Prologue

  A resounding knock emanating from a set of thick darkly stained wooden doors embossed with two serpentine dragons, one gold the other silver entwining as they rose to the heavens passes through the richly appointed office of heavy wood furniture carved by the hands of expert craftsman. “Enter” a resonate voice full of authority answered the knock. An older man entered the room closing the doors behind him before bowing “My Prince.” A powerful flash of aura full of discontent came from the other man, sending the older man to his knees kowtowing “Forgive me, Governor Tan.” “Rise and report, Administrator Huang Yi.” Governor Tan lazily waved his hand at Administrator Huang Yi. Standing Administrator Huang Yi looked at his liege, a young man with pale perfect skin with long jet-black hair like silk, staring out of the offices window into the Capital of Heaven’s Landing, clearing his throat Administrator Huang Yi begins his report.

  “I have received the report from the investigators sent to discover what happened in Barrin’s fist, I also have reports that various spirit beasts are threatening the roads, and I have a report on Mya’s training progress.” Administrator Huang Yi finishes. “Begin with Barrin’s Fist, then the spirit beasts.” Governor Tan orders.

  Clearing his throat Administrator Huang Yi begins “The investigation found that seventy percent of the town has burned down, the inciters were identified to be a cell of the resistance movement.” Raising his hand for Administrator Huang Yi to stop “Seventy percent? And the resistance has core cultivators? How else could they kill Barrin and his goons.” Governor Tan says to himself.

  Turning from the window “Structurally how is the town?” “The wall is undamaged, the main building of the barracks was destroyed, most of the housing has been destroyed. The estimated cost to rebuild is five thousand gold taels.” Administrator Huang Yi replies. “Distribute the funds needed, that town is still needed as a trade and military post. What about the spirit beasts?” Governor Tan asks. “There have been multiple reports across the region of spirit beast attacks, they have been attacking villages and merchants.” Administrator Huang Yi answers. “Perhaps we should announce the tournament and put in an initial qualification be spirit beast cores, that should encourage the sect and school’s cultivators to leave the safety of their compounds.” Governor Tan remarks.

  Bowing deeply “Your wisdom is deep Governor Tan. The preparations for the tournament are moving swiftly, sending out notices of it will be easily managed. Administrator Huang Yi exclaims.

  With a small smile on his lips “How is Mya’s training coming along?” Governor Tan asks with interest. “Her training is exceptional, she will likely reach core formation by the end of the week, at fourteen she is an amazing talent. Her martial teachers have nothing but praise for her determination and skill. The young mistress will be a powerful cultivator, the Governor has an eye for talent.” Administrator Huang Yi fawns at Governor Tan. “Core formation by the end of the week, I will have to buy her a present to reward her for such dedication, and to let he know she will be able to participate in the tournament.” Governor Tan says with a proud smile on his face.
