The Lost Vampire System Chapter 8 - The Power of a Youngblood
Damion stepped forward with confidence in his step. He gave a glance at Jareth and winked at him before returning his gaze to Stacy whose hands were slightly shaky.
“What is your Evolved power or powers?” Stacy asked.
As a member of an Evolved bloodline and a member of the Youngblood family, I request to not even respond.”
This comment had greatly irritated Stacy, but she remembered that her supervisor said not to mess with a Youngblood. She swore that she will look into this later when the test was over.
For the others though they noticed that Damion mentioned that he was from an Evolved Bloodline and said that he was a member of the Youngblood family. Nobody had even heard of the name Youngblood. It didn’t ring a bell. He seemed to have more power than Madison had.
“As you wish,” Stacy replied.
She explained the rules, and when she finished, he waved his hands, causing chunks of earth to rise from the ground as a pink hue surrounded the rocks.
**
Note: Just like all the other elements, if your power is strong enough you don’t have to be touching the element or the element to be touching an object for you to use your ability. You can make the element float without the telekinesis ability. Now back to the story
**
“You have my Evolved power!” Emma said with surprise.
“An unknown energy is surrounding the area,” The Draven System notified Jareth. “Energy blocked. Identifying energy. Energy has been identified. Nephilim energy.”
“How could you forget?” Jareth mumbled out loud while shaking his head.
Damion thrusted out his arms and the rocks soared forward while sending out pink energy. The rocks smashed into the new targets much like what Hannah had done. After it was done, Damion turned around and his eyes glowed orange, the same as Hannah’s eyes.
When everyone thought that Hannah had the best performance, Damion had shown them that he was better. Through the mask, you could see her eyes widen in surprise.
Does he have the same ability as Hannah, Jareth thought. No, he also has Emma’s power as well. That can’t be a coincidence that he has the same power.
Stacy and Damion walked over to the Agility test. Damion started floating around in the box while his eyes glowed orange showing that he was looking into the future. This was something that Hannah did not do, but Damion wasn’t as graceful. When he got hit, Stacy said his number.
“Agility 48.”
“That’s six more than what Hannah got,” Henry whispered to Jareth.
Damion and Stacy went to the drum. Earth lifted and surrounded Damion’s right arm and a pink glow surrounded it. Damion swung his hand smashing it into the drum. A loud bang resounded around the area. The number on the screen said 65.
His number was ten above Hannah’s number. As far as I can tell, Damion has three abilities being earth, Emma’s emotion love power, and foresight. Damion used earth and the love power to hit the drum. Adding Emma’s strength with Hannah’s strength equaled 65. Even if Damion has the same power as Emma and Hannah, he should’ve had a different score. It was like he copied what they did… is his Evolved power that he can copy? Then what was the energy that the system kept talking about?
When Jareth snapped out of his thoughts, Damion was already in the ring. His eyes were normal, so he wasn’t using his foresight ability. This was because Damion wanted to see how good he was naturally. He lasted for a decent amount of time but just like the others he too got hit. He didn’t last as long as Hannah though.
“Dexterity 36,” Stacy said. “On your Forwatch it will be marked as having the abilities of manipulate the emotion of love, earth, and telekinesis at the same level as Hannah’s and Emma’s.” Stacy paused and frowned. “Why did you not just tell me your Evolved power?” Stacy wanted to know.
“My family wants to keep it a secret for as long as I can, and what I displayed is not what my ability really is,” Damion responded like he had been asked this question a lot. “I’ll reveal it in due time.”
“Fine,” Stacy said half-heartedly. She really wanted to know what a Youngblood’s power was, but she’ll just have to wait. “That concludes the tests. Wait for a moment while I finalize the results,” she said as she started to type away.
Jareth was now just wondering how he could get stronger faster. That is when his system activated.
“You really want to grow stronger, do you? Then the system shall grant your request. Dangerous quest received: absorb one of each Evolved books in the bins. Bonus quest: don’t get caught. Reward: instant level up to be used at any time plus the exp granted from each absorption.”
Jareth looked at the bins and the guards were standing around it. It was too close to do anything. Before Jareth could come up with a plan Damion had walked up to him.
“Did you see what I did,” he said excitedly. “I showed up Hannah, didn’t I, Jareth?”
“Yea,” Jareth said. “Can I ask you a question, Damion?”
“Anything.”
“Can you copy people’s abilities?”
Damion’s smile got bigger. “I knew I would like you.” He chuckled then continued in a whisper. “I can copy three abilities, but I can only use two at a time. But I can use the Evo cells of the other abilities to make the others stronger. I can only hold the Evolved powers for half a day. Though the best who can do this is my great grandma. She is strong with her Evolved power and with that it allowed her to live longer than she should of. My energy also helps as well with this.” Once he finished, he stood up to face Stacy and let Jareth go back into his thoughts.
Evo cells are cells that allow humans to be able to use an ability. The more the cells can be cooperative with each other the more Evolved powers a person can learn. The more Evo cells a person has the more powerful the person was. Damion’s cells were made fluent with each other when he learned how to copy people’s ability. Fluent enough that he can copy three different abilities and the amount of active Evo cells that the person has.
I knew it, Jareth thought. He did copy their Evolved power, though only three. That still makes Damion very versatile. Only being able to hold it for half a day. Why did he tell me this? He didn’t tell the school, but he told me. Why? I guess he is just being nice but now I just need to make sure that I don’t spill his secrets. He mentioned energy. I’m not going to ask him about it so soon.
Now I just need to figure out how I’m going to get those three evolved books. Or maybe I just don’t risk it and just go on without completing this quest. Before he could decide Madison had stepped in front of Jareth.
“Hi… Jareth,” she said awkwardly, moving her curly hair to the side. The smoke in her eyes had disappeared, revealing beautiful hazel eyes that made Jareth’s heart skip a beat.
“Hello, Madison,” Jareth replied while wondering why she had come up to him.
“I was just wondering why you didn’t take one of the Evolved books.” She asked with a curious face.
That was not what he was expecting her to ask, but he answered anyway. “Accepting the Evolved book meant that I would belong to the Military Faction. If I wanted to get strong, I would have to serve them, so I can get higher level books.”
The response that Jareth said was true, but the main reason that he didn’t take the book was because the Draven System said that he couldn’t learn the ability. Before he had gotten the system, Jareth was in fact going to take one of the books. The reason being that he was willing to submit his loyalty for the power, but now he didn’t need to do that.
Madison looked at him with slight admiration. She liked the fact that Jareth didn’t want to be controlled under anybody. She was still wondering why Jareth was sweating and slumped over, as if it were 120 degrees out and he hadn’t had water in a while. She was concerned for him and had to ask.
“Are you ok?” Madison asked. “You look like you haven’t had rest for days.” She said this with worry in her eyes.
“I’m fine,” Jareth insisted.
Of course he was technically fine. The sun was causing him to be weakened but he was thankful that he had drank that water or he could have been in trouble.
Madison looked like she was about to say something else when a huge explosion sounded in the distance. Everyone turned to look out into the distance, and they could see a dome of fire. Right next to the fire dome was a small blue shield.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
Stacy took a couple steps forward and her expression was one of excitement.
“Looks like we have a strong one this year,” Stacy said with a huge smile plastered on her face. “I’m going to guess that student’s power level for that ability is a ten, and he just did that? Powerful enough that the guards had to use their dome powers to shield the students.”
A small wave of dust was heading in their direction. The guards had moved forward their fingertips glowed as a light blue shield appeared in front of them and the smoke wave hit the shield stopping it dead in its tracks.
Jareth noticed that Stacy and her guards had moved away from the Evolved book bins, while the others walked past them, admiring the explosion. Madison hesitated for a moment still looking at Jareth, but eventually had walked over to the others.
This is my chance, Jareth thought. I can get the books and get stronger. I need to quickly do this before the others would notice me.
Jareth moved quickly but sluggishly made his way to the bins. He went to the left bin that contained the plant Evolved book. He leaned over and picked up one of the books. That’s when his system activated displaying a screen in front of his face.
“Level 1 plant Evolved book in possession. Error: unable to learn ability. Would you like to convert the Evolved species book into 10 exp? Yes or no.”
Species? Jareth wondered. What does it mean by species? Oh, well.
Jareth pushed that thought aside as he selected yes on his screen. That’s when his screen disappeared, and a small amount of energy came out of the book and went up his arms and into his chest. Right after, the book looked dead like the very life itself had vanished.
“10 exp has been gained. 20 of 25 exp.”
Jareth put the book back in the bin and looked up. Nobody was paying attention to him. They were still looking at the smoke cloud that was starting to disperse. Jareth returned his attention and grabbed an Evolved book from the middle bin.
“Level 1 water Evolved book in possession. Error: unable to learn ability. Would you like to convert the book into 10 exp? Yes or no.”
Jareth selected yes and the same thing happened. The screen disappeared and the energy from the book traveled into his body.
“10 exp has been gained. 30 of 25 exp. You have reached the amount of exp needed to evolve.”
A miniature screen popped up on the bottom right side of his line of vision.
“Would you like to evolve into a Quarterblood? Yes, or no? After evolution, changes are irreversible.”
Jareth briefly looked at the choice and noticed the word irreversible, but decided that he could look at it after he was done with this quest. So, Jareth didn’t select an answer because he wanted to get the last Evolved book.
He quickly moved to the next bin and picked up the wind Evolved book.
“Level 1 wind Evolved book in possession. Error: unable to learn ability. Would you like to convert the Evolved species book into 10 exp? Yes or no.”
Again, Jareth had selected yes, and the energy was transferred from the book into his body.
“10 exp has been gained. 40 of 25 exp.”
A smile was plastered on his face.
I was able to pull it off. Now I just need to act like everything is normal and look at this new evolve thing.
Jareth looked up and his eyes met with Madison’s hazel eyes. His heart immediately started to beat wildly in his chest. Everyone was still watching the smoke clouds as they began to fade, but Madison seemed to have gotten bored. She turned around and saw Jareth trying to take the wind Evolved book. She didn’t see the fact that Jareth had absorbed the energy from the book into his body. She was looking at Jareth like he had gone mad. Jareth dropped the book into the bin. He looked at her with pleading eyes and mouthed “please don’t say anything.”
Jareth hoped that Madison wouldn’t say anything, but why should she? They weren’t friends or family.
I’m so done for, Jareth thought. I’m going to go to jail in some remote place for what I tried to do. Honestly, I’ll probably just have some punishment, but I don’t want to start the year looking like a criminal.
They both stared at each other and Jareth’s heart was beating wildly in his chest, but before he could do anything to stop Madison from saying anything his system activated.
“You have exceeded the amount of energy represented in exp for this body. Initiating forced evolution.”
That’s when his body had tensed up and he collapsed right next to the bins. His body felt like 100 hands were aggressively massaging him. He twitched and turned trying to shake this feeling off but couldn’t.
You got to be kidding me; Jareth shouted at his system internally. What is happening to me and not at a time like this. This is literally the worst possible situation.
Madison stared at him for a moment before looking at the others who were still preoccupied with the explosion that had happened earlier. She thought that Jareth was overheated, and that he was having heat cramps. Why would he try to steal an Evolved book, Madison wondered? They were going to give it to him. He seemed like a nice person. Madison pondered a little about what to do with him. If I help him, maybe he can be useful to me. Madison had made up her mind. She would help him now and ask questions later. She then walked up to Jareth. She leaned over grabbing him under his arms and dragged him away from the bins.
The feeling intensified as she dragged him away. Jareth wasn’t sure if this was because she was dragging him away or not.
Madison let go of his body and Jareth fell on the ground still in his tensed-up state. She then leaned over his body and proceeded to whisper in his ear.
“You owe me one.”
Madison stood up and was now looking at Jareth from his left side. Jareth tried his best to nod. Madison noticed what Jareth did and gave him a big smile like he had just gifted her a car. She pulled out a small water bottle and shoved it in Jareth’s mouth. Madison made him drink the whole thing before throwing the bottle close to the bins. She then sat beside him leaning on her palms that she placed behind her.
After a moment the aggressive massaging feeling disappeared completely. Jareth sat up but he felt like he was struggling harder than before, but before he could think about it more he was met by the system’s new notifications and a screen popped up in his face.
“Congratulations, you have successfully evolved into a Quarterblood. A Quarterblood is 25% vampire and 75% human. You are now at level 2. 15 of 40 exp for next level up. 2 stat points have been granted. HP has increased by 5. HP: 15. You have successfully completed your quest. Even though you got caught you somehow successfully convinced her to not report you. Bonus quest don’t get caught: completed. Reward: instant level up to be used anytime.”
25% vampire! Jareth thought with alarm. Va… vampire! Those mythical creatures that drink blood and… and… and.
Meanwhile, Jareth was unaware that on the outside it looked like he was just staring in a random direction with wild eyes. Madison noticed this. She looked in the direction that he was staring at but when she didn’t see anything she turned her head back to face Jareth. She looked into his dark blue eyes, but it looked like he was looking at a ghost.
Meanwhile Jareth was reading the next notifications as the system was reading them.
“Since you are now a Quarterblood all stats are reduced by 40% while in direct sunlight. You are now in direct sunlight; all stats will be reduced by 40%. HP: 9 of 9. Strength: 6 of 6. Stamina: 6 of 6. Agility; 6 of 6. Dexterity: 2 of 2.”
Jareth silently cursed under his breath while he tensed up his face in anger. Why is this weakness so bad. I just hope that when it says that I am 100% vampire that I won’t instantly die when I walk in the sun. Jareth shuddered at this thought. The Draven System carried on with its message.
“New skill available under the skills tab. This skill was previously added from Project System.”
Well at least I finally have a skill.
Jareth selected the tab that was called the skills tab. A screen popped up that showed a single skill under the unlocked section.
“Blood slice: a skill developed from the vampire Draven that will fire out a red line of energy from the hand in a claw shape. Minus 1 Blood Energy (B E). Error: not at a high enough level. Minus 5 B E until you are at level 3.”
Blood slice, Jareth thought in confusion. I hope it’s just the name, I mean, I am supposedly 25% vampire now so it may not be a stretch. Well, that’s at least a bonus from what I had before, Jareth thought. There is that name again, Draven. He must have been a well-known figure in the vampire world. When I got the Draven System, it said his last name. What was it?
He paused, trying to remember what the message said before he passed out. He tried harder, but it just seemed like a blur, only remembering bits and pieces. The name was not one of them. Jareth decided not to think about things he couldn't remember. He continued to think about the blood skill developed by this Draven.
I wonder why it takes 5 B E instead of 1 B E. Maybe I got this skill before I should have, so the system is compensating for it? He didn’t really know, but all he did know was that he was definitely more exhausted than before. He heard the name Draven again, but he could only assume that this Draven was a scientist.
Jareth opened the stats tab and saw the 2 available stat points that was available to him. Well right now besides Madison knowing what I did, the sun is my number one problem. I’m guessing that the military is going to do things outside, and I don’t want to look weak. So, I need to increase stats that will help me fight the sun.
Jareth looked at the stats page which displayed his stats that he can use his two stat points on. Strength, Stamina, Agility, and Dexterity. Well agility and dexterity won’t help me to fight off the negative effects of the sun. Strength can be used to keep me standing and stamina for how long I can last. After pondering for a moment Jareth decided to put one stat in Strength and the other stat in stamina so now, he would have 11 in both Strength and Stamina if he was out of the sun.
“What are you looking at?” Madison asked. “Don’t go passing out on me now, you owe me one.”
Jareth quickly closed his screen and looked at Madison.
“Why did you not report me?” Jareth asked slightly worried what Madison might ask of him.
She just smiled, she clearly was not going to say why she didn’t report him, which made Jareth more nervous.
“What’s up with you being under the sun?” She asked while lifting her hand to point at the sun and placing her hand back. “Are you a vampire or something.
Jareth froze in his spot. Could she possibly know what I have? Nah. He looked at Madison, who was watching him strangely. I need to make up something.
“I have a condition within my family that makes me weak under sunlight.” Jareth said trying to keep his voice from shaking.
Her eyes narrowed and looked him up and down. Then a smirk went across her face.
“Well, that sucks for you,” the smirk disappeared, and a smile returned to her face.
That’s when Stacy and the rest of the students walked back to them.
“I see that you two had gotten bored,” Stacy said. “It is time to go to the Military school now.
“Yes!” Damion shouted. “I can’t wait.”
“Get in the square for the teleportation device,” Stacy ordered.
Everyone started to make their way to the square that went around the teleportation device. Jareth tried to stand up and stumbled. Damion and Madison noticed this and both of them grabbed Jareth to support him. Damion looked at Madison like she wasn’t allowed to do this. She noticed that Damion was looking at her funny.
“What?” Madison asked, her hazel eyes went back to being covered in a black mist. “I can’t help out a friend?”
“Cambion energy detected,” the system notified Jareth once more. “Threat level: low. No action needed.”
Great, Jareth thought. A Nephilim, a Cambion, and now I’m part vampire. What’s next, that a powerful empire is after me?
“You all of a sudden became friends with him?” Damion asked.
“So did you,” Madison countered.
Jareth cut in. “It’s fine Damion. Thanks both of you.”
They both looked at each other one last time before helping Jareth over to the box.
“You will be teleported over to the Military Academy and Robert will be there to help escort you to your rooms.” Stacy then nodded at her right guard who stepped into the square and turned the dial.
The area glowed yellow the surrounding changed once more.
