It was a bright, sunny afternoon. Starhaven was elegantly playing the piano, the beautiful music making the stars around them spellbound. Even a comet couldn’t resist curving its path to come and listen.
Just as Starhaven closed his eyes, lost in the music, a string of discordant notes suddenly interrupted him. He jumped up in shock, trying to figure out where those horrible sounds came from.
Little Demon was pressing the keys wildly with a tiny fork. Starhaven sighed, waved his hand, and the piano dissolved into a swirl of mist.
Little Demon stomped her feet, pouting, and asked, “Why won’t you let me play?”
Starhaven smiled gently. “Oh, Little Demon is here! It’s not that you can’t play. Music just sounds better when it’s harmonious. Let me teach you, shall we?”
Little Demon waved her fork. “Hmph! I won’t learn! My hell has music too, but it’s messy, chaotic, and weird, and I think it’s perfect that way!”
Starhaven laughed heartily. “That’s the sound of hell… yes, I can imagine it…”
Before he could finish, two boys came running from afar. The first bounced and rolled across the clouds, shouting, “Oh! Oh! Big brother is playing! Oh! Oh! Nightstar, stop dawdling, hurry up! You really should lose some weight!”
He bounced again, rolling twice more on the clouds before stopping. Before he could speak, Little Demon jabbed her fork at his nose. “Who are you? Why are you rolling? Who’s Nightstar?”
The boy darted behind Starhaven. “Oh! Oh! Scary! It’s Little Demon! Are you here to listen to Big Brother play too?”
Then the second boy came puffing, shouting, “Move aside! Where’s the Little Demon? Big Brother, I’ll protect you!”
He twirled a fluffy pink thing in his hands, transforming it into a silver shield, placing it in front of Starhaven.
Little Demon sat on the boy’s cottony pink head, laughing so hard she leaned back and forth. She pulled at the fluffy hair. “Hahaha! Why are you so fluffy, round, and pink? Are you a pet too?”
Suddenly, Dimi popped out from the tip of Little Demon’s tail. Hearing “pet,” Dimi transformed into a tiny fluffy pink ball with a tuft of pink hair, looking like a little monster.
Starhaven looked at the lively scene and stepped forward. He lifted Little Demon off Dawnstar’s head and said, “Little Demon, these are your starry brothers too. The bouncy, mischievous one is your third brother, Dawnstar. And this pink one, who’s holding the shield and protecting us, is your fourth brother, Nightstar. You cannot bully your brothers, okay?”
Little Demon stared curiously. Dawnstar tugged at his clothes to maintain his cool, his light green hair giving off a fresh vibe, bright eyes full of curiosity and mischief. Nightstar wore a fluffy pink cloud cloak matching his hair, round yet incredibly quick, his shield now like a soft cushion. His golden-orange eyes showed he was warm and sincere.
Heartstead Star floated over slowly, reaching to pat the little horns on Little Demon’s head. “Logically, the appearances of Dawnstar and Nightstar aren’t what you’d expect of starry brothers, but the universe is vast, ‘weird’ is just another kind of charm.”
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Little Demon jumped up, tapping Nightstar’s belly with her horns. “I like this pink fluffy ball! So soft! I want to lie on it and sleep!”
Nightstar quickly transformed his shield into a soft mattress. “Ah! Here, lie here, don’t poke my belly!”
Starhaven played a cheerful note. “Little Demon, quickly turn back into Little Starfish. Did you sleep well in Heartsea Star’s coral reef last night?”
Little Demon reluctantly put away her horns and became the twin-tailed girl in her moon-and-stars dress. “Ah! I remembered! I brought yummy things for the brothers!”
Starhaven smiled. “Seafood from the ocean? Or… those hellish Datura candies you gave Big Brother yesterday?”
Little Starfish snorted. “Neither! Look! Mushrooms!”
She held several brightly colored mushrooms, each glowing with deadly toxicity. Everyone instinctively stepped back.
Starhaven chuckled. “Ha, of course, little Starfish, all your food comes straight from hell, full of poison, huh? No wonder you love your toxic brothers so much!”
Little Starfish’s big eyes filled with tears, looking aggrieved. “These are from Heartsea Star’s mushroom garden on the island. I picked the biggest, prettiest ones just for you, but you’re scared and won’t eat. Look, my hands got scratched picking them!”
Heartstead Star grabbed a mushroom first. “I’ll eat them! If my little sister gives them to me, I’ll eat them all! Logically, as starry brothers, we don’t fear poison!”
Little Starfish looked at him, thinking, “This Second Brother is so gentle… I’m starting to like him already!”
The others picked up mushrooms too. Starhaven secretly purified them with starlight while Little Starfish wiped her tears. The mushrooms turned into sparkling dew, blending into the clouds.
Little Starfish beamed. “Let’s go play! I want to take the brothers somewhere. There’s a brother I like the most waiting there!”
Starhaven asked curiously, “Is it Heartsea Star from last night? Visiting his ocean would be fun too!”
Little Starfish shook her head. “Nope! You’ll see when you come with me!”
The four brothers turned into starlight and flew up following Little Starfish, with Dimi boosting them from the side. In the universe there was no day or night, the higher they went, the brighter the stars became.
Little Starfish suddenly became extremely excited and thrilled. She sped up, spinning joyfully toward an unusually dazzling star.
Heartstead Star quickly called out, “Wait! Little Starfish! Stop right there! If I’m not mistaken, that position, that brightness… could it be the brightest, Sirius? Logically, the light of Sirius could overshadow all of us, making it impossible to get close!”
Little Starfish’s dress shimmered in blue and white light, her hair sprinkled with tiny stars, and she beamed a honey-like smile. “You guessed it! It’s Sirius brother , don’t be afraid, just stay here, I’ll be right back!”
With that, Little Starfish turned into a tiny electron and darted straight to Sirius. Sirius shot out a burst of blue-white light to welcome her, the surrounding sky brighter than daylight. Laughter echoed as the little electron leapt and bounced around Sirius, jumping higher and higher, glowing more brilliantly each time, finally bursting like fireworks in the high sky.
The four brothers were carried away by the joy too. They soared along the edges of Sirius’s light, and Sirius adjusted the intensity, gently wrapping them all in warmth.
The universe seemed to have thrown a fireworks party, laughter echoing everywhere.
When the brothers finally paused, Little Starfish returned to her original form, bouncing happily back to them. Behind her followed a radiant, strikingly handsome man.
Little Starfish grabbed his hand and proudly said to the four brothers, “This is my very very very favorite Sirius Ben, I call him my Silly Ben!”
The four brothers were momentarily stunned. Dawnstar snickered, “Oh! Oh! So this is Little Starfish’s most beloved Sirius Ben! Such… such a handsome, dazzling brother, and you call him Silly Ben? Little Starfish, are you teasing him, giving him a nickname?”
But this time Little Starfish didn’t laugh. She gazed at Sirius Ben with deep affection and said, “Because he is the bravest, most persistent, and most doting brother in the universe. His courage makes my heart ache, I can’t help but scold him for being silly! That’s why I call him my Silly Ben. I hope he won’t be so silly as to sacrifice himself just for me.”
The four brothers fell silent, their smiles fading, their eyes filled with admiration for Sirius Ben.
Sirius Ben gave an awkward smile, ruffling Little Starfish’s hair, his deep magnetic voice saying, “Ahem, don’t listen to my little electron go on. I’m not that great… I just… ahem… I’m just not afraid of her going all explosive!”
This made the brothers laugh again.
Sirius Ben looked at Little Starfish with the gentlest, most doting eyes. “My little electron, didn’t you say you wanted to take the four brothers to see the black hole singularity? I don’t want you to get into danger. If you really want to go, then head to Cygnus X-1. There you’ll find the most cheerful and doting Zephyr Cygnus. With him there, I can relax!”
