Chapter 12: The Acid rain

Borgis walked at the front with an orb of light cast in front of him. The road ahead of them was as dark as the starless night sky. Even so, the group marched on with the sense that nothing can stop them, but they all knew they were in a race against the four men that pushed them into the long road of the crypt.

"All hope was gone," Borgis sang in a heavy tune.

"All hope was gone," The group repeated, some being offkey.

"And the monsters close," Borgis sang in a very deep tone,

"And the monsters close," they repeated awfully.

"But the great Thors came," he sang.

"But the great Thors came," they repeated.

  "And he saved the day,"

  "And he saved the day!"

"He swung his ax-" Borgis stopped singing as he stopped the group. An entrance to dark room emerged itself with sounds of wheezing and rain coming from it. "Do you hear that?"

Ari gestured at the floating orb of light, moving it further ahead towards the door. The wheezing echoed throughout the chamber as it grew louder and louder.

"What that horrible smell?" Azeri closed her nose, disgusted.

"What is that!" Radich muttered loudly and pointed at the bottom of the entrance.

"Ugh," let out Azeri as she and most of the group's face contorted in disgust. A slug-like creature that is as big as an adult crawled with misshapen limp, leaving a trail of slime, or maybe something worse. The creature wheezed as it looked around the room with its small marble eyes. Its eyes locked on the group as it screeched and ran in all fours but was not fast.

"Kill it!" Ari screamed, hiding deeper within the group.

Izik grabbed his dagger and imbued it with fire, throwing it at the head of the man-slug.

"Ma-m-m-a…" it wheezed, looking almost as if it was crying while the dagger sizzled on its head. It dropped in front of them, motionless as the group gathered around it.

"It doesn't look like the other ones…" Ari said, barely coming close to the man-slug.

"It doesn't look as strong as the first one." Pin said. "It also doesn't regenerate.

Izik pulled out the dagger from its head as yellowish blood spurted out of the spot. "There could be more ahead, so let's be careful."

"Yeah," Azeri said while still closing her nose. "We should keep going.

They entered the rook as the orb grew brighter, revealing a large room with small holes on the ground and green-colored rain poured in the room, The ground seemed of a different material than the rest of the crypt as a sizable piece of juniper green gem was covered in thick glass in the middle of the giant room. Dark borrowed holes filled the sides of the walls

"Hmm," Borgis created a rock in his arm and threw it in the middle. The rain trickled on it as it sizzled slowly, dissolving in a matter of minutes.

  "It's acidic," Izik remarked.

"We can see that," Radich said in a panicked voice.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

"How can we get through this?" Azeri wondered, looking around.

"It is simple." Borgis said calmly. "I will create a cover made of steel and hold it as we pass through this rain. I will need a strong man to help me carry it, since it will be large enough for all of us."

"I can do that," Pin answered rather quickly.

"Sounds good." Izik clasped his hands together.

Borgis created a thick and large plate of steel with a small slope on each side, enough to cover the entire group. "Whenever you are ready, Pin," he held one end of the plate.

Pin nodded and grabbed the other end of the plate. They lifted the plate and got under it. There were handles created for easier grab as the group clumped together between the two large men, and they started walking slowly. There was not much room to be comfortable, but no one could complain under the circumstances.

The rain trickled down on the steel as low sizzling sound came from atop of them.

"This isn't scary at all," Radich chuckled, obviously scared.

"Do not worry, young Radich," Borgis said. "The plate should hold until we get through this room."

"I feel like something's watching us…" Izik said quietly as he surveyed the place. "Those holes on the walls feel eerie."

"I can look through that," Ari gestured at the orb of light as it floated near the walls. As it got close to one of the holes, a set of marble eyes shone inside the darkness of the hole.

"Wait…" Azeri gasped as she let go of her nose. "They're in the walls!"

A screech echoed the room as the slug creature crawled out of the hole. Another screech followed, and another. In a matter of few moments slug creatures started emerging out of the many holes on the walls. The acidic rain did not affect their slimy flesh, which made the group even more terrified.

"We have to go faster!" Radich screamed in terror and Ari screamed in agreement.

Borgis and Pin huffed as they walked faster, but not by an incredible amount.

The first man-slug came close but was taken down by a bolt of fire to its head launched by Izik. "Azeri, you handle the other side!" He screamed.

"You don’t have to tell me that!" She replied loudly as she created a spike of ice and pierced one of human slugs with it.

More and more creatures ran towards them as they made it halfway through the room. Azeri and Izik managed to keep the creatures from getting close to them, but their numbers kept growing.

"Not much left!" Borgis yelled. "Don’t let them get to us!"

They kept walking fast as they shot at the creatures, but they were slowly getting closer by sheer numbers.

"Damn it!" Azeri slammed her foot to the ground as ice spikes erected from the ground, stabbing the human slugs.

Izik created large balls of fire and threw it on the slugs, exploding on impact.

"Aah!" Radich shrieked in horror as one of reached them, He kicked it on the head, nocking it back as his boot sizzled a bit. The slime made the acid slide off the slug, so there was not much to melt the boot. Still, Radich flailed his leg with each step fearing it would corrode entirely.

"Almost there!" Borgis yelled as he hardened his leg with rock and kicked it. The plate swayed heavily with his movement.

"Be careful, Mr. Bullhardt!" Pin said, three slugs crawling behind him.

They reached near the end, an entrance to another dark room. The creatures closed in on them from all sides. Borgis and Pin screamed as they ran the final distance with the rest.

"Quickly! Get in!" Borgis held the plate on the door, as they entered one by one. Pin was the last and held the top as he ran inside, but one of the slugs grabbed his legs, causing him to trip.

"Pin!" Borgis yelled, followed by the others. He held the plate by himself and could not help Pin.

The human slug screeched as it tried to drag Pin out, the acidic rain touched a part of his boot. He screamed as the boot sizzled with every drop making contact corroding it away. He used his other leg to kick himself free from the clutches of the creature and then crawled hurriedly into the entrance as Borgis followed him. He then created bars of steal on the entrance, locking the creatures out of the room.

Pin screamed and gritted his teeth as he removed the boot from his foot. His toes were red as if it were burned and some of the skin was peeled off.

"Pin!" Ari ran to him, her hand engulfed in green aura. His skin returned, but not completely. "I can't heal all of it." She said with shaken voice.

Pin smiled through the pain with a heavy breath. "It's okay. You've done enough, Ari."

She still felt she did not do enough.

"Are you okay, Pin?" Radich ran to him, so did Izik and Azeri.

" am sorry I could not do anything back there..." Borgis said, angry at himself.

"We wouldn't made through the room without you, Mr. Bullhardt," Pin said as he tried to control his breaths.

"We can take it slow for now." Azeri said, worry drawn on her face.

"I'm fine, really." Pin said, walking with a small limp.

"Let me help you, Pin." Radich put Pin's arm around him.

"Thank you," Pin said with a smile and sweat on his brow.

"It is the least I can do." he nodded.

"Let's move." Pin said with forced stemness.
