Alexys walks through the corridors of Solaris University, and with each step feels the eyes landing on her. Nothing new. People with powers always have that instinct to analyze each other, measure forces in silence. But in her case, the wind that seems to accompany her as an extension of her own will only increases the aura of mystery.
She likes it. He likes to keep people at a distance, to create an invisible barrier even before someone tries to approach. But for some reason, the conversation with Ethan keeps echoing in his mind.
Alexys (thinking, annoyed): "What a shit, why is he still in my head? nonsense."
It goes through a group of students against the walls, talking in muffled tones. One of them, a high-haired boy, crosses his arms as he sees her and mutter something to his friends, who release low laughs. Alexys rolls his eyes, but smiles sideways. There is always an asshole that you think intimidates.
She arrives at the bedroom building, pushes the door with her shoulder and finds a busy environment. Students entering and leaving the rooms, bags open on the floor, voices overlapping. The typical chaos of a first day.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Climbing the stairs to her room, she opens the door and finally finds herself alone. The wind is paid, as if respecting that moment. She lets out her suitcase on the floor, sits on the edge of the bed and lets her look wander through the small space. A desk, a closet, a window from which you can see part of the campus. All so simple, but so meaningful.
His eyes fall on a small photograph, carefully stored in the side pocket of the suitcase. She catches her, sliding her fingers over the image already a little worn out of time.
In the photo, she is, as a child, among her parents. His mother, dark -haired and warm smile, and his father, a man of a certain look and firm arms around his daughter. A knot forms in your throat.
FLASHBACK
A memory invades your mind tightly.
She finds herself small, running through the backyard while the wind plays with her hair. Your father is there, watching her with a fun smile.
Father: "Do you feel that, lex? The wind responds to you. He's your friend, your strength. But never forget ... True power comes from within."
Little Alexys laughs, spinning on the axis as dry leaves fly around it.
Alexys (Child): "If I'm a friend of the wind, then he'll protect me forever, right?"
The father's smile falters for a moment, but soon returns.
Father: - "Always."
FLASHBACK END
Back to the present, Alexys takes a deep breath and squeezes the photograph.
She didn't come to Solaris University just to play heroin or find out what she was able to. Came for him. It came because I needed to understand what really happened.
She looks out the window, seeing the moon illuminate the campus.
Alexys (whispering to herself): "I'll find out the truth. Even if I have to overthrow this whole university."
The wind inside the room blows slightly, as if he was hearing it. She lets out a sigh and keeps the photo inside the drawer. There is no time for nostalgia. She has a goal, and no one will stop her.
