Chapter 40: Life and Death Separation

Those guards saw Chu Chengming fall, but instead of being shocked, they became even more excited and agitated. They all wished to thrust their swords into his body to take credit for the achievement.

Yan Xijun could no longer remain calm and rushed towards that place like a madman. The guards didn't recognize her either, and upon seeing her approach, they didn't stop their swords but instead pointed them at her.

Chu Yixuan's heart was torn apart. He shouted loudly: "All of you, stop for me."

The guards stopped their swords and stood in unison, waiting for his command.

Qing and Lan were also held back by the guards. When they saw their master fall before them, both of them let out a sorrowful cry: "Master!"

Yan Xijun rushed to the front of Chu Chengming, staring at the wounds on his body with wide eyes. His entire body was covered in sword and knife wounds, still bleeding profusely. She panicked and helped him up, holding him in her arms, trembling as she called out his name: "Ming... Ming..."

Chu Cheng opened his eyes with great effort, a bitter smile spreading from the corner of his mouth. He grasped her hand and looked at her, muttering: "Jun Er, I failed to keep my promise. I won't be able to roam the world with you."

"There's...there's no need." Yan Xijun pressed her face against his handsome one, sobbing: "Ming, you didn't break your promise. Don't talk nonsense. Later, I'll go find a doctor to treat the wounds on your body. You'll get better."

"Don't talk nonsense." Chu Cheng Ming curled his lips and smiled lightly. "I'm going to die here today. I won't survive past today."

"I'm so resentful. Why did heaven take away my life? I haven't even been with you yet, and it's already deprived me of my power." Chu Cheng said angrily and sorrowfully, and a large mouthful of bright red blood spurted out of his mouth, flowing out continuously.

"Please... just stop talking." Yan Xijun's eyes welled up with tears as she cried, pulling out a handkerchief to gently wipe away the fresh blood from his mouth.

"No, don't speak again. There won't be any more chances to talk later." Chu Cheng's eyes were red and puffy as he stubbornly looked at her. Her tears mixed with the snowflakes falling on her face, hot and cold. He was so reluctant to part with her, his heart aching for her tears.

Then, he reached out and gently stroked her eyes, comforting her: "Don't cry anymore, it hurts me."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yan Xikun couldn't control her tears and cried even harder. She sniffled and tried to hold back her tears, but she couldn't contain the sadness and grief in her heart.

She held him in her arms. Her small hands grasped his hand that stroked her face and wouldn't let go again.

"You're really a silly girl." Chu Cheng Ming smiled painfully, his piercing gaze fixed on her as he made a request: "Jun Er, can you take the initiative to 'kiss' me once?"

Yan Xijun nodded, lowered her head and gently covered his lips with hers, giving him a gentle kiss like a feather brushing against his skin.

Chu Yixuan stood not far away, watching the scene unfold before him. He helplessly turned his head away. Although he wanted to stop this from happening, her sorrowful expression restrained his actions. He feared that if he pushed her any further, he would drive her mad.

He got her 'kiss'. Chu Cheng Meng smiled contentedly. Lovingly looking at her, he greedily asked: "Jun Er, you love me, right? You have me in your heart, don't you?"

Yan Xijun nodded heavily and said: "Ming... In my heart, there is only you. I have always loved you."

Chu Cheng smiled with a relaxed heart: "I love you too, very much, very much. Unfortunately, I won't be able to accompany you any further." After saying this, his consciousness had already become scattered and his drifting gaze couldn't find its focus.

"Ming." Yan Xikun cried out loud calling his name. Tears fell from her cheeks, dropping one by one into his eyes.

Chu Cheng's consciousness came back a bit more. Looking at her, he said intermittently: "I... am... so... reluctant to part with you."

"Ming... I am too." Yan Xikun hugged him even tighter. His small face was pressed tightly against his face.

"My dear, take care." Chu Cheng Mo said these four words and closed his eyes in despair. In that final moment, he finally understood. His birth was a tragedy for the world. Fortunately, he met her. It was she who made him understand what love is.

"Thank you, Jun Er. You must live well and take care of yourself. Along with my share of hope, keep living."

In a daze, Yan Xikun seemed to have heard the words he said to herself. Tears blurred her eyes. She stubbornly refused to look at his current state. She was afraid of bidding farewell to him in life and death.

Snowflakes fell thick and fast. The cold wind blew across her face. Yan Xijun maintained that posture, holding him tightly, always holding him.

Those guards have taken Qing and Lan away. Only Chu Yixuan, Luo Zhong, she, and the deceased Chu Chengming are left in the snowy field.

Chu Yixuan couldn't wait any longer, took a few steps forward, grabbed her arm and said gently: "Jun'er, let's get up, we have to go back to the palace."

Yan Xijun glared at him with a fierce and evil gaze, shook off his hand, and coldly shouted: "Don't touch me! Get out of here!"

Lu Zhong's body trembled slightly as he listened to the side. He had served his emperor for many years, and no one had ever dared to speak to him like that before. Yan Cairen was truly bold.

Luo Zhong thought the Emperor would definitely be furious, but unexpectedly he didn't get angry at all. Instead, he looked at Yan Cairen with a gentle tone and said: "Jun Er, everyone is dead, and no matter how sad you are, it won't change anything. Why not put down the knot in your heart and think about your body?"

"Get out! Get out! Get out!"

She hates him. At this moment, she is so angry that she wants to kill him. But in her heart, she knows clearly that she is not his opponent at all.

"You child, you hate me so much."

"Yes, you killed the one I love. I will hate you for the rest of my life." Yan Xijun looked at him with a hateful gaze. When she saw the precious sword hanging from his waist, an idea flashed through her mind.

"Die, you're all gone. I don't want to live anymore either. Wait for me, I'll come find you soon."

Yan Xijun suddenly picked up Chu Chengming's treasured sword that had fallen to the ground and without hesitation, she drew it across her own neck.

Chu Yixuan was shocked and without thinking, he reached out to grab the sword. His right hand directly grasped the blade of the sword, using force to snatch away the treasured sword, then threw it far, far away.

Yan Xijun's neck is fine, not injured at all. On the other hand, Chu Yixuan's hand was cut open by the sharp blade of the sword, and fresh blood flowed out from his palm.

"Your Majesty, your hand is bleeding." Luo Zhong exclaimed as he rushed forward, tearing off a piece of cloth from his robe to bandage him.

"I don't mind." Chu also said lightly. Zhao Zhong waved his hand.

"Why won't you let me die?" Yan Xijun glared at him furiously, her breath coming in short gasps. Wasn't she even allowed to die? Didn't they even give her the right to die?

"If you die, what should I do?" Chu Yixuan raised an eyebrow and looked at her menacingly, saying: "As long as I'm around, I'll never let you die."
