CHAPTER 19 — DIVINE INVESTIGATION
The gods had been watching Paris.
Now they were coming to the mortal world to find him.
The city felt different.
Not visibly.
Not physically.
But Paris could feel the shift in the air.
Something had changed in the way reality held itself together.
The hum beneath the world had grown louder.
Stronger.
Closer.
And the gods had noticed.
Paris stood on the edge of a quiet street, watching people pass by like nothing had changed.
His phone vibrated again.
The divine chat had resumed.
[Goddess of Fate]: Convergence probability increasing.
[Blood Saint]: Structural pressure continues rising.
[Abyssal Observer]: The second anomaly advances toward the variable.

Paris swallowed.
“They keep calling it that.”
Variable.
The name felt heavier every time he saw it.
Another message appeared.
[Thunder Sovereign]: The mortal volume cannot contain simultaneous anomalies.
[Goddess of Fate]: The lattice will destabilize.
Paris frowned.
“Perhaps?”
Another message followed.
Demon Emperor Baal: Or perhaps this was always inevitable.
Paris looked down at the phone.
“That’s not reassuring.”
The chat continued.
[Blood Saint]: The variable remains within the metropolitan region.
[Goddess of Fate]: Location resolution improving.
Paris’s chest tightened.
“They’re still tracking me.”
Another message appeared.
[Thunder Sovereign]: Observation from above is insufficient.
Paris froze.
Insufficient.
Another message followed.
[Thunder Sovereign]: Direct investigation is required.
Paris whispered quietly.
“You’re kidding.”
The next line appeared immediately.
[Goddess of Fate]: Mortal-plane manifestation authorized.
Paris’s heart skipped.
Manifestation.
The gods were coming here.
Not watching.
Not predicting.
Arriving.
Another message appeared.
[Blood Saint]: Deployment approved.
[Abyssal Observer]: The variable will be located.
Paris stepped backward slowly.
“That’s bad.”
Another message appeared.
Paris’s pulse quickened.
He had no idea what a god manifesting in the mortal world looked like.
But he was fairly sure it wouldn’t be subtle.
The chat continued.
[Thunder Sovereign]: Prepare the descent.
[Goddess of Fate]: Causal anchors aligning.
Paris felt the air grow heavier.
Not like the storm earlier.
Different.
Focused.
As if something far above the sky was shifting its attention toward the planet.
His phone buzzed again.
[Abyssal Observer]: The second anomaly continues approaching.
Paris rubbed his temples.
“So I’ve got gods coming from above…”
He looked down at the ground.
“…and something else coming from below.”
Not ideal.
Another message appeared.
[Blood Saint]: The variable remains the convergence point.
[Goddess of Fate]: All paths intersect there.
Paris stared at the screen.
Convergence.
Everything was moving toward him.
The gods.
The remnant beneath the lattice.
The Architect itself.
Another message appeared.
Demon Emperor Baal: This will be interesting.
Paris exhaled slowly.
“That’s one word for it.”
The chat fell silent again.
But the city did not feel calm.
The sky darkened slightly.
Not with storm clouds.
With something else.
Paris looked upward.
And for the first time—
He saw it.
High above the atmosphere—
A thin streak of golden light descending toward the planet.
His phone buzzed one last time.
[Thunder Sovereign]: Descent initiated.
Paris whispered quietly.
“Oh.”
The golden streak grew brighter.
Closer.
Faster.
Because the gods had stopped watching from the sky.
They were coming down to meet him.
What do you think the gods will do next?
