  Chapter - 20.3

  "Excuse me..."

Soon Alex was surrounded by students wanting to introduce themselves. Suddenly, Alex was no longer the bad guy everyone was scared of. With so much wealth at his disposal, he was no less than a young master from a noble family. And only after he was surrounded did Alex realise that Alex went a bit overboard. He should have waited a little longer to collect his reward.

So now Alex was made to remember some names and the families they belonged to... It was what they call making connections. That for someone like Alex, who believed in his own strength, was useless. Finally, it took some time for Alex to break away from the crowd and get back to his sister and the two girls.

"Now you even have a fan following," Daphne teased Alex, "So much for staying away from the limelight."

"Well, someone else is not that happy," Nicole said as she pointed behind Alex with her eyes. When they looked back, it was Harry and Ron gring in their direction. It was the second time that Harry did something mindblowing, but someone else took the spotlight. Earlier it was Professor Snape, and now Alex.

"Poor guy... Really has some bad luck..." Daphne commented.

"I am sure his fan club will be burning some midnight oil today..." Hermione didn't care much.

"But how did you know that Potter would catch the snitch? Or he will hang on to the broom till the very end?" Nicole asked curiously, "You could have told us, you know..."

"I did not know..." Alex denied it right away.

"Then why did you..." Nicole asked suspiciously.

"As I said earlier, it was all a gamble," Alex said, and it didn't look like he was hiding anything.

And Alex may have stolen the limelight, but many other students earned huge returns on their gambles today. The only issue was that their bet was nowhere near the amount Alex pced. Only those from Slytherin pced bets in hundreds of Galleons. But maybe their ego got the better of them. Most of the bets by the Slytherins were on Harry being knocked out within ten minutes. The odds were a double-edged sword for the gambling houses as well... It was something even they gambled upon.

All in all, it was a once-in-a-while opportunity, and Alex was lucky enough to make the best of it.

"So you bet close to three thousand galleons on luck?" Hermione asked with her mouth wide open in surprise.

"I made more than fifteen thousand... So it's all good..."

"You sure are courageous," Daphne did not know what to say anymore, "You got lucky this time... But it won't be like this always," Daphne advised. Though it was easy money, it was all luck. And one could never be sure that luck will be on their side every time.

"Well... Let's leave it at that. All's well that end's well. Ain't that right?" Since there was no end to the lecture, Nicole finally intervened, bringing the conversation to an end.

"... I am hungry... Let's go have lunch... They must still be serving in the Great Hall," Nicole suggested.

"True... Even I am feeling a bit hungry. But who's going to lift this heavy bag?" Hermione said, pointing towards the heavy bag filled with thousands of galleons.

"It will be the owner who else," Daphne smirked, "But if he is willing to pay us compensation for our service, I might think about helping him."

"Why would I ask for your help?" Alex looked at Daphne weirdly and, under the gaze of the three of them, took out a small pouch. Alex then waved his arm, and the mouth of the pouch grew wider as, in one fell swoop, it gulped the bag full of coins.

"You had something like this?" Daphne felt her cheeks burning. She did not really mean to get something from Alex, but he took it literally.

"Let's go," Alex put the pouch in his robes and walked ahead towards the Great Hall.

"Your brother has no sense of humour," Daphne whispered to Nicole.

"Then why do you even try?" Nicole sighed and, shaking her head, followed behind Alex.

When the four of them arrived at the Great Hall, it was packed with students. Everyone headed toward the Great Hall after the match ended. While they were all chatting among themselves, as soon as Alex appeared, almost every gaze turned towards him. No matter the outcome, the biggest winner of the game was here.

Alex and Daphne, without thinking much, headed towards the Slytherin table and, as usual, sat at the very end of the table. On the other hand, Nicole whispered something to Hermione and getting a nod from the tter, they followed behind Alex as well.

"Hey... Why are you sitting here?" Daphne finally got some quiet alone time with Alex, but these two were here again to ruin it for her.

"It's not like we can't... I have gone through the rule book of Hogwarts, but I can't recall any such rule prohibiting someone from using some other house's table." When it came to textbook knowledge, Hermione could proudly say she had no one to compete with.

"There is something called unspoken rules... Ever heard of them?" Daphne argued back and turned to look at Alex, "C'mon, say something."

"Let them be... It's nothing to fight over," Alex refused to indulge them. He had no idea why would girls bicker over these silly matters. There was nothing to gain from it. And if there was no profit, it's worthless to give it a second gnce.

"You...." Daphne was just a word away from cursing," Humph... Only because Alex agreed that I am allowing you to sit here," Daphne said, not wanting to acknowledge her defeat.

"Ha... Ha... Alright, I will give you face," Hermione sarcastically replied.

While the girls were busy bickering, the Slytherins wanted to object. But they could not. Their previous experience with Alex was not something that great, and the memory from the Slytherin dungeon was still fresh in their minds. While the seniors felt it was too much for them to step in. It would be beneath them and look like they are bullying a kid.

So they all stole gnces at Malfoy, who was busy eating, not at all intending to have a conflict with Alex.

"So, what are your pns for Christmas?" Nicole spoke up.

"I will definitely go home. My parents are kind of worried about me. After all, it's all new to them," Hermione was the first to speak. In each of the letters she got, Hermione could sense the uneasiness of her parents.

"And you?" Nicole looked at Daphne and asked.

"Same... I will go home as well," Daphne said.

"Is that so?" Nicole pondered, "Well... Where do you live, Hermione? Since we all live in London, we might visit you," Nicole suggested.

"Will you?" Hermione's eyes glowed when she heard Nicole. She was suddenly expectant of their visit.

"Why not? If everything pans out," Nicole nodded.

"39 Hampstead Garden Suburb, northwest London," Hermione said.

"Well, it might be hard for me to remember it... Let's talk it over letters," Nicole said. Remembering the address was hard, but from what she knew, sending letters was not.

"Even I visit London often," Daphne thought she was being left and said, "Where do you live, Alex?"

"Hope Spring Home Orphanage. Do you want the address?" Alex replied, licking his fingers.

'Shit... Not again,' Daphne almost forgot about Alex and Nicole's situation. She couldn't help but curse herself.

Getting no reply from Daphne, Alex looked at her, and there was that look again. He could guess what she was thinking, but it was too bothersome to say, 'it's alright every time.

"I am done," Alex picked up a turkey leg and left. But daphne did not dare follow him.

"I am sorry," daphne apologised to Nicole.

"To be honest, it's not a big deal anymore. It has been years, and we don't pay much importance to it. But if people keep saying that they feel sorry just because we are orphans, it makes us feel pathetic," Nicole expined without getting angry or anything, "So you don't need to be sorry about anything... Just be normal."

But though Nicole said that, she did feel a bit sad whenever the fact they were orphans was discussed. She had always wanted to have a family. But she could not show it.

"Thanks." Daphne felt a lot better hearing Nicole.

"Well, let's get going then," Hermione suggested. It was the right time to leave.

  "Yeah."

Parting ways with Daphne, just as Hermine and Nicole walked inside the Gryffindor tower, they were stopped by Potter and Weasley.

"Hey... Stop you two." Sitting on the armchair with his legs crossed, Ron called out to the Hermione-Nicole duo. Meanwhile, Harry was getting rid of all the glitters on him. By the state the common room was in, it was safe to say that the celebrations had just ended.

"Come here," Ron, in fact, ordered when Hermione and Nicole looked in his direction.

"What is it?" Nicole walked towards them and asked in annoyance. She did not like his tone one bit. But bickering with this dimwit was more of a challenge.

"Oh... ho... ho... ho... Look at the attitude," Ron scorned, "Just because her brother won some money, she is acting all high and mighty."

'Don't bring my brother..." Nicole was triggered as soon as Alex was brought in. but Ron did not let her finish.

"I don't even want to talk to you..." Ron said, shifting his gaze towards Hermione, "I want to talk about what happened today."

"It was Snape, wasn't it?" Ron asked with his gaze burning.

"... I saw him focused on your broom, muttering... It was definitely a curse," Ron said.

"I think he knows we are suspicious of him," Harry said seriously, "And he wants us gone. One... by... One."

"Let's not jump the gun here. Alex said that Professor Snape might be trying to save you," Hermione expressed her opinion. She was confused between what she saw and what Alex said.

"Rubbish... As if I would believe a snake," Ron shouted his disapproval as soon as Alex was mentioned.

"Do you want to fight it out, weasel?" Nicole challenged Ron and pulled out her wand. Ron left no stone unturned to annoy her. She had no idea someone could be so annoying.

"Weasel? You... Do you think I am afraid of you or your brother?" Ron said as he took a step back, hiding partially behind Potter, "Moreover, Hermione also saw Snape cast the curse."

"Yeah, but it could have been a counter curse too," Hermione replied with a pusible expnation.

"Do you believe that? Haven't you seen how Snape treats us? Especially Harry?" Ron counterargued.

  "Yeah, but…"

"I think... That her brother is also with Snape, plotting together against Harry," Ron said, coming out from behind Potter.

"You have gone too far, Weasley," Nicole said, and without giving Ron the chance to defend, she attacked, "Mimblewimble."

And a beam of light hit Ron.

"Ewww..." As soon as the beam of light Ron, his tongue started to grow longer and slithered out of his mouth like a snake. As it moved like a snake, the tongue began to intertwine in itself, forming multiple knots. And in no time, Ron stood there letting out muffled noises in anger with his tongue rolled over the ground, tied to itself.

"The sight is unsightly, but the effects are great," Nicole smirked, "The world is peaceful again."

"Release him, Nicole," Harry demanded when he saw the unsightly appearance of Ron. And he spoke with authority.

"I won't. Aren't you a legend? Do it yourself," Nicole didn't give Potter any face, " And if you can't, go ask someone else. Let's go, Hermione," Nicole said and pulled Hermione away with her.

"The Fuck..." Seeing Nicole and Hermione leave, Harry stomped his leg in anger. How dare they not give him face?

Potter then turned his attention towards Ron and almost puked at the gross sight in front of him.

'What was that spell anyway?' Potter could not even remember the spell, much less its counter. All he could do was walk around with Weasley, asking for help.
