Chapter 59: The Situation is Severe
Zhao Tong walked towards the gate with his head hung low and a dejected air, feeling utterly disheartened.
"Hey, Zhao Tong!" A greeting suddenly came from behind him. He reflexively turned his head back and saw that it was Xiao Jia, a buddy he usually got along with. He stopped in his tracks.
"What's going on? You're not going to work anymore?" Little Jia asked with concern, he was one of the helpers beside Zhao Tong during their argument earlier, and his relationship with Zhao Tong had always been very close.
"I... I got fired..." Zhao Tong felt like he had lost all face.
Xiao Jia Zhang's mouth was wide open in surprise: "How can this be? What's going on? It won't do, let's go back and tell the director." As he spoke, he pulled Zhao Tong and started to head back.
"It's all right." Zhao Tong pulled Xiao Jia over and briefly explained what had happened. Xiao Jia immediately understood everything.
Xiao Jia also felt it was a pity, but he knew that it might be irreversible: "Alas, I heard some news the other day, saying that Director Li's younger brother didn't get into college and wanted to transfer to the workshop. Do you think it's possible that Director Li wants to transfer his own younger brother here, so he let you go? That's too unjust."
Zhao Tong was also very surprised, how come he had never heard of such a thing? His gaze dimmed again immediately, what's the use even if it's like this? He has no power or influence, what can he use to reason with others? It's still just being opened and said.
"I'm leaving, you take care of yourself, don't see me off, go back." Zhao Tong's heart felt even more uncomfortable.
He went back home, lay on the bed and covered himself with a quilt, wanting to sleep soundly. However, he tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. On one hand, he felt lucky that he was forced to resign because of Director Li's favoritism. On the other hand, he thought he had caused big trouble for the factory and should be fired.
Unable to suppress his guilt, he was full of contradictions. The face of this twenty-year-old young man had a few more shades of dusk and sorrow.
Zhao Tong has never had a good life since he was young, and has never worn good clothes. He hasn't eaten well either, and because his family didn't have money, he also didn't continue his studies. He was already more mature than others, and now, because of Liu Mei's matter, he has taken on the heavy burden of a thousand gold.
Zhao's mother was discharged in the afternoon. The hospital gave her a routine check-up and found no problems, so they let her go home.
The old couple supported each other and arrived at the door. Mr. Zhao pushed it gently, and to their surprise, the door opened. The two were shocked, as there was no one in the house, and their children were usually not home in the afternoon. Had they been robbed?
They quietly pushed open the door, and inside was dead silence. They saw Zhao Tong's bicycle parked by the wall, and only then did they let out a sigh of relief. But why hadn't their own son gone to work?
Zhao's father pushed open Zhao Tong's door first and saw that he was fast asleep under the quilt, so he didn't wake him up.
After settling Zhao's mother, Zhao's father took Song Jie back home.
Song Jie finally returned home with Xiao Li, she had been worried to death for the past few days. She didn't know how her grandmother's illness was doing, nor did she know if it was very serious? Every day, she still had to pretend to be a carefree child, it was really hard on her.
It's great to be able to go home now, what a relief.
After Zhao's mother returned, she lay directly on the bed. Zhao's father didn't let her move around. Song Jie climbed to the bedside and held Zhao's mother's hand: "Grandma, I miss you."
Zhao's mother took a look at her little heart and found that she was perfectly fine: "Grandma misses Ni Ni too. Have you been eating well these past few days?"
"Is that so, Grandma? You're sick? Get well soon." Half of Song Jie's worries were gone. Grandma would be back in a few days. It seemed her body was fine, what great news.
"Alright, alright, Grandma will be fine soon. When that time comes, I'll take NiNi out to play." Upon hearing this, Zhao's mother felt invigorated.
Song Jie is too young. It's also not good to talk nonsense. However, she has patience and always knows the course of events.
The lanterns were first lit. Every household had bright lights. Father Zhao had prepared dinner early and brought it out.
At this time, Zhao Tong had not yet woken up. Zhao's father pushed open the door to Zhao Tong's room. Inside was a dark and gloomy space. A lump rose from under the quilt, and an outline could still be made out.
"Zhao Tong, wake up! Zhao Tong." His father called out as he turned on the light. This child is not right.
"Hmm" Zhao Tong slowly got up, rubbed his eyes with his hands, and put on his clothes.
For some reason, he still felt that something was off, Zhao Tong was a bit abnormal today.
Zhao Tong washed his face and sat silently at the table, picked up a bowl and started eating rice, but the dishes on the table didn't move a chopstick.
"Eat your meal, what's on your mind, you're even distracted while eating?" Zhao's mother said with some concern.
Zhao Tong was like a dream, suddenly waking up, scooping some dishes into the bowl, and then burying his head to eat bitterly again.
Zhao's father and mother looked at each other, both seeing doubt in each other's eyes...
After dinner, Mr. Zhao put two cups of tea on the table and stopped Zhao Tong who was about to leave: "Xiao Tong, come, let's have a chat, it's been a long time since we had a good talk."
Zhao Tong hesitated for a moment and sat down at the table opposite him. From eating to now, he hadn't said a word, even an idiot could see that something was wrong with him.
"Come, have a drink of water." Zhao's father didn't get straight to the point, letting his son catch his breath first.
Song Jie's ears perked up high as she ate her fruit, and even the little Lian in her arms didn't dare to make a fuss or grab her apple. She looked calm and quiet, wagging her tail back and forth. The big tail swept back and forth, sweeping across Song Jie's nose tip, making her sneeze repeatedly. Song Jie pressed down on Lian's tail and continued to eavesdrop.
"Zhao Tong, why didn't you go to work today? Did something happen?" Zhao's father asked casually while taking a sip of water.
"No." Zhao Tong replied quickly, seeing his father glare at him, and then said in a low voice: "Really no." His tone was pitifully low.
Although Zhao's father doesn't have a strong presence at home, he is the one Zhao Tong fears the most. With just one glare from him, Zhao Tong becomes afraid, which is a result of his strict upbringing since childhood.
Zhao Tong's words were unconvincing even to himself, let alone deceiving others. Song Jie rolled her eyes in her heart, this little uncle of hers was really something, he couldn't even tell a decent lie.
"Today Liu Mei's father came to our factory and made a scene. Our leader thought it would have too much of an impact, so they fired me."
This sentence was too explosive, Song Jie suddenly raised her head, even forgetting to pretend. Fortunately, Zhao's father was also shocked and didn't notice her, so she wasn't exposed.
"This is really too much!" Zhao's father slammed the table, "Moreover" The tea on the table spilled over, water splashed all over the table, and flowed down to the ground along the edge of the table.
Zhao Tong didn't have time to feel sad about the spring and autumn anymore, and quickly wiped the table. The tense atmosphere suddenly relaxed, and it wasn't so serious anymore.
Song Jie is so clever, she's not a three-year-old kid, of course, she understood the implication of Zhao Tong's words.
The reason for this is that Zhao Tong's girlfriend, because of something bad, grandma was hospitalized, and Zhao Tong lost his job. What kind of thing has such great power, making the whole family turn upside down?
Song Jie really wished she could grow up instantly and have the right to speak, to figure out the cause and effect of things. Unlike now, so powerless.
The conversation between the two of them gave her a complete explanation and clarified the cause and effect, it turned out that they had encountered a family of extreme products.
Nowadays, robbery is punishable by death, how can the Liu family be so ruthless? In recent years, it's a period of severe crackdown by the country, and being a hooligan and engaging in speculation are equally serious crimes. Now that the criminal law is chaotic, killing one or two people is just a normal thing.
Song Jie's mind was in a daze and sweat beads formed on her forehead. Her grandfather might not have realized the severity of the situation yet, thinking it was just a matter of reputation.
It's not as severe as it was a year or two ago, but the signs are already very serious. If caught, there's no escaping death, and that family is just one of those extreme cases. It's not impossible to be framed and wrongly accused, how did I end up encountering such a thing?
Song Jie's forehead was covered in sweat, she really wished to reveal her identity and warn them. But then she would be burned to death for being possessed by a ghost, what to do, what to do?
The more anxious she became, the more Song Jie's mind went blank, and her sleeves were soaked with sweat.
On the other side, Zhao and his son couldn't think of a good solution for the time being, just like sticky candy that you can't get rid of. The saying "good people fear rascals" is really true.
Liu Mei's father was a rascal when he was young, and only became more serious after growing old and starting to work in the factory. His son also learned his father's skills from a young age, becoming notorious as a hoodlum in their neighborhood. Now that they've set their sights on the Zhao family, they won't rest until they've squeezed them dry.
They have no foresight, and they are worried about some extra small things.
Song Jie can only hope that the space she is in is a parallel space. Since she no longer exists, this world may have some different situations, at least there should be good development. Then she may have loopholes to drill through, and at least solve the current crisis.
This was the most severe situation, Song Jie had no grasp of being able to solve it by herself, she must let Zhao's father know about it. Zhao's father didn't live for so many years for nothing, at least his experience and wisdom were much deeper than hers.
What to do? Song Jie is now facing something that is not as simple as a village woman, this is her own little uncle.
Thinking of the little uncle in Xiao Zhang village who played with her and lifted her onto his shoulders to tease her, Song Jie's heart was determined that she could not let her loved ones suffer any harm, no matter how heavy the cost.
If I were to be reborn again, if I couldn't even protect my own family, what's the point of being reborn? Might as well just go reincarnate instead. Besides, I can still use magic now, which gives me so many more advantages than others. I'll definitely find a way to deal a fatal blow to the enemy. Whoever dares to harm my family will have their throat torn out by me!!!
Song Jie's eyes rolled over and saw the newspaper on the table. Hmm, she thought of an idea to remind her family.
