. Come inside, I know we made quite a mess and the neighbours should have heard the noise. My name is Emilio, by the way.”

The policeman sighed in relief when he realized that the man he was facing seemed approachable. KimTec was a giant, especially after they managed to get System information, but they were still the police and could not ignore several calls about gunshots and explosions.

Either way, going to check the place signaled by the higher ups in KimTec was a hot potato that no one wanted to take so they left it up to their luck and Hector took the short stick.

If Emilio was uncooperative, he didn’t know what he was going to do, but maybe it was not that bad to be sent there if the people in the gym helped him out with the job. He just had to do a quick check up and see that everything was normal.

Well, that was his idea until he entered the gym and saw the burnt circle in the ground around the dummy.

Of course something weird is going on, the policeman sighed. “Can someone explain to me what is going on?”

“Is this for public record? Some of the things are confidential, and others will be told in a public broadcast.” Emilio answered.

“Is there another broadcast scheduled? I didn’t know.”

“Not yet, but there will be soon.”

“So you really are executives of KimTec. Not many people would know things like that in advance.”

“Yes, and the tests that we are doing here are confidential.”

“Let me check if I can keep it confidential,” The policeman said and called someone to ask for permission. After a short talk he was back with Emilio. “I was allowed to keep this between us, but I do have to check what you do to verify you are not a risk to yourselves or other people. I can also see blood on the floor, so there should be someone wounded for sure.”

“About that, it might be different from what you think. Let me ask for permission on my part too.” Emilio called Milagoros and got his approval, but only after she checked with the police station first. With this approval, the policeman was about to have a full worldview change.

“Firstly, let's focus on the blood so you can verify no one is hurt,” Emilio said as he picked his dagger and activated his Pain Reduction Skill. “Please don’t be scared, I have a Skill to heal.” The last thing he needed was having the police shooting him, even if it did no actual damage to him.

After the warning, he made a shallow cut in his arm that he was able to heal in a few minutes. The policeman watched the whole process quite fascinated by what the top people in KimTec could do. “That is remarkable, can you also heal other people?”

“No, the skill has to do with regeneration. But now that you mention it, as long as I understand what is happening well enough I can try to heal others,” Emilio deduced. Tuor had mentioned that he could learn from the Skills, so why not try?

“That is a good idea to try,” Rafael agreed. “If you can freely control your Vitality, you should be able to get something. If anyone else gets hurt we can try it out.”

“Sure, but let’s hope it won't happen.”

“Why don’t you find someone who already has a wound?” Hector asked, “You can try it out and be sure if you can.”

“That is also a good idea. I will tell Mili, she will find someone to try with the right clearance to not spread the Skill information,” Gabriela said.

“It is good to know I am helping you and that the blood on the floor was not because someone is hurt, but you still didn’t show me what the shooting was about,” Hector pushed the issue.

“Do you see that dummy over there? It was bought in the Trial because we needed something we could actually train with. We found out that it's kind of indestructible and we were trying out its resistance,” Gabriela answered.

  “With gunshots?” Hector asked.

“Yes, you have no idea what that thing can whistand,” Gabriela answered.

“Neither do we actually. We were not able to make a scratch on it,” Amelia added.

“I will have to test that. Can I shoot it to verify the claims,” Hector asked.

  “Be our guest.”

After another clearance call to verify he was allowed to shoot inside to verify what the people at KimTec were testing, he was allowed to do it, even though it was kind of confusing for his boss. He could not understand what was happening at all, but the instructions on confidentiality were from the higher ups.

Given how cryptic Hector was, he was beginning to think it was best for him to go and see what was happening, but the higher ups had been clear that only one person could get the information to avoid leaks.

With his clearance given, Hector took the shot and couldn't believe how it did nothing to the dummy. It seemed like plain wood, but it worked better than any bulletproof material he had ever seen.

“Can we get some of this material to make bulletproof vests?” he asked.

“Sure, you can buy it after the Trial if you want. But I don’t recommend it, not only is it a waste, but bulletproof would mean nothing in a few months,” Emilio explained.

  “What do you mean?”

“I am kind of bulletproof with the Stats upgrades I have.”

  “Are you kidding me?”

  “No, we tested it.”

While Hector was trying to understand that testing it meant that someone had actually shot the guy and was deciding if he had to arrest someone, Gabriela decided to take the chance to ask for something she had been thinking about.

“Going onto this subject, and now that we are cleared, can we start shooting regularly here? It would be good for the training.”

“What training? Why would you need to keep shooting?” Hector asked, even more confused than before.

“Because he is bulletproof and it would be good for Amelia to use a gun in combat.”

“Are you planning to shoot a person for training?” Hector was completely horrified at that point and was starting to tilt in the way of arresting them even if the higher ups didn’t want to have anything to do with them.

“Well we already tested it, and he can withstand a regular bullet quite well,” Gabriela continued.

“It is the second time you said this, did you really shoot him? Are you all crazy?”

“As you’ve seen he can heal, so the worst case scenario was him taking some time to heal. We shoot him in the arm just in case, and as you’ve seen he is fine. Do you want to try it?”

Hector was completely shocked. After a few moments, he decided he had to check the facts before making a decision. He had to see to believe. In the worst case scenario the man had proven he can heal. In the end, he decided to shoot Emilio in the arm.

He was completely afraid of the consequences of what he was doing, but he had to remember that the man had already healed himself after being wound with the dagger. He took a deep breath and made sure he was pointing at his arm.

He took the shot and prepared for the shout, but there was no shout. Actually there was no wound at all. Emilio was completely fine, with only a bruise that was already starting to heal.

“I can’t believe it. Our weapons will really become useless,” Hector sighed, with an empty look in his eyes.

“That part was communicated in the previous broadcast, wasn’t it?” Rafael asked.

“It was, but one thing is a theory and another one is watching it happen.”

“So, about the shooting clearance?” Gabriela asked.

“I will ask the higher ups, but even if they approve it, you would have to make the walls bulletproof and it won’t be cheap or easy.”

“Another expense for KimTec I guess,” Emilio dismissed the issue.

“I will let Milagros know,” Gabriela agreed.

“Is it that easy for you, will they really do it like that?” Hector kept being surprised by this group of people. They were not just higher ups for sure, but they were something for sure.

“You have no idea on what they would do for these people,” Darío commented.

“Ok, I get it. I will report that you are doing System tests with guns to get your information, but you still didn’t tell me about the explosion. Do you have explosives here? And don’t tell me it didn’t happen as I can see the floor.”

Everyone looked at Amelia, a little bit scared of her.

“Do you really want to see?” Emilio asked.

“Your faces tell me that I might want to say no, but I really have to check it.”

“Then let’s back off a little for the show.”
