Chicken of Find Traps: Uncommon. Requires Attunement. Once attuned to this chicken's collar, you may speak to the chicken psychically, and may increase your initiative by 3 as long as the chicken is conscious. Use Owl stats from Monster Manual with these exceptions: the chicken has a fly speed of 30ft, it speaks common, and its Wisdom stat is 18.
It has the special feature Find Trap: upon spotting a trap, this creature uses its reaction to move its speed towards the trap, attempting to spring it preemptively if it is reasonably safe to do so. If the trap seems like it would hurt the creature attuned to it, the Chicken will instead use its psychic connection to warn them instead.
The Chicken prefers to be called Charles and thinks nothing of giving his life to spring a trap for his liege. A replacement Charles can be obtained from a mysterious Peddler at no additional cost.
Fashionable Dress +1: Rare. You gain a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws while you wear this fashionable dress and no other armor. As a bonus action, you may change the cut, color, or style of the dress as long as it stays reasonably sized for you.
It also has pockets! The pockets act as an extradimensional space that stores six cubic feet of material (as long as it can fit through the opening) or sixty pounds for each of the two pockets, without burdening the wearer.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
Manual of Fantastic Advice: Very Rare. An object of fantastic power, this book contains advice tailored to the reader, and its words are charged with magic. If you spend 4 hours over a period of 6 days or fewer studying the book's contents and practicing its guidelines, you may increase two of your ability scores by 1. The manual then loses its magic, but regains it in a century.
NPC [Good/Trustworthy] The Peddler
Use Commoner Stats with the exception of Wisdom, which is 22.
Trait: No nonsense. This creature has advantage on Insight checks to decern a lie.
Trait: Don't Blink. Once this creature breaks line of sight, or is obscured (ducks behind a table, drops a smoke bomb, jumps in a bush) he falls through a portal to a special hideout on the Shadowfell. The portal closes swiftly behind him.
The peddler is a mysterious man in a long coat and a scarf around his mouth. He speaks in a scratchy voice. He has a bag of holding that sells all common and some uncommon magic items at the DMs discretion. He shows up exactly when needed to purchase and sell magic items, but is reluctant to purchase or sell weapons. He loves commerce and dislikes liars, but tries not to hold it against folk that lie for monetary gain. He's got a simple job, and he does it honestly.
Optional Feature: Special Copper Coins. When a player makes a search check for some kind of clue or to satisfy their curiosity, but nothing is there in the module or the DM'S notes, they can choose to have the player find a special copper coin. This coin is not real currency for anyone but the peddler. The peddler usually takes 5 coins for 1 Uncommon Magic Item.
You may also choose to have a table of suitable magic items, and have the peddler offer 5 coins per spin of a wheel, but that may be more work than some prefer.
