Chapter 1: Axel

It was pouring rain. I saw a small record shop I hadn’t noticed before. I squinted my eyes to get a better look at the name of the store through the haze that the rain had created. Rewind Records. I crossed the street and entered the store.

Inside, a girl with long brown hair sat behind the counter with her eyes closed. She looked to be about 15, and I was glad because I was 15. After a second she opened her eyes and smiled. “Hi, welcome to Rewind Records! My name is Jules, let me know if you need any help!” “Thanks.” I replied with, but right after I said it I regretted it. The Jules had been so welcoming to me and all I had said was thanks. Nothing else, just thanks. I walked around the store flipping through the records. I glanced at Jules several times and I had to remind myself not to look too much or she would be weirded out. It was really hard to to look because she seemed so interesting, and I hadn’t even talked to her. I was about to do one more circle of the store when the U2 section cought my eye.

I flipped through the section until I came across the album Joshua Tree. I picked it up and brought it to the front of the store so that Jules could ring me up. “Joshua Tree. Good taste I see.” I was astonished “Wait you listen to them too? I’ve never met someone who likes the same music as me.” “Yeah, they’re one of my favourites. I play their songs on guitar all the time.” Hold on, she has good music taste and she plays guitar?

Jules handed me my album in a paper bag with the receipt, and when when she wasn’t looking I quickly scribbled my name and phone number on the receipt and left it on the counter. “Well, I’ll see you around!” I said as I walked out of the store back into the pouring rain.
