The strongest. A table turned

Elsewhere while Arthur was farming animals and low level halflings, things were looking either grim or hopeful for the other tutorials.

  Tutorial- Aa1012

A field of green was drenched in blood. Rivers of it flowed and collected at the lowest point. Corpses of halflings and goblins littered the area. A group of humans looked over the mess they had created, grim-faced.

“Jesus, here I thought they would never stop.”

A blonde swordsman exclaimed with a mean-spirited bark of laughter. A grin on his face showed dirty white teeth. He sat on a large stone and cleaned his blade without a care in the world.

“Be a little respectful, Thomas, they are dead remember.”, a lady in a red cloak stated irritated. She had copper-like hair and wielded a crooked wooden staff

“Please, they almost fucking killed the three of us Amanda, I would have pissed on their rotting bodies if I had something in my bladder.”

“As vulgar as always, Thomas.”, came the remark of a short, dark-haired man standing a little bit away from the both of them. He stood there, fingering the string of the bow he held in his hands.

“Even then, he is right Amanda. The monsters almost killed us with this mob wave tactic of theirs. Only reason they failed is because of your fire wall and fireball.”

“Still doesn’t give us the right to mock the dead but for the sake of not fighting again I’ll stop.”

The woman sighed deeply. She snapped her fingers and a flash of dark red mana shot out of her fingertips. In the blink of an eye, the mana ignited and turned into fire, engulfing and then burning the corpses of their halfling opponents. No sense in giving the other monsters perfectly good corpses to feast upon.

“Anyone else levelled up from that? Got up to 14 myself.”, Thomas inquired

“I did, Thomas, level 13.”, Amanda replied shortly.

They both looked at their pale friend as they silently asked him to spill.

“Please, you know that group battles give less Experience. The fact that both of you got one level is already good enough.”

“Please Lance, you know why we want to know.”, a still grinning Thomas replied.

“We still have 4 days in the tutorial till the time limit expires. Plenty of time to hit level 15.”, came Lance’s dull answer.

“Damn right, plenty of time for all of us.”

  Tutorial Bc2304

A beam of light smacked the enormous gorilla right in their chest, pushing it back several metres. An average sized woman approached it, no fear shown on her face.

She was wearing a breastplate over her casual clothing. A Morningstar flail in her right hand, her left hand was raised to the second gorilla, its fingers glowing softly.

“I do not fear either of you. The Lord may not have shown himself during the tutorial, in fact this might be definite proof that he does not exist, but I still have the values I was taught, even without his love, I will not falter.”

The light from her fingertips, condensed into a ball and shot towards the second primate. It dodged in the nick of time as the ray of light smashed the stone behind it to pieces.

The first gorilla lunged at her, its fists primed, ready to flatten her. Quick as lighting she swung her flail, imbuing the tips of it with light mana as it smacked the beast’s thigh, burning the area of impact.

The woman jumped backward, just in time for the second gorilla had dashed towards her, but mistimed the dash as it barrelled straight into the first gorilla.

The woman started another spell. This time it was a critical strike.

  “Smite”

The light gathered above their bodies and fell upon them with a vengeance. The gorillas screamed as their flesh was burnt away and their bones were charred into blackened pieces.

  Tutorial Ac1289

A halfling group lay demolished in their signature clearings within the forest. Their main elder laid dead on the ground, a dagger in his throat. Their archer wasn’t giving any signals. It was just the one cursed swordsman and their highest levelled ally.

  [Halfling Shielder (level 15)]

“This is bad short friend; we have no backup here and we face an unidentified foe. Keep your eyes peeled. Do not disappoint the king.”

The Shielder raised his tower shield, his eyes focused on the thickets that surrounded them. The swordsman behind grumbled about not being short before a rustle alerted them to another one’s presence.

  “Ohhh? You speak? Since when?”

The six foot six Shielder looked at the man, opened his mouth o say something when suddenly-

A massive force weighed on his shoulders. His knees buckled, his shield was forcibly lowered and he strained to look at the man without falling to his feet.

  TWANG! SHLLK!

The man’s arm blurred, and 2 daggers were thrown at them. His shield still blocked one, after monumental effort from the Halfling, but the swordsman was hit in the shoulder.

Another one was thrown, this time, it struck true. The swordsman collapsed, a pool of blood tainting the ground beneath his dead body.

The Shielder barely had time to blink before the rogue human was on top of him. Raising his arm, shield met dagger as the man used his shield to push himself backwards, sprinting towards the left as soon as he landed.

Once again the immense pressure almost force him to his knees, but he stayed strong as fended off attack after attack.

“You brute, how dare you attack one of the king’s men!”, the Shielder exclaimed angrily.

The man laughed in his face.

“I already killed a dozen of you and not once have I seen anyone complain. Then again, I haven’t seen anyone of them talk either.”

A manic smile appeared on the man’s face as he dashed towards the Shielder.

Violet mana gathered around his left hand, engulfing his palm, his fingers up to his wrist.

The Shielder raised his shield one final time. This was to be his undoing. The rogue approached him straightforwardly. Once he reached him, he gently but quickly placed his left hand on the shield itself.

  “Corrupting touch”

The violet mana turned pitch black as it seeped into the shield. Cracks began to show as the shield broke apart.

The Halfling tried to run or even unbuckle his shield, or pull out the spare sword he rarely used, but the pressure came back with a fury.

The rogue looked him dead in the eye, all traces of amusement gone from it.

  “Kneel”

And so he knelt, compelled by an invisible force. His knees hit the ground, while the darkness from the magic attack started to now corrupt away his body.

“How? My innate resistance as a living being should protect me from such attacks from lower levelled beings”

  [Human rouge level 14]

“Please, my Intelligence his high enough to attempt this type of attack and my Wisdom high enough to have the mana for it. What made you think that simply being higher levelled than me is enough to be simply be better. “

The rogue made a small cu across his cheek and then chuckled to himself.

  “They simply built me better.”

He then turned around and ran away.

Before the Halfling could even say anything, his cheek started to throb painfully. His vision became distorted, his blood felt like it was on fire.

Slowly and painfully, the Halfling collapsed on the ground, the skin on his head turning sickly yellow, his eyes closed as he slept eternally. Never to wake up once again.

  Tutorial Aa0001

A lone man stood amongst a pile of corpses.

He held a playing card between the fingers of his right hand. He looked sombre, but the manic gleam in his eyes betrayed him.

“That was a thrill, wasn’t it?”

“For your grade, I suppose it was adequate.”

He looked at the being next to him. Beautiful was an incomplete way of describing her. So was gorgeous, or stunning or any other term in any human language.

Dark red locks descended till a little below her nape. White skin without blemishes. Deep blue eyes like the bottomless sea.

Yet those eyes exuded a maturity not seen in any person he had ever met. Her very presence commanded reverence and adoration.

Her smiling face showed great white teeth, normally hidden by red lips.

Even with all these features, as the man remained mostly entranced, not a single creature around the two of them bothered.

Flies attracted to the corpses flew past her, the monsters he had slain had not given her a single look never mind a double take or more.

“Only I can look at you?”, the man asked puzzled. The lady kept smiling, he didn’t know how this woman entered his tutorial. Ever since he started using his card magic, he saw more and more of her.

Eventually, she simply stood beside him as he started killing more of the goblins. He remembered her first words to him.

“You walk a difficult path. Not because it is hard to learn but because I decide if you can continue your path.”

Yeah, that scared him, especially since she said that while smiling that gorgeous smile of hers.

  “Nope, only you can”

Her words jarred him out of his memories. His eyebrows furrowed as he prepared to ask another question.

  “How? Why?”

“How? Isn’t that a good question, the answer is simple. I didn’t allow the others to see me.

Why? Is harder to explain, after all how would you understand my intentions? Since you are so weak?”

The man took a deep breath. “Which grade will I understand?”

  “No mortal one.”

“I would have to become God?”

“A god. Small ‘g’, one of many. And not just any god. A pinnacle being”

  “How would I do that?”

“Ascension is easy. The difficult part is reaching a stage where you can ascend or staying sane after it.”

  “What are you?”

The lady’s eyes seem to shine.

“As of right now? I’m your lucky charm on the way to Godhood”

She raised her arm in front of her. In a twisting motion, similar to ‘vanishing’ a card in front of children, she curled her finger.

“You were a gambler, weren’t you? A bad one at that.”

“Had a few bad days … or weeks”

“Then I have the perfect gift for you”

She showed both hands to him, smiling. He picked the one he saw twisting in the air.

  “Still fooled by misdirection?”

She opened both hands, the hand that twisted through the air, the left one, had a twenty-sided dice on the palm.

Her right hand had, somehow, a stack of cards. The man paled. Should he have picked the other one?

“The choice you made is not game over.”, the lady replied, seeing his confusion.

He smiled reaching out to tak-

  “At least for now”

Damn it his anxiety is back. Once again taking a deep breath, he took the dice. Looking at the woman dead in the eyes he spoke cheekily, a bad habit he had since he was young.

  “Always did like the thrill.”

The lady clad in red like her hair and lips laughed. A full belly laugh, with a snort at the end. And God- gods he guessed now- above was it beautiful.

  -------------------><-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------><--------------

Thul was excited, nay exhilarated. He finally finished his job. True, since the start of Integration he had almost died five times, but he didn’t so all’s well that ends well.

Add the fact that he secured the ring, Thul was riding his horse home in style. Of course, not everything is roses and peaches.

“Move it yip!”, came the barking order of his superior. Alrik, hobgoblin knight of the House Yer’Thra, along with his two squires, Belrik and Aulyeerg.

Thul was Level 11, two levels higher than Belrik and an entire three levels higher than the newly levelled up Aulyeerg. Even then he was last in the chain of command, he was a lesser goblin, while the others were all hobgoblins. He had fun in this mission and Aulyeerg was less horrible than the other two … comparatively speaking, but nothing lasts forever.

The party made its way across the plains, far away from the forests the Halflings made home. As they approached a riverbend, flowing lazily, they saw a creature nobody in their party had encountered before.

  [Human Knight(G-grade) level 13]

The figure was washing their face in the river, their sword beside them. The party slowed itself to a halt. Alrik observed the human as stealthily as possible.

“Aulyeerg, sneak upon that beast and kill him, it should level you up to level 9 quickly enough.”

“But uncle , the human’s level 13 that’s higher than you.”

“Remember what the great elder had said, that human he had fought felt three levels lower than what the System had shown. Clearly, their race is inferior to ours. Our potential and already impressive strength mean we have a harder time levelling up. You can defeat him, he should be level 9 in strength anyways.”, came Alrik’s reply in a sage-like voice.

The sheer arrogance in his speech was completely unnoticed by the knight or the two squires. Thul, however, remembered that the elder had more wounds than what a being three levels lower should have been able to inflict.

Aulyeerg, his confidence now bolstered, started to approach the human, his horse trotting along for the first few minutes before they started charging towards the unsuspecting warrior, the horse and squire becoming one.

  [Silent-Step Courser(G-grade) level 7]

The animals that were taken care of by the goblins also went through the tutorial, levelling up alongside their owners.

As the goblin child started to enter striking distance, he lowered his wooden lance.

  3 clicks.

  2 clicks.

  1 click.

It seemed that the human would die without giving a fight when suddenly, they sprang from the ground, leaving traces of green man everywhere. With sword in hand, the knight got into some stance as their eyes scanned the battlefield.

“Strike quickly Aulyeerg! The beast is still two levels higher.”

Thul saw the human mouth something underneath their breath as they instantly charged towards the squire.

“Move Aulyeerg, dumbass don’t just stand there!”

Yet Aulyeerg wouldn’t move at all. The young goblin stayed frozen as the enemy quickly got into striking distance.

Their sword was covered in dark forest green mana, whether that was because it was the natural colour of the mana or because it was that dense Thul didn’t know.

“Thul, cover the fool of a boy, Belrik we charge at once! I trust you remember how to use freeform mana?”

  “” Yes Sir!””

Thul immediately began trying to use his spells, chanting in order to summon the spirits necessary to hold down this human until the cavalry arrived, literally this time, when the human’s eyes and his met.

Glowing dark forest green eyes, met dark bark coloured brown when Thul felt a pressure on his neck, and he understood why Aulyeerg didn’t move. It felt like a sword was above his neck. Ready to sever his head and neck apart at the barest of inconveniences. He saw Belrik’s horse stagger, while the squire himself froze into position. Only Yalrik and his steed had kept on charging.

Thul saw the human’s sword pierce through Aulyeerg’s neck. The swordsman twisted mid-air and slashed downward, cutting the horses neck clean from its body.

Yalrik cried out in rage, his lance lowered, with the tip crackling with lightning. The human merely dashed to the side, sidestepping the horse and therefore the lance completely. The presence of the sword had not lowered before the human spoke out loud.

“I may be a beast good sir, but this beast of an inferior race will be your end here.”

The human smiled, medium long black hair swept behind his skull, his voice proving him to be male, a grin on his face as he dashed towards Belrik and cut down his horse’s legs.

The horse squealed as it fell. A moment later Belrik screamed from the pain of his legs being crushed by the poor beast.

Even with all of this, the human dint look again at Thul, yet the lesser goblin shaman dared not to cast any spells. He may be the only one in his party to have some sense on when to attack since after all.

What sane goblin would fight against this beast, this beast who’s mere presence could cause everybody to stagger and stumble, who effortlessly killed one of their team, and casually crippled another.
