The truth

SAM: Of course. More computers.
(He approaches the first terminal. It lights up.)

Emily's Room - The Door

EMILY: This is it. The escape hatch. Walk away and none of this counts.

Emily's Room - The Choice
(She doesn't sit. She stands frozen, staring at the keypad.)
EMILY: Fifty thousand dollars. That's what they offered. That's what I said yes to. Play a role. Be his dream girl. Simple.
EMILY: Simple. Right.
EMILY: I didn't ask for this. I didn't sign up to become... whatever I am now. A femboy. A joke. A thing the witch made for fun.
(Her voice shakes.)
EMILY: Do you know what it's like to look in a mirror and not recognize yourself?
EMILY: To wake up and reach for long hair that isn't there anymore? To feel wrong in your own skin?
…
EMILY: I miss being a girl. I miss it so much it hurts. And I can't tell anyone because Sam looks at me like I'm still me and Rani calls me a garbage femboy like it's funny and I just have to smile and laugh and pretend it's fine.
(Beat.)
EMILY: It's not fine. None of this is fine.
(She stares at the keypad again.)
EMILY: 0417. One door. One chance. Walk through and I'm back in my real body. Back in my real life. Fifty grand in my pocket. No more pretending.
(She imagines it. Typing. Walking through. Waking up alone.)
EMILY: Then I would be all alone again, huh? And Sam probably would find out soon.
(Flashback: Sam in the village. "You're still Emily. That's what matters.")
EMILY: He said that. When I was scared in the bathroom. When I told him I didn't recognize myself. He said that's what matters.
(She closes her eyes.)
EMILY: He's going to know soon. He's going to find out I lied. That I was paid.
(Her eyes open.)
EMILY: And when he does... he might hate me. He should hate me.
(Pause.)
EMILY: But here's the thing. Here's the stupid, terrible, impossible thing.
(She looks at the door one last time.)
EMILY: Somewhere along the way, I stopped acting. The blushing? That was real. The laughing? Real.
EMILY: The way my heart does that stupid thing when he looks at me?
(She touches her chest.)
EMILY: Real. All of it. Even though I didn't want it to be. Even though I was supposed to be playing a part.
(Beat.)
EMILY: If I leave now... he'll never know that.
(She steps back from the keypad.)
EMILY: I can't let that be the last thing he knows about me.
(She turns away.nStops.)
EMILY: God, I hope this doesn't destroy us.

(He moves on.)

Emily's Room - Leaving
(EMILY reaches the door. Hand on the handle. She pauses.)
EMILY: He'll find out everything soon. The contract. The money. All of it.
(She looks back at where the keypad was.)
EMILY: When he knows... he's gonna look at me different. Maybe he'll hate me. Maybe he'll never trust me again.
(Beat.)
EMILY: But at least he'll know the truth. At least he'll know I stayed.
(She thinks about the femboy transformation. Her hand unconsciously touches her face again.)
EMILY: And maybe... maybe there's a way back to being me. Maybe the witch knows something. Maybe we can fix this.
(Quieter.)
EMILY: Or maybe I learn to live with it. Maybe this is me now. And Sam still looked at me like I mattered.
(She takes a breath.)
EMILY: Either way... I'm not running.
(She opens the door. Leaves.)
(She steps back.)
EMILY: I'm not running.
(She turns away from the door. Walks toward the exit. Stops.)
EMILY: 0417. I'll remember it. But not today.
(She leaves.)
Sam's Room - Log 5
(SAM approaches the last terminal.)
(Sam looks at the terminal)
(WE DON'T SEE IT.)
(Camera stays on SAM's face.)
(He looks at it.)
(His expression doesn't change at all.)
(A long pause. Too long.)
(Then, slowly, his face shifts. A smirk on his face.)
SAM: ...Oh.
(He looks at the screen one last time.)
SAM: I see now.
(He walks out. Calm. Controlled. Different.)
—
The Hallway
(SAM exits first. Leans against the wall. Waiting.)
(EMILY exits second. Sees him. Walks over.)
(They stand in silence.)
EMILY: Find anything?
SAM: Enough.
EMILY: Bad enough?
SAM: Depends on your perspective.
…
EMILY: I found a door. An emergency exit. One person. Code on the wall.
SAM: Did you take it?
EMILY: I'm standing here, aren't I?
SAM: Why?
EMILY: Because you're here. Because we have to save Rani. Because I've been playing a role the whole time and I'm tired.
EMILY: Maybe this is what the witch was feeling too.
(Beat.)
EMILY: Also you'd probably figure it out and never let me live it down.
(Sam smiles)
SAM: Yeah. Probably.
…
EMILY: So what now?
SAM: Now we go to the main server room. Like planned. But we are not going to bring Rani back.
EMILY: What? Why?
SAM: We are not saving Rani. We are going where Rani is.
EMILY: …
(He starts walking. EMILY follows.)
EMILY: You gonna tell me?
SAM: Soon.
EMILY: That's ominous.
SAM: That's the mood.
(They walk toward the main server room. Together.)
ENDING
boss fight
EMILY: This is it?
SAM: This is it.
(He walks forward. Calm.)
(A big screen in the wall.)
SAM: We're here. You gonna show yourself or keep hiding?
SAM: “Dashgamer77”
(The main screen flickers on. DASH appears. Hoodie. Looks evil.)
DASH: Took you long enough! Three hours. Three whole hours. Do you know how boring it is watching you walk around for three hours?
(EMILY freezes.)
DASH: Emily! You did GREAT! The blushing? The crying? Chef's kiss. Worth every penny.
EMILY: Sam—
SAM: I know.
DASH: I messed up really hard. Time to end this for real.
(Lasers activate.)
DASH: Here's how this works. You dodge my attacks. Keep dodging it forever. You can't do much else.
SAM: Sorry, I have other plans.
(SAM pulls out the legendary sword gave by the old lady.)
DASH: A SWORD? Against LASERS? This is gonna be GREAT.
SAM: Start the fight.
(Explanation: This game uses a special time system which i will make in the game when I make it. The time written in these dialogues can change depending on how much time it took you to beat the game.)
(Note: it's hard to make a boss fight by just writing dialogues. So I will explain the mechanics here. It's a turn based combat. Dash tries to destroy Sam by using lasers and computer parts. Sam uses the legendary sword given by the old lady to destroy servers. Once all the servers are destroyed. That's where the fight ends.)
TURN 1
(Lasers fire. SAM dodges. Destroys a server.)
DASH: Do you even know who I am?
SAM: I know you very well, dash.
SAM: September 12. Six months ago. You appeared in my stream. Donated five dollars and said "Sam you're my hero."
(FLASHBACK: Sam's stream. Donation notification. "DashGamer77 donated $5: Sam you're my hero!" Sam reads it. Smiles. Keeps playing. But his eyes linger on the name.)
DASH: ...What?
SAM: September 19. October 3. October 17. November 8. November 22. December 1. December 14. December 24. You were in my chat every single week for six months. And you never said anything weird.
DASH: Being NORMAL tipped you off?!
SAM: Nobody in my chat is normal.
TURN 2
(SAM destroys another server.)
DASH: Okay, fine. You noticed me. So what? Emily still played you!
SAM: December 24. Christmas Eve. The day she first messaged me.
(FLASHBACK: Emily's first DM to Sam. "Hey! Big fan! Merry Christmas!")
SAM: "Hey! Big fan! Merry Christmas!" Who messages a stranger on Christmas Eve?
DASH: People who are NICE?
SAM: December 24, 8:30 PM. Our first date. Virtual.
(FLASHBACK 2B: Sam on a video call with Emily. She's laughing. He's smiling.)
SAM: I always wondered why would a girl like her, ever text a guy like me.
DASH: ...
SAM: December 24, 11:47 PM. She said goodnight. I stayed up for another hour. Thinking.
SAM: I didn't know what was happening. But I knew something was off.
SAM: She was playing my girlfriend for money, wasn't she?
DASH: Finally figured out? Loser!
TURN 3
(SAM takes a hit. Recovers. Destroys more servers.)
DASH: Even if you were suspicious—so what?! She still took the money! She still lied!
(EMILY steps forward. Away from Sam. Into the light.)
EMILY: Stop.
(DASH freezes. SAM freezes.)
(The fight pauses.)
DASH: What?
EMILY: You keep talking about me like I'm not standing here. Like I'm just... evidence. A point you're trying to prove.
DASH: You ARE a point! You took the money! You lied to him for months!
EMILY: I know.
EMILY: He's right. I took the money. I said yes to a job. I walked into your life pretending to be someone I wasn't.
SAM: Emily—
EMILY: Let me finish.
EMILY: (to Sam) When I first saw you on that screen... I didn't feel anything. You were just a face. A target. A way to pay my rent.
(Her voice shakes.)
EMILY: But then you laughed at something stupid I said. And it wasn't a streamer laugh—you know the one. The performance laugh. It was real. You were real.
(Beat.)
EMILY: And I started dreading the end of calls. And checking my phone constantly. And blushing when you complimented me—not because I was acting, but because my stupid heart couldn't help it.
DASH: She's lying! She's still playing you!
EMILY: I never signed the contract.
DASH: ...What?
EMILY: You pushed that paper at me for an hour. "Sign here. Initial here. Here's your fifty thousand." And I couldn't do it. I told you it felt wrong. You said "a deal's a deal" and I said okay—but I never signed.
DASH: That doesn't matter!
EMILY: It matters to me.
(She turns back to Sam.)
EMILY: I'm not saying that makes it okay. I still lied. I still hid the truth. I still let you fall for someone who started as a character.
(Her eyes are wet.)
EMILY: But somewhere in the middle of all this... the character became me. Or I became her. I don't know which. I just know that when I found the emergency exit—
SAM: The door.
EMILY: —the door. One person. Walk away, fifty grand, wake up in my real body. No more femboy. No more lies. No more guilt.
(She laughs. Broken.)
EMILY: And I couldn't do it. Because you were in the other room. Because Rani was gone and I couldn't leave without trying to get her back.
(Silence.)
DASH: ...Oh.
SAM: The emergency exit. You didn't take it.
EMILY: No.
SAM: You stayed.
EMILY: (crying) Okay?
SAM: We'll talk later. After we finish this.
SAM: You heard her. She stayed. She chose us. Now it's your turn to choose something.
DASH: ...Choose what?
SAM: Who you want to be when this is over.
(The fight resumes.)
TURN 4
(Lasers intensify. SAM keeps moving.)
DASH: Fine! Fine! Emily's a saint! But Rani? She left you.
SAM: She was forced. By you.
(FLASHBACK: Log 2. Email chain. "She's my granddaughter." "...It's done.")
SAM: You met Emily. You planned this game together. And somewhere in those plans, Rani got involved and became a problem.
SAM: Isn't that right, Dash?
DASH: She WAS a problem! She kept showing up! She wouldn't leave!
SAM: Today. 6:30 PM. You made your grandmother remove her.
(FLASHBACK: The witch's face as she does it. She does it because she has to.)
SAM: Rani. Crying. Begging. And you watched from your screen and said nothing.
DASH: ...
SAM: Rani wasn't a problem. You made her look like it. You treated her like a npc.
TURN 5
(SAM is struggling. Lasers everywhere. He keeps fighting.)
DASH: You don't get it! I was in your chat EVERY DAY! For MONTHS!
SAM: September 12. September 19. October 3. October 17. November 8. November 22. December 1. December 14. December 24. January 4.
(FLASHBACK: Stream clips montage. Each donation. Each message. Sam's face each time—noticing, but saying nothing.)
DASH: You... remembered the dates?
SAM: January 15. You stopped donating. You started watching silently. Planning.
DASH: I just wanted you to notice me!
SAM: I did.
(FLASHBACK: Sam alone after stream. Looking at subscriber list. DashGamer77 highlighted. Staring at it.)
SAM: I stared at your name for five minutes. I wanted to say something. I just didn't know what.
DASH: You... you thought about me?
SAM: I thought about all of them. Every lonely kid in my chat. Every person using my stream to feel less alone. You think I don't know what my job is?
TURN 6
(SAM destroys three servers in a row. The room shakes.)
DASH: STOP IT!
SAM: Not until you hear the truth.
DASH: What truth?!
(Flashback: Log 3 “Note: this is going to be hilarious”)
SAM: You thought this was funny.
DASH: It WAS funny!
SAM: It would be a decent prank. If you hadn't taken away Rani.
SAM: Emily cried when Rani was taken. Two hours ago. That wasn't funny.
TURN 7
(SAM is hit. Falls. Gets up. Destroys more.)
DASH: It doesn't matter! None of it matters! You still LOSE!
SAM: 6:30 PM. Rani was removed. You probably watched it happen.
DASH: ...I didn't think—
SAM: No. You didn't.
---
TURN 8
(More servers fall. The room is getting darker.)
DASH: (crying) I just wanted to be special! I just wanted you to SEE me!
SAM: I see you now.
---
TURN 9 - The Photograph
(SAM destroys the last server before the main screen.)
Dash: How do you even know all this.
SAM: I had suspections. That picture confirmed it.
(FLASHBACK: Entry 5,
The photograph. Grainy. Dated: January 5. Two people at a table. Dash and Emily. A laptop open to Sam's stream. Donation messages on screen. A paper written "Femboy Adventures.")
SAM: January 5. You and Emily. Planning this.
DASH: ...You weren't supposed to find that.
SAM: She was acting. All the blushing and flirting was done for the money.
DASH: See?! She was IN on it!
SAM: She also broke the script. She also stayed. She also chose us. People can change, Dash. You just never gave her the chance to show you.
DASH: …
---
TURN 10
(Dash has nearly lost the battle. He looks desperate.)
SAM: Why? Did you even though about her?
(FLASHBACK: The witch's face as she does it. Tears. Pain. But she does it anyway because she has to.)
SAM: You hurt people who loved each other. You broke a family. For what? Attention?
DASH: (crying) I didn't mean to—
SAM: Three hours ago, this game started. Three hours of puzzles. Three hours of crying.
SAM: And in those three hours, I figured out everything. Every date. Every message. Every lie. Because I've been watching you longer than you've been watching me.
DASH: ...
SAM: You're done, Dash. Not because you lost. Because you became someone even you don't recognize.
THE WITCH APPEARS
(A figure steps out of the shadows)
WITCH: He's right.
DASH: Grandma?!
WITCH: Game's over, grandson.
SAM: ...Grandson?
WITCH: Yes. He's my grandson. The boy who built this mess. The boy I've been covering for.
WITCH: (to dash) I watched you hurt people because you felt ignored. I watched you become someone I didn't recognize.
DASH: (crying) Grandma, I—
WITCH: No. You're done.
(She walks to a terminal. Types rapidly.)
WITCH: For the whole time in this game. I never used any of my powers. Wanna see them now?
(The room shakes. All servers spark and die.)
DASH: NO! You'll delete everything! The game, the data.
WITCH: It's over. I'm ashamed of you!
(She looks at SAM and EMILY.)
WITCH: Go. Now. The back door's open. You'll wake up in the real world.
EMILY: What about you?
WITCH: Ofc. I'm escaping too.
WITCH: March 1, 8:47 PM. Three hours and forty-seven minutes after this nightmare started. Remember this date. The day a grandmother finally did her job.
THE EXIT
(SAM takes EMILY's hand. They run toward a glowing door.)
(Behind them, servers explode. The room collapses into light.)
THE REAL WORLD
March 1, 8:52 PM
(SAM wakes up on his apartment floor.)
SAM: ...Ow.
(EMILY is next to him.)
EMILY: Did we just—
SAM: March 1, 8:53 PM. Three hours and fifty-three minutes. Yeah. We did.
SAM: By the way. Emily… Are you a gg-girl now?
EMILY: Yes. Ofc. I was only femboy in the game. I'm a girl in real life dummy!
(A knock at the door.)
(SAM opens it. RANI stands there. Real world. Real clothes. Real bag of chips.)
RANI: Took you LONG enough. I was waiting. Three hours. So bored. No friends. No snacks. Just waiting.
SAM: March 1, 8:54 PM. You're really here.
RANI: You okay? You keep saying dates.
SAM: (smiling) Just remembering.
(She sees EMILY on the floor.)
RANI: You. Still femboy.
EMILY: … Nope.
RANI: Good. Femboy vs tomboy. War is over!
(SAM laughs. Real laugh.)
—
Extra scenes
(SAM, EMILY, and RANI are in the apartment. A knock at the door. SAM opens it. RELLE stands there. Real world clothes. Tired but free.)
SAM: Ms. Witch? You're... you're here.
WITCH?: Ms. Witch? That's a bit formal for someone who broke down my door.
SAM: Sorry. I just— I don't actually know your real name.
RELLE: It's Relle. Just Relle.
SAM: Relle. Okay. Welcome to... my apartment. It's messy. Rani's been here.
RELLE: (looking at RANI) I know. I can tell.
RANI: (mouth full of chips) Grandma!
(She runs and hugs her. RELLE Hugs back.)
RELLE: I'm sorry. For taking you. For all of it.
RANI: You were forced. I know. I watched the emails.
RELLE: You... watched?
RANI: I'm not very brain. But I can read. Sometimes.
…
SAM: Coffee? Tea? We have... actually I think we just have water.
RELLE: Tea would be nice. It's been a long day.
(SAM goes to the kitchen. EMILY sits on the couch. RANI finally lets go.)
RANI: David grounded. Really grounded. Grandma took his computer. his phone. his gaming chair. I love it.
EMILY: David?
SAM: (from kitchen) Dash. His real name is David.
RELLE: My grandson. The one who thought trapping people in a game was "hilarious."
EMILY: That's... actually kind of harsh.
RELLE: He built a game to trap people because he felt ignored. Harsh is exactly what he needs.
(SAM returns with tea. Hands it to her.)
SAM: For what it's worth... I get it. The feeling ignored part. Not the trapping people part.
RELLE: (sipping tea) He always struggled. Making friends. Feeling seen. I thought... I thought if I gave him space, he'd figure it out.
SAM: I see…
RELLE: Well, That's a problem for another time!
(She looks at RANI.)
RELLE: You staying here?
RANI: Temporarily.
RELLE: "Temporarily" means forever. She's done this before.
SAM: I'm starting to realize that.
RELLE: Good luck. You'll need it.
RANI: HEY!
2 MONTHS LATER, May 1
(SAM's apartment. Night. SAM and EMILY sit on the floor, backs against the couch. Comfortable silence.)
EMILY: Hey.
SAM: Yeah?
EMILY: I've been thinking.
SAM: Dangerous.
EMILY: Shut up. I'm being serious.
(SAM looks at her. Waits.)
EMILY: All that stuff in the game. The contract. The money. The lying. I still think about it. Probably always will.
SAM: Me too.
EMILY: But that's not what I think about most.
SAM: What do you think about?
EMILY: You. Us. Right now.
(She turns to face him.)
EMILY: I didn't plan this. Any of it. I was supposed to clock in, clock out, cash a check. But somewhere along the way, you just... became my person.
SAM: Emily...
EMILY: And I know we don't say it enough. Because it's scary. Because after everything, it still feels fragile. But I need you to hear it.
(She takes his hand.)
EMILY: I really love you, Sam. Not the streamer. Not the main character. Just you. The guy who burns toast and forgets to respond to texts. The guy who said it was okay to be a boy. A femboy.
(Sam shakes his head. Smiling.)
SAM: I really love you too.
(They look at each other. No rush. No performance. Just truth.)
EMILY: Yeah?
SAM: Yeah. You're the best thing that came out of that whole mess. The only thing that mattered.
(Emily leans in. Kisses him. Soft. Real.)
(When they pull apart—)
EMILY: ...Your toast is burning.
SAM: Damn it.
(He runs to the kitchen. Emily laughs. Watches him go.)
EMILY: Idiot. My idiot.
EPILOGUE - 3 MONTHS LATER, June 1
(SAM on stream. EMILY next to him. RANI stealing food off-camera.)
SAM: So yeah. That happened. Three hours changed my whole life.
CHAT: THREE HOURS?!
CHAT: THREE HOURS IN HEAVEN BRUH
CHAT: WHAT HAPPENED TO DASH
SAM: Dash? He's grounded. His grandma took his computer. He sends emails now. His latest: "I'm in therapy. Grandma says I have 'big feelings.' I have to 'process them healthily.'
CHAT: LOL
CHAT: DASH REDEMPTION ARC
SAM: He's got a long way to go. But hey. We all do.
(EMILY leans into frame.)
EMILY: Tell them the other thing.
SAM: What other thing?
EMILY: The thing you've been waiting to tell them for three months.
(Sam grins. Turns to chat.)
SAM: Oh. Right. So. Remember how Emily was hired to be my fake girlfriend?
CHAT: YEAH
CHAT: THE PLOT TWIST
CHAT: WE REMEMBER
SAM: Well. Plot twist sequel. She's not fake anymore.
(Emily waves at chat. Smiles.)
EMILY: I really love this idiot.
SAM: (to chat) She just said that. Off-camera. You missed it.
CHAT: NOOOO
CHAT: REROLL
CHAT: WAIT SAY IT AGAIN
CHAT: WE NEED CLIP
EMILY: (laughing) I really love you, Sam.
(Sam looks at her. Then back to chat.)
SAM: Chat. She really loves me.
CHAT: W
CHAT: GREEN FLAG
CHAT: FAKE FEMBOY CONFESSED
CHAT: STREAMER WINS
SAM: (grinning) Yeah. I really do.
(A knock at the door.)
RANI: (off-screen) I'll get it!
(No one is at the door.)
RANI: Nothing. Door's broken.
SAM: June 1. Someone knocks at the door again. No one is there. That's the fifth time. I should start counting.
EMILY: You already are counting.
SAM: That's the joke.
(He looks at her. She looks at him. Small smile.)
The Cliffhanger
(SAM'S APARTMENT. Sunny afternoon. EMILY on the couch. RANI on the floor with chips. A knock.)
SAM: I'll get it.
(He opens the door. DAVID stands there.)
DAVID: Hey.
SAM: ...Dash.
DAVID: Can I come in? Grandma said I had to. Face to face. No screens.
(Sam steps aside. David enters. He sees Rani.)
DAVID: Oh. You're here.
RANI: I live here now.
DAVID: ...Okay.
RANI: You're so annoying.
DAVID: You're literally three feet shorter than me.
RANI: Height not matter. Annoying is forever.
RANI: Wait.
RANI: ...David, Emily, Sam. they most generic name in existence.
EMILY: What?
SAM: I get it. David. Emily. Sam. Three most common names in the English language.
EMILY: Oh my god! You're right.
DAVID: Hey!
EMILY: I didn't choose my name!
SAM: And David's literally the most generic villain name too. "Evil David."
DAVID: It's NOT generic!
(They laugh.)
EMILY: So... you're in therapy now?
DAVID: Three months. I have to talk about my feelings. It's humiliating. I hate it.
RANI: Good.
DAVID: You could say "I'm glad you're getting help."
RANI: I can say many things. I choose not to.
(Beat. Emily suddenly remembers something.)
EMILY: Oh! David. Here.
(She pulls out a check from her pocket. Hands it to him.)
EMILY: That money... from the contract. I never cashed it.
DAVID: You're... giving it back?
EMILY: It was both of our faults. The whole thing. Me taking the job. You making the game. We were both dumb. Both guilty.
DAVID: ...Thanks.
SAM: Wait. Hold on. How did YOU even get 50,000 dollars? And how did you trap us in a game? That's not normal teenager stuff.
DAVID: ...They helped me.
SAM: They?
DAVID: They just... appeared. Helped me get inside video games.
SAM: …
SAM: And the money?
