Chapter 50. Element Control

The whole room was completely silent. Everyone was staring at the charred ground in the middle of the ground. It took a while for the people in the room to process that a little girl was able to leave that destruction by herself. They knew that she had high Stats, but it was still shocking to witness what that really meant.

“Ami, what did you do?” Victoria asked slowly as managed to understand that her friend could leave anything she wanted burnt to ashes.

“I used the Skill in another way to shoot the gun,” the girl answered, looking at the charred floor. Even she couldn’t believe what she was able to do.

“That is not a gun. It’s a miniature, hidden rocket launcher,” Milagros tried to joke with the result, but after the power display no one laughed.

“Ami, you said you used the Skill in another way. Can you combine this way with what you did on the previous shot?” Emilio asked.

“I can try, but let’s back off a bit more.”

“Don’t you dare,” Gabriela stopped them, “Do not use that again unless it’s necessary. It is a really dangerous Skill. Can you use it in another way to raise its proficiency?”

“I suppose I can. It is called Fire Element Control so it does not have to do with the gun. I just used it with the bullet.”

“If it impacts the Energy as a whole then it might be really versatile,” Rafael, the only one who has been experimenting with World Energy said.

“It transforms the World Energy to Fire Energy that can be used to create fire,” Amelia explained.

“I will arrange for someone to bring several fire extinguishers,” Milagros decided, wishing this kind of Skill to also be a rare one, if it wasn’t the firefighters were going to be completely overworked.

“I understand what you did with the attacks. For the first shot you did an explosion in the barrel, simulating a real bullet. Didn’t you?” Gabriela deduced.

“Yes, I thought it might raise its power. It’s the main reason I chose fire for the Skill.”

  “Wait, chose?” Emilio asked.

“Didn’t we say we would keep the Skills a secret?”

“We did, but we also have to share information that might be relevant about the System. You also know a lot about my Skills.”

“But you shared that with me because you wanted to,” the girl complained.

“And now you want to share about this Skill, don’t you?” Emilio asked, with a little threat in his voice that made Amelia decide that she did want to share the information about her Skill.

“Of course I do,” She lied, calming the beast who was also her uncle. “The Skill is called Element Control and I could choose which element I wanted to control.”

“Given that you chose fire, I guess it is not an element from the periodic table, what are the elements?” Milagros asked.

“Water, Earth, Fire, and Air,” Amelia explained, “I tried to choose Avatar, and it didn't work.”

“Haha, did you really try that?” Victoria laughed.

“Of course, I will not miss another chance! I already have only one gun.”

“Leaving cartoons aside. Does anyone have anything else to report?” Milagros asked. After no one answered she continued, “Then I will be leaving. I have a lot of work to do and everything is urgent.”

“Hmm, Mili? What about the recordings?” Darío asked.

“It is part of the work I have to do.”

“Not that. We also want to watch them!” Victoria complained.

You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.

“Oh, right. I will bring the edited version when you are having dinner. Now, I really have to go. I have another public broadcast to prepare.”

“I didn’t know there was going to be another one,” Amelia said.

“Neither did I,” Milagros admitted. “But I have to share the information you gathered in some way, don’t I?”

“On that subject,” Gabriela interceded, “Can we have a TV here so we don’t have to go somewhere else to watch it?”

“I will send someone to install it. Does anyone need something else?”

“Aren’t you a little overworked?” Alberto asked, “All of this seems like a lot.”

“I can’t say that I am not, but the Mind upgrades help a lot. The Vitality ones too. After understanding how much difference they make in the flesh I can understand how the rest of the Realm might be working so much.”

“You should still rest a little,” Emilio added.

“Of course, when you don’t bring me more catastrophic news to share with the world I will.”

With Milagros gone, the rest of the group decided to start their training once again. but this time Emilio refused to be a target for his niece's shooting.

He was not going to take her bullets after he witnessed what she could do after taking the Energy Trial.

Amelia still wanted to practice with him, but he did not dare to take a gunshot from her. In that argument Emilio realized something. He did not dare to take the Energy bullet, but his Body had been upgraded and it had 7 points. If he added his Vitality and Skills into the equation, maybe he could withstand a real gunshot.

Even if he got hurt, he could heal as long as it was not lethal, didn’t he? Once he had the idea in his head, he knew he had to try it out, but he was not going to let Amelia take the shot.

She was not really experienced and what would happen if she missed the shot and managed to hit him in the head. Instead, Gabriela was the one who took the shot and she pointed to his arm.

Of course, their teacher didn’t miss the shot, but neither did they get the result they expected. Emilio was ready for the sharp pain, the blood and the healing afterwards and the result was either underwhelming or overwhelming. His arm took the direct impact of the bullet and all of what he got was a minor bruise, something that everyone could heal in a few days and Emilio could heal in a few minutes without even focusing.

There was one reality they had to face after the test, one really weird to even think about. Emilio had become bulletproof. Not only him, but it was possible that many people were going to develop their bodies to the same level.

Once they realized that he had resistance to the normal gunshots, the group decided that they could try something else. They could use his body to verify if the System Guns were better than normal guns when the user had a higher Energy Stat.

As tempted as he was to find out that information, Emilio still refused to let Amelia shoot him, but he agreed to let Rafael do it. He had 5 points in Energy and had the trait that made it 10% more effective, making it a decent example to try a gun with higher Energy.

Emilio had to admit that he was quite scared about being the target where they were trying the bullet’s strength, but they had no other option. It was him, or not try it out at all.

Once Emilio stood away from the rest and nodded to his teacher to shoot, Rafael pointed Gabriela’s gun at Emilio with surprising ease given that he was supposed to be specialized in short weapons. He didn’t stop for even a second to aim and shot the bullet at the exact same point where Amelia’s gun had damaged him.

The result was a shallow wound on his arm, one that bled a few drops and Emilio could heal in almost no time. It was definitely better than the normal gun, but it didn’t seem to be by much.

After the test, Amelia actually came to another idea. Why not test the difference between Weapons Qualities? Gabriela’s Gun was a Rank 1 Medium weapon and Amelia’s was already a Rank 2, limited with the gun ability to be used by a Rank 1.

Once again, it was Rafael’s job to shoot and he managed to hit the exact same spot again.

Once the bullet hit, Emilio finally felt the pain that he had expected from a gunshot. The wound in his arm was deep and went all the way to the bone where the bullet was stopped and dissolved into the enviroment.

Given that the target was Emilio, he would easily heal the wound. But, the weapon was a real danger even to someone like him, especially in Amelia’s hand.

Emilio was focusing on healing the wound when he realized he could also try his new Skill. It was finally time to not feel pain anymore!

As soon as he decided to activate it. He couldn’t feel how it worked, but he instantly stopped feeling the pain of an open wound. It still felt like a soft pinch in his arm, but there was no pain at all.

He felt so little pain that Emilio decided to take out one of his daggers and make a cut to his arm to see how much pain he could feel. Once again, all he felt was a soft pinch and that was all.

“I like the Skill,” Emilio smiled, completely forgetting about the people in their surroundings that were looking at him a little bit horrified. Only a little bit, because at that point they didn’t expect anything less from Emilio.

“You do realize that every time you leave the Trial you look even worse to the rest of the world, don’t you?” Gabriela asked, “First it was a training excuse, but now what is your excuse?”

Emilio suddenly realized that everyone was looking at him and just how messed up he looked. He was becoming more abnormal by the day, but who could blame him? If he could heal fast and not feel pain, then the wounds would no longer be a big impediment and become just a Vitality reduction, something he could even recover with his Focus Vitality Skill. “No excuses. I’m just trying my new Skill and I love it.”
