Sarah and William sat patiently in the doctor’s office. A few months had passed since Sarah found out she was pregnant, and she and William were anxious to find out the sex of their child.
Dr. Pitt slithered into the office. He was a giant rattlesnake who wore a white doctor's coat and a pair of metallic headphones so that he could hear. He curled up on the chair behind his desk.
“So, what’s the news?” Sarah asked. “Am I having a boy or a girl?”
Dr. Pitt used his tail to flip through the paperwork on his desk. “I have run all of the tests, and I can gdly tell you that your child is a boy.”
Sarah and William turned their heads to look at each other. Their eyes were wide, and they had huge smiles on their faces. They both hugged each other with excitement.
“We’re having a son!” William shouted.
“Congratutions.” Dr. Pitt said with a smile.
Sarah immediately took out her phone so that she could call her friends and tell them that she was having a boy. William did the same thing to tell his family and friends. They both decided against having a reveal party because they both thought those were tacky.
As soon as they got back to their apartment, Sarah and William sat down and started making their own lists of names for the baby.
“So, what have you got?” William asked.
Sarah looked at her list. “I’ve got Shaun, Steve, Mark, Kurt, Peter, and Owen.”
William thought for a moment. “Owen. That sounds interesting.”
Sarah smiled. “Yeah, it was the name of my uncle. He was really the only one in my family who encouraged me to follow my dreams. Sadly, he died of cancer while I was in high school.”
“I am so sorry.” William said as he reached out and held Sarah’s hand.
Sarah wiped a tear from her eye. “It’s okay. I know that he would be proud of me. Now, what names do you have?”
William read off his list. “Bray, Eric, Luke, Scott, Leon, and Stan.”
“Bray sounds really good.”
“It’s the name of a friend I had when I was in the first grade. We lost contact because my family moved around so much, but he was a really fun guy.”
“Alright, so we have it narrowed down to Owen and Bray.”
“Why not both? Owen can be his first name, and Bray can be his middle name?”
“Hmm, Owen Bray WhiteFang. I like the sound of that.”
William lowered his and talked into Sarah’s belly. “You hear that, you have a name!”
Sarah chuckled. “I’m sure Owen will love it. William, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about something.”
William sat back up. “Yeah?”
“Living in this apartment has been great, but now that we have a baby on the way I think we should move into a house.”
“You want to leave the city for the suburbs?”
“Yes. This apartment isn’t really suited for raising children.”
“You’re right. Moving to a house in the suburbs will be better for Owen. He’ll get to py with other kids and have a lot more room to grow.”
Sarah cpped her hands together. “Great! I just want our son to have the best life possible.”
William smiled. “He has you as his mother. He already has the best life possible.”
Sarah crossed her arms and smirked. “You’re being sappy again.”
“And you love it.” William and Sarah then kissed.
In the months that followed, Sarah and William both got ready for the arrival of their child. Sarah kept in physical shape by exercising and eating healthy. She may have been pregnant, but she did not want to become fat with baby weight.
William made sure that they had all of the right baby supplies, including diapers, a crip, pypen, toys, clothes, feeding chair, and more. William and Sarah also looked for a house in the suburbs.
Sarah returned home one day right after her workout. Dr. Pitt had informed her that she was due any day now, but Sarah did not want to just y around and wait. She wanted to stay active.
“How was your workout?” William asked once Sarah was home.
“It went great. A lot of fans congratuted me on the pregnancy, and some even asked if I would ever return to The Warriors.”
“And what did you tell them?”
“I said that I’ll be ready in time. They didn’t mind though, the team is in good hands with Lisa.”
“She is just as hard of a worker as you are.” William then walked over to Sarah and pced his hands on her belly, which was huge. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I swallowed a pumpkin!” Sarah said with a chuckle. Sarah and William then both felt the baby kick.
“Hey there little guy. Your mommy and I can’t wait to meet you.” William said into Sarah’s belly.
That night both Sarah and William were sound asleep. Suddenly, Sarah woke up and sat straight up. She then started shaking William awake.
“William, wake up!”
William barely opened his eyes. “Mmm…yeah?”
“My water broke!” Sarah yelled. “The baby is coming!”
William’s eyes then shot open and became as wide as dinner ptes. He instantly jumped out of bed and got dressed. William also grabbed a pair of suitcases that held clothes for Sarah and himself should they need to be at the hospital for a while.
Sarah got dressed quickly with the help of William. She also put a towel between her legs to soak up the fluid. Fortunately, Sarah had been doing meditation and yoga along with special exercises to control the pain and keep the baby from coming before she was at the hospital.
Sarah and William took the fastest elevator that their building had to get to the bottom floor. A call up car service was waiting for them. William wanted to drive, but Sarah knew that he would drive like mad and she was not in the mood to pay for a thousand traffic tickets.
Once at the hospital, Sarah was put in a wheelchair and rushed to the delivery room. William wanted to be by Sarah’s side, he was suited up and allowed in. He sat next to Sarah and held her hand as she delivered their baby.
“Breath Miss FoxTail, you’re doing great.” The doctor said.
Sarah was breathing heavily sweating buckets. She was in major pain. Sarah felt like she was taking the biggest shit in her life. She held William’s hand so tightly that she almost broke it.
“Mr. WhiteFang, how are you?” One of the nurses asked.
“MmmHmm.” Was all William could say. He was seeing things that were hard to describe.
At that moment, the doctor’s phone rang. Sarah looked right at him and waved her hand.
“Oh no, that’s okay. You go ahead and answer that.”
The comment made everyone briefly chuckle. The doctor then turned off his phone.
“Just one more push, Miss FoxTail.” The doctor said. Sarah pushed with all of her might for what felt like an eternity. Finally, a loud crying could be heard.
The doctor cut the umbilical cord and the nurses wiped the baby down. They then wrapped the child up in a bnket and him to Sarah.
“Congratutions. It’s a healthy baby boy.” The doctor said.
Sarah was beyond exhausted, but she still held her baby close. Sarah and William both looked at their baby.
He was a mix of Sarah and William. He was mostly wolf, with white fur and blue eyes. He also had fox ears and a fox tail.
Sarah smiled and looked over at William. “Say hello to your son.”
William reached out and held his child’s tiny paw. “He’s perfect.” William said with a smile as tears of joy streamed down his face.
After a day of much needed rest, William walked into the hospital room where Sarah was sleeping. Right next to her was Owen bundled up in a crib. William walked over and gently picked up Owen, being careful not to wake up Sarah. He then sat down in a chair by the window, and looked at Owen in the sunlight.
“Hello Owen, I’m your dad. That beautiful woman asleep over there is your mom. We have both been waiting a long time to meet you. I want to welcome you to the world. It’s a big pce full of many, wonderful things. And you are going to see and experience them all. You are now on a road called life. I’m going to be honest with you, life is not always easy. There are many ups and downs. But you have your mom’s strength, so I know that you are ready to face any obstacle.”
“You will live a life full of love, fun, excitement, and adventure. It will be a ride that will be non-stop, you’ll be ready for it. I love you, your mom loves you, and your entire family loves you. I know all of that sounded sappy, and trust me I know did. Your mom can confirm this as a fact.”
“You bet I can.” William looked up to see that Sarah had woken up and was smiling at him.
Owen then became fussy. “It’s mommy time now.” Sarah said. She stretched out her arms and William gently handed him over to her. Sarah then lowered her medical gown and breast fed Owen.
There was a knock at the door. Sarah and William looked over to see William’s family standing in the doorway.
“We’re sorry. We didn’t know it was feeding time.” Victoria said when she noticed Sarah breastfeeding Owen.
Sarah and William both ughed. “Don’t worry about it.” Sarah said reassuringly.
William rubbed Owen’s back. “Everyone, I want you to meet Owen Bray Whitefang.”
Victoria sat next to Sarah so that she could get a better look. “Aww, he’s adorable!”
Norman and William hugged each other. “I’m proud of you, son.”
“Thank you, dad.”
Owen stopped feeding and Sarah patted him on the back to burp him. Owen let out a loud belch.
“He’s loud.” Lisa said. This made all of the adults burst out ughing.
“So is this the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning?” Norman asked.
Sarah and William looked at each other before looking back at everyone else.
“Let’s just say it's the next step.” Sarah said.
