Chapter 169: Chasing Mastery VI

  Of course, the genjutsu Shiki learned all had their reason for being chosen, namely, even if the jutsu itself was worthless to the boy, he considered some aspect of it useful.

  Amongst those he learned, only Bringer of Darkness was considered by him as worthy of direct combat use.

  As for the others, they were either learnt as a foundation for an evolved version of themselves or as a way to gain experience in specific applications of genjutsu.

  Starting with the tter case:

  Genjutsu: Mist Servant was learned as, functionally, it could be considered as a very crappy version of Shiki and Inori’s Twin Illusion: Meikyo Shisui, Kyoka Suigetsu.

  Both jutsu created illusory copies of the user while the original hid, the Twin Illusion merely had countless more functionalities while being nearly impossible to break using standard methods, though at the cost of leaving its user far more vulnerable.

  Still, the boy wished to ascertain if learning this basic version could provide him some inspiration for improving upon the original but so far, it was a complete failure on that front;

  Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing was chosen for its nature of probing into targets’ subconscious and automatically shifting its nature in response, this was a concept Shiki found most interesting and worthy of further study.;

  Genjutsu: Sly Mind Affect was picked due to its incredibly wide range and subtlety of lightly affecting their target’s mind to scramble their sense of direction without alerting them in any way, those two particur characteristics were what caught the boy’s eye;

  Finally, Konoha Style: Willow was considered valuable for its dynamic nature, the ability to adapt to its user’s movements and simuting illusions of possible attacks they could deliver;

  Then there were the genjutsu learned with the intention of developing superior versions:

  Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings, a C rank jutsu, became the basis for Demonic Illusion: Mirror World, an A rank jutsu that, instead of just yering illusion over the real world, created a highly detailed false world over the real one.

  Shiki even took the subtle influence of Sly Mind Affect and the ability to tap into targets’ subconscious from Hell View in order to make sure that the illusion was nearly undetectable.

  Mirror World was not only extremely stealthy in the way it affected the minds of its targets, it could take scenarios that they subconsciously wished would happen or wanted to avoid and add them onto the illusory world under the user’s discretion.

  The dynamic illusions that could rapidly shift based on actions, the hallmark of Konoha Style: Willow, was also taken advantage of in order to add to the realism of the illusory world.

  As for its range, it could be a small area around the user for highly adaptable illusions as well as smooth misdirection during intense combat or over an extremely wide area for a rge scale set up before a battle even took pce.

  With this Mirror World could effectively repce all the genjutsu that led to its formation;

  Genjutsu: Temple of Nirvana, an A rank jutsu was still in the process of evolution as Shiki’s intent would result in a S rank genjutsu of unquestionable might and that took a lot more work to develop, especially since the boy was not yet quite as skilled in genjutsu as he was in ninjutsu.

  But while only thirty clones were assigned purely to genjutsu, a total of seventy were assigned to Yin Release ninjutsu.

  For this, there were two obvious sources of inspiration, the Yamanaka’s Hidden Jutsu and the Nara’s Hidden Jutsu, all their mind affecting and shadow based ninjutsu fell into the category of Yin Release.

  This resulted in the creation of two unique original jutsu based on these two different styles of Yin Release.

  One of them was based on his Yamanaka sensei, Inori, who Shiki considered to have not only extreme mastery over her cn jutsu but also the skill and inspiration required to evolve it further.

  The Violet Rose was a phenomenal maniputor, she could read and influence people quite easily, her natural beauty was simply one of her many advantages in this regard. It was part of what made her a great spy and infiltrator.

  A crossing of the eyes, a longing look, a soft touch, the melody of her velvety voice, her inviting scent, every one of these could be used as a trigger for genjutsu or even some of her unique cn jutsu.

  It was not any particur technique or jutsu, it was an innate ability refined into a consummate skill through an inordinate amount of experience.

  Shiki’s goal was to develop a Yin Release jutsu that could reliably influence others in the same way Inori could with her own innate charm and experience.

  And in this endeavour, he was successful, his efforts resulting in the Nirvana Art: Emanation of Ecstasy.

  From the pretentious name, one could tell how satisfied the boy was with his creation.

  Once activated, Emanation of Ecstasy would remain passively in effect until Shiki deactivated it himself.

  In this passive state, it turned his whole body into a source of spiritual influence. His looks, touches, scent, the sound of his voice, all of it had amplified effects on others. It was not the creation of an illusory sensation but an amplification of what was already there.

  Shiki was good looking, his voice was naturally pleasant in terms of sound and he knew how to use touch for pain and pleasure (Not that kind! He’s a kid!). The passive form of Emanation of Ecstasy merely intensified any sensation he could naturally create.

  However, with a quick and subtle fre of chakra, the jutsu could be turned into an active state, casting a much stronger influence over its targets in a combination of Yin Release ninjutsu as well as genjutsu.

  As for the Nara’s shadow manipution, Shiki compiled their most useful jutsu, which he had managed to sensorily analyze, into a single one with three variations.

  This was possible due to the various kinds of shadow jutsu being very functionally simir, they were only split into many smaller jutsu to make them easier to learn and use with each having their own hand seal(s).

  However, Shiki’s chakra control and deep grasp of the nature of their jutsu with his extreme sensory techniques, made a lot of this unnecessary.

  One jutsu he could activate with a simple two seal sequence, even using one handed seals, with an additional seal for each variation.

  The boy weaved the first two seals and then the one associated with the variation he wanted. If he then wished to switch to a different variation while the jutsu was already active, he merely needed to weave their assigned seal without needing to repeat the first two.

  Shiki called this jutsu the Nirvana Art: Underworld Shadow and it had a few differences from the Nara’s techniques.

  Firstly, the boy could secret as much shadow as he wanted so long as there was enough chakra, he was not limited by the size of his own shadow like the Nara were until the Boruto Era.

  And secondly, his shadows, as spiritual constructs of Yin Release, could be given the ability to drain physical energy from its targets, giving another yer of immobilization and neutralization ability of targets without injury.

  As for its three variations, they were as follows:

  Nirvana Art: Underworld Shadow - Trap, which created a field of shadow across surfaces, all targets in contact would immediately be covered in countless immaterial tendrils of shadow that would restrict their movements;

  Nirvana Art: Underworld Shadow - Bloom, which materialized the shadows for physical attacks creating various shapes stronger than metal to grab, crush and peirce targets or even block enemy attacks;

  Nirvana Art: Underworld Shadow - Doppel, which was the most interesting, created shadow silhouettes, copies of either himself or someone under the influence of his shadow.

  While only capable of taijutsu, the copies were immortal and their forms were malleable like Shiki’s materialized shadows though they required him to remain fully conscious to exist and cannot maintain their existence or be created in complete darkness.

  And so, only Shiki’s efforts with Yang Release remained to be documented.
