Honestly, Tesilim had hoped he had progressed much more than where he currently had, but Lili and Alyx weren’t kidding when they said progress began to slow down the further along someone got. Still, progress was progress, and he moved on to see his two new abilities.
His ability screen hadn’t changed much and neither had most of his abilities. The only one he saw that had changed any, outside of the one he had just upgraded, was Dark Vision, whose range had gone up from 100 feet to 300. It wasn’t too much, but it was a nice increase, and he wasn’t going to complain.
The first ability he looked at was his upgraded ability, which had gone from Chaos Boost to Chaos Infusion.
Chaos Infusion: You can infuse your Mana with your own attuned Chaos Mana. You may infuse any amount of Chaos Mana. The more Chaos Mana that is infused the stronger the final magical outcome will be.
Warning: Chaos Mana infusion will trigger a Chaos Event regardless of the amount of Chaos Mana infused.
It was a significant change since it removed most of the limitations of his old ability. Now, it was no longer limited to spells but just to his mana, something he hoped to change later. Of course, there was the obvious fact that it no longer limited him to specific amounts of Chaos Mana at a time. It was a nice change, but considering less of his special mana meant less power while still causing a Chaos Event, Tesilim wasn’t sure if he wanted to infuse things all willy nilly.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
Next up was his new ability. Chaos Body.
Chaos Body: You are able to process your Chaos-attuned Mana faster through your Chaos Infusion ability by priming your body with your unique energy.
You have also discovered the ability to store and circulate the mana within the confines of your body. While in the confines of your body, the Chaos Mana is easier to unleash. However, though it is still undetectable to most senses, the mana can be much more easily spotted by senses. Finally, if your Chaos Mana leaves the confines of your body by any means, it will trigger a Chaos Event.
Warning: While your Chaos Mana is confined within your body but outside of your soul, it allows you to regenerate extra Chaos Mana. Extra Chaos Mana is not able to be returned to your soul.
The ability was a game changer and more than likely what would allow him to unleash his Chaos Mana with techniques. More importantly, it let him store more Chaos Mana, which could always come in clutch. Yet, it could be problematic since it was easier for others to notice the mana now than when it was just in his soul. The one issue Tesilim had was that it said his mana was undetectable to most senses, but could now be much more easily seen by senses. That didn’t make sense and was something he would have to test out.
In fact, he would test it out now before things possibly got more chaotic.
The two ladies noticed him stir, and Jolly spoke up, still surprisingly calm even after being made to wait.
“Ready to go?”
“No, not yet. There was one thing I had to test out first.”
“Hmm, what is it now?” The dryad responded as she and Lili stared at him.
Looking at the two sitting on a couch, Tesilim smiled, “Let me know if you can sense anything.” Then he closed his eyes and focused on bringing mana from his soul into his body.
Lili instantly noticed. It was like when she had first felt it all the way back when she had found Tesilim, except stronger, much stronger. The energy was like a beacon to her. She didn’t even need her presence to sense the energy. It was like feeling the wind on her skin, a simple and natural reaction.
Jolly noticed the white hair elf staring at Tesilim with wide eyes and couldn’t help but comment.
“Lili, are you all right? Is Tesilim all right?”
Her words startled the elf, almost like she had been caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to be doing.
“Uh, yeah, sorry, I was just paying attention to Tesilim, and well. You should check him out with your senses. You do have your passive presence out, right?”
“Yes, always,” Jolly answered as she focused on Tesilim and infused some of her will to scan the young elf, and then her eyes also went wide.
Opening his eyes again, Tesilim saw the two ladies staring at him and instantly knew they felt it. He had taken out all of his Chaos Mana, which was now circulating throughout his entire body as if it were blood. Interestingly enough, it didn’t feel different, and he was only aware of it being outside of his soul due to the taste and smell of fruit. Needless to say, that was odd since he had at least expected to feel like he had been hit with lightning, but instead, there was nothing. The only problem, at least he saw it as a problem, was the taste and smell of fruit, which would hopefully diminish.
Back to the real matter at hand, the two ladies staring at him like he was an actual unicorn. Of course, that really depended on how rare unicorns were in this world, but that was something for another time, and he needed to stop following random thoughts.
“What do you feel? When did you feel it? Can you stop staring at me?”
It took a few seconds, but Lili was the first to snap out of it and was quickly followed by Jolly. Then they both began walking towards him while throwing their own questions his way, and not bothering to answer his.
“What did you do?” Lili asked.
“And how did you do it?” Jolly continued.
“I made it so my mana is much more easily accessible. How did I do it? Well, I uncovered a new power.” Tesilim answered as Lili and Jolly inspected him closely, as if looking at him from different angles or poking him would reveal anything new.
“Guys, answer my questions. What are you feeling? When did you feel it? More importantly, was it obvious!?” Tesilim asked, annoyed at being ignored.
“No, it wasn’t obvious. I had my passive sense out and didn’t notice until I infused it with some willpower and poked you.” Jolly finally answered, and Lili agreed, even if it was a lie on her end.
“Wait, but I didn’t feel anything. Shouldn’t I notice when you do something like that?”
“No, that’s only with your soul since it's much more of an intrusion. You won’t really notice with your body as long as the person doing it is stronger and has enough control, or you know what to look for.”
“Well, that's worrisome. Still, what does it feel like to your senses?”
“It’s like you’re a walking pile of limitless possibility,” Jolly answered once again, with Lili simply agreeing with an “mhm”.
This time around, Lili wasn’t lying, Tesilim did feel like an ocean of possibility, except, to her, it also felt like a wellspring of unlimited power. A wellspring she was trying desperately not to drink from.
“Alright, well, that makes some sense. Let me know what happens now.”
Tesilim began to pour the mana back into his soul because that was something he could do. It was just that if his soul was full, Chaos Mana that was already out in his body, would be stuck there.
As Tesilim drained his body of Chaos Mana, Lili and Jolly felt the energy disappear from Tesilim’s body. For Jolly, everything went back to normal as if nothing had been there before. And it was mostly the same for Lili. She could no longer sense the mana as strongly but could still feel that it was in Tesilim’s soul due to her uniqueness. Not that she would let them know that.
“Okay, so can you guys still feel it?” Tesilim asked.
“No.” He got back from the two ladies.
“Perfect. Okay, let me try that again. Jolly, please don’t use your will this time around. I just want to make sure that once you feel it, you can’t just feel it all the time without your willpower.”
Seeing Jolly nod, Tesilim brought his Chaos Mana once again. And this time, Lili was prepared so there was no surprise on her face.
“Are you guys able to sense it?”
“No,” Jolly answered.
“Nope,” Lili lied.
“Awesome, now we can finally get to the contract.”
