Chapter 395

When his fist descended, just in time to meet the incoming attack, the world seemed to go still. A wave of green met a wave of nothingness, and the air began to ionize, torn apart at the atomic level by the sheer power warring for dominion over the area. Jonathan was connected to it by a thread of elemental control, and he made sure to continuously pump as much power as he could into it. Still, he was facing a pinnacle existence for this realm, and even with all of his bonuses, he was unable to break through.

His flesh began to sizzle as tendrils of corruption made their way through, seeking to mutate his body. There was nothing else to do, save for using his stockpile of free stat points. From his leveling, he had an utterly immense amount saved up, almost a thousand in fact. It was time to shore up some of his more laggardly stats.

First came Intelligence, with an injection of 198 stat points, portioned out for maximum impact. His mana pool surged, and his attack slowly started to gain ground. However, it stabilized a few moments later. He was still too weak.

He did the same for Strength, and power flooded his body, his sinews and bones clenching as the raw might of a mountain seemed to enter his form.Stamina poured from him like water, and finally, he was able to break the deadlock. Bolstered by Smite, his stats were through the roof, and his Maw of the Void started to crack through the wave of mutation, bending it backwards with its sheer strength.

The Shard of Slothari’s eyes widened, barely visible through the haze of energy. Then its skill cracked in half like a breaking bone, and the Void claimed the territory for its own.

As the titan of flesh rose to its full height, its master was sent hurtling back across the ground, a massive wound etched into its torso by Jonathan’s strike. The monster let out a roar, and acting on an order from the Shard, it charged the Uthraki lines, each footstep shaking the ground. With a brief moment of respite, Jonathan checked his stat sheet, to see how far his invested points had brought him.

He had always thought it a bit odd that his sheet always displayed him in the peak of health and power in terms of resources. Perhaps that signified that the System was intended to be a tool, and not to supplant one’s own bodily wisdom.

He closed his sheet and watched as the titan of loosely formed flesh and bone thundered across the ground. Each step took it crossed dozens of feet. Jonathan clenched his fist and hurled himself across the ground, his feet snapping a rapid tempo against the volcanic rock of the realm’s floor. Cracks spread across the land as he broke through the sound barrier again and again, not willing to let the monster reach his allies. He leaped at the last moment, like a comet of purple fire. Barely visible, he was a streak in the dim light of the realm. The titan tried to swat him out of the air, moving surprisingly quickly for such a massive creature. However, it could not hope to grasp the Void.

Jonathan’s fist cracked into the monster’s bulbous chin like a cruise missile, filled with every ounce of his strength and power. Stamina roiled along his arm as he punched, lifting his strength to immense heights.

At the moment of impact, he was channeling enough potency to take out a small mountain. Unfortunately, this monster was made out of Tier 3 flesh, and not out of simple stone. As a result, rather than its head exploding in a torrent of gore, it was simply knocked off its feet, its jaw vanishing into a spray of bone fragments. As it fell to the ground, Jonathan jetted down upon a wave of Void energy and mana, falling from the sky like divine judgment. Divinity sparked around his form, and his fist led the way. When he landed, it was with the force of a meteor.

Flesh exploded outwards as his fist slammed into the monster’s torso, and its massive ribs snapped into splinters. A small earthquake shuddered across the land. As the giant lay there, floundering, the Uthraki let out a massed roar and charged in, laying into the monster with their weapons. Blood flew everywhere, and the warriors began to reap a bloody toll.

Before Jonathan could muster the power to finish off the beast, he was suddenly picked up off his feet by a wave of force. He twisted in midair to see the Shard of Slothari facing him, all of its hands stretched out, and a rictus grin of fury on its face.

Waves of energy danced around it, and it seemed to have converted its mutation related abilities into an expression of pure force. With a sonic boom, it blasted forwards, its seemingly weak body containing immense strength. It was the remnant of one of the strongest beings at the Tier, if not the strongest, and it had been able to grow for untold centuries in the rich hunting grounds of Tartarus. By no means was it a pushover.
