The Celestial Realm
It had been five hundred years since Gu Mingyu had been forced to tolerate the annoying existence that was Zhao Yuwen. And in these five hundred years, Gu Mingyu had over one hundred, ten thousand attempts and failed each and every time.
It is with this failure that he, the mighty all-powerful, above all and below no one, Ruler of the Demon Realm, who dared to threaten to chop off the head of the Heavenly Emperor himself, Demon God, Gu Mingyu had been forced to enter the Celestial Realm and become the horse of the dog of an Emperor.
An insult of the very pride of his existence!
“Ah Yu.” A sickly sweet voice that Gu Mingyu dreaded hearing had spoken, “I brought snacks, I figured you would be hungry after dealing with all these memorials, which I really feel bad about…”
Gu Mingyu's right eye twitched, as his face formed a small smile on his face. “You are so right, I am hungry especially after doing all the work you are supposed to do.”
Your Majesty, Was the thoughts of the servants who witnessed the smile, He is going to cut you into a thousand pieces! Run for your life!
“I figured as much.” Zhao Yuwen replied, “I know my Ah Yu the best, you would never do something horrible as rejecting me.”
“Ahahahaha.” Gu Mingyu’s smile became wider and wider, “Of course, I would never do something like that, it’s not like you have meddled and annoyed me for the last five hundred years and wish to murder you in the name of the grudge I have held against you…”
“Ah Yu, you and I both know that while you might’ve tried to murder me on several occasions, deep down inside you have a tiny bit of love for me otherwise you wouldn’t have saved me back then wouldn’t you?”
Slam!
Gu Mingyu turned his head to face Zhao Yuwen directly as the smile lowered and with such a straight face, he replied with.
“The only reason I saved you is because I refused to allow another to kill you, it would be against my very nature if I let such a pathetic useless piece of dog shit upstage me.”
Zhao Yuwen leaned in, with his blue sky eyes blinked as he pecked a little kiss on Gu Mingyu’s lips before letting out a small giggle.
“I know how prideful you are, Ah Yu. Especially considering you would never admit that you saved me because you love me, and if you did, I would be afraid that the world is truly ending.”
“Y-You!-” He, Gu Mingyu did not blush at all and felt even more insulted with the accusation spoken by Zhao Yuwen, “You dare slander me! Zhao Yuwen! You wish to die a long and painful death!”
“Oh, Ah Yu, if you were capable of such a thing you would’ve done it the first time we met.” Zhao Yuwen leaned further in to lay on Gu Mingyu’s shoulder, “Back then in the Capital, when I was the head of the Supernatural Invesgation Department, it had been snowing. You had arrived with an umbrella in tow, scheming whatever you had been scheming at the time. I hadn’t even established a proper foundation, let alone capable of wielding my family sword, if you had even used a fourth of your power, you could’ve ended me right there and then.”
Gu Mingyu used his left finger to push Zhao Yuwen off his shoulder, “I had intended to kill you back then, it had been unfournate that my power had been sealed. That stupid old lady had been meddling in affairs she shouldn’t have meddled with, insisting a chosen one can’t be killed, a chosen one can’t be defeated so easily.”
“Old Lady?”
“Never mind her, she isn’t even alive anymore.” Gu Mingyu picked up a small cake to eat, “In any case if you continue to make me work like a horse, I am going back to the Demon Realm and going to rule there, at least I won’t have to worry about such skittering pathetic servants who threaten to piss themselves every time I move, let alone speak, and let alone form a small smile.”
“But I like when you smile.”
“And that makes me wonder if your brain cells died off in the womb to produce such an idiot like you.” Gu Mingyu replied, “Especially with your mother, such a smart and cunning person, worthy of being more scheming than Thousand-year-old Fox Demons and she managed to produce such an idiot son like you must’ve returbtion from a sin of a past life.”
“But you're the one who fell in love with me, so what does that make you?”
. . .
. . .
. . .
“Be quiet if you don’t want to sleep on the floor for the next six hundred years.”
“Of course.”
Gu Mingyu had softly sighed while pressing his head, trying to ease the pain he suffered from having another conversation with Zhao Yuwen. How did he develop such patience in the first place? Back then he used to be so ruthless, cunning, ill-tempered and….
“Come out.”
And with the steps being heard, the one who had come out of the shadows was Su Qingqing. She was considered a legendary beauty of the Three Realms and Four Seas and even after Five hundred years of knowing her, Gu Mingyu had never seen her show a single interest in a man, women, or anyone and remained being a loyal dog to Zhao Yuwen, aiding in preventing him killing the airheaded moron who had the fortune of the Heavens itself.
“Your Majesty, Your Servant Su Qingqing greets you.” Su Qingqing kneeled before Zhao Yuwen, “May Your Majesty live ten thousand years.”
“Oh, I really am just Emperor in name.” Zhao Yuwen replied, “Personally I think Ah Yu is the one who truly aiding me in everything and the true brains behind it all.”
“Of course.” Su Qingqing rose as she straightened herself, “In truth, Your Majesty. Your Servant has something to confess, and may Your Majesty understand.”
“What do you have to confess?”
“Your Servant had fallen in love with Your Majesty centuries ago.” Su Qingqing explained, “That day when Your Servant was returning back to the Capital, and had been attacked, Your Servant had known then—I, desired Your Majesty.”
Gu Mingyu nearly choked to death from the mere shock of what had been confessed aloud let alone the fact that Su Qingqing, the literal Ice Queen, would fall in with such an idiot like Zhao Yuwen.
(Disregarding the accusation of Gu Mingyu himself also falling in love with said idiot, he would never dignify the possible insult that came from it)
“Oh.” Zhao Yuwen said, “But I don’t love you at all, if anything I viewed you as an annoying dog that would cling to me and follow me around like you had nothing better to do with your life.”
Oh, the irony upon that statement is not lost in vain.
“I am aware of Your Majesty’s devotion to this—demon, this vile monster, this illicit shameless seducing dog who clinged to Your Majesty and deceived Your Majesty.”
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
“I deceived him?” Gu Mingyu anger risen as his eye twitching became worse, “This, idiot had the galls to pretend himself dying a slow and painful death and make think another had succeed in ending his life just so he could get me alone in the room and pin me down in bed to bite my precious shoulder! Such a humiliation could never be forgotten and you dare to say I deceived him!”
“You even dare to boast about it so shamelessly! I, Su Qingqing in the name of the Three Realms shall slay you and put down the greatest evil ever birthed since the beginning of time itself!”
She pulled out her sword, and without hesitation decided to strike Gu Mingyu aiming right for his heart, when he caught it with two of his fingers and then threw her aside as result to be landing against the wall, and smashed into it.
“I would suggest putting some effort into your strikes and stop holding back, you and I both know you're more capable than what you are presenting right now, Su Qingqing.”
“Wait, wait, Ah Yu! You can’t fight here; you're going to destroy everything here!-”
“Zhao Yuwen.” Gu Mingyu’s voice became cold, “I have not had a challenge in at least ten years where I am capable of not holding back for fearing they would die quickly, I am not wasting this opportune, do you understand?”
“I-I understand.”
“Good, and Zhao Yuwen.”
“Yes?”
Gu Mingyu lowered his voice, as he said, “In the end, despite you annoying my existence, giving me literal grey hairs and perhaps making my blood pressure be high and occasionally make me want to slit your throat in your sleep. I suppose I had taken the slightest pleasure of being with you, whether as enemy, friend, and eventual lover, even if you insisted on being top for dual cultivation and having no idea what it meant at the time.”
“A-Ah Yu, why does this sound like a love confession?” Zhao Yuwen's voice raised with alarm, “The last time you made a love confession towards me, you….”
“In the end, even the Demon God must have their end, and while I failed to end you, Chosen One, Son of the Heavens and Favored.” Gu Mingyu replied, “At least now you weren’t the worst person I could’ve encountered, even if you were the most annoying. I mean seriously, who gives their lover the affectionate nickname given to themselves?”
“What is that supposed to mean—-”
Gu Mingyu hopped off the desk and summoned his sword, and charged off with the smallest genuine smile on his face. As Su Qingqing got herself off the wall and charged back as the swords clashed, and cultivation slowly rose as a result in power clashing.
“If you were in love with Zhao Yuwen this whole time, why didn’t you confess to him back before he even met me? Didn’t you meet him first?”
“You think I didn’t want to? Back then I was the unfavored Legimate daughter, my father favored the concubine and his concubine-daughter, wishing to treat me like a tool and made me seem like nothing more than bad luck!”
“Mu Fenghua was the same way, and she raised herself to become the Princess and eventual Queen of the Phoenix tribe.” Gu Mingyu replied, “I don’t see how you could struggle, you could’ve exposed your father for favoring concubine over Wife, or exposed his numerous crimes, or using your position of being the legitimate daughter to be recommended to become Zhao Yuwen’s wife.”
“Y-You—” Clang! “You dare to mock me! You are one to speak! How did someone so shameless, so useless and so arrogant, cut-throat and without a single bit of heart dared to worm his way in and gain everything anyone could ever desire!”
“And you thought it was easy?”
“I-I—”
“I was considered a cursed omen from birth, abandoned by my parents and thrown off the cliff. Back then if it wasn’t for my Shizun, I would’ve died a heartful death, and my corpse would've been devoured by the wolves.”
“I-I—”
“Such a talented person like you had so much potential to become into a sect, become to prosper, and even be favored as the Daughter of Fate, but in the blindness of gaining someone who didn’t even admit your existence or wished to be with you—” Gu Mingyu’s grip on his sword tightened, “You had the galls to use the innocent as stepping stones and ended the lives of many and you think I would’ve forgotten?”
“W-Who are you talking about?”
“My Shizun1, Su Qingmei.” Gu Mingyu said, “Or had you forgotten that little sisters of yours you left to die and be slaughtered in the name of rightstouness.”
“I-Impossible!-” Stab!
The Sword had been plunged right through Su Qingqing’s heart, as she collapsed to the ground.
“My Shizun always talked about how kind you were, how you were the best sister in the world and the only one who could understand her the most and in the end, she was the most naive, and most kind, not anything like you.”
Gu Mingyu had collapsed onto his knee, using his sword as a weight to lean on.
“A-Ah Yu, what did you do?”
“I got revenge on the final person who owed me.” Gu Mingyu replied, “But in the end the consequences are going to be on me, so don’t be worried about it.”
“What is that supposed to mean—”
“GU MINGYU! YOU DARE TO KILL A DAUGHTER OF HEAVEN AND DARE TO TAMPER WITH THE WAYS OF THE HEAVENS IT’S SELF, YOU SHALL BE PUNISHED FOR SUCH A TRECHERY!”
“And go figure the Old Lady isn’t dead after all.” Gu Mingyu snorted, “I suppose she has been waiting for a long time, waiting for this opportunity to finally get rid of me, guess I should’ve known better.”
“Excuse me, why are you trying to punish Ah Yu for getting rid of Su Qingqing, it’s not like he didn’t do it out of unjust means. He did it to get revenge for his Shizun, and honestly even if he didn’t do it, I would’ve done it myself since I liked his Shizun as well. She was such a nice friend, and even more supportive in me falling in love with Ah Yu.”
“I-I, YOU WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO FALL IN LOVE WITH GU MINGYU ANYWAYS! YOU TWO WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ENEMIES AND SU QINGMEI WAS SUPPOSED TO DIE! WHY ARE YOU NOT FOLLOWING THE PLOT! WHY….”
“Plot?”
Gu Mingyu raised himself, slightly wobbly as he tried to focus himself. “What she means is this entire world is a novel, or rather a web-series, in fact she is the Author of this Work, and basically the creator of this world.”
“Huh?”
“HOW DO YOU KNOW SUCH THINGS! NONE OF MY CHARCTERS WERE SUPPOSED TO BECOME SELF-AWARE, IT’S IMPOSSIBLE, THE SYSTEM PROMISED ME!--”
“It’s because I am not the original Gu Mingyu, I transmigrated into this novel, Five hundred years ago. And as for that pathetic system of yours, I shattered it upon the first time it realized I was not the original self.” Gu Mingyu interjected, “And while I hated the idea that I ended up being trapped in a dead-brained majorly OP love novel with a cultivation setting in the background, I had come to realize that they were actually people and not just words strung together.”
“Oh, that makes sense now.”
“What do you mean that makes sense?”
“The day you appeared I realized something had changed, no longer was the world so predictable, but alive and changed.” Zhao Yuwen remarked, “I of course didn’t know you, transmigrated but I assumed you finally gained a bit of a brain, if anything else.”
“I don’t know whether to be impressed or insulted—-”
“REGARDLESS OF WHAT OCCURED YOU HAVE SCREWED UP WITH MY PRESIOUS ROMANCE WORLD AND I REFUSE TO ALLOW MY CHARACTERS TO BE SELF-AWARE AND THUS YOU MUST BE PURGED SO I BEGIN A NEW AND REWRITE THE STORY I HAD INTENDED—”
“No, thank you.” Zhao Yuwen interjected, “I would prefer not to be purged and rewritten to how you fancy it. It’s not very nice and also, I am the Heavenly Emperor, whatever I choose to do becomes law.”
In that moment the Heavens had been shattered, and the voice of the Old Lady became no more, but Gu Mingyu already started feeling the effects, and coughed up a whole puddle worth of blood. With this weakening had caused his grip to loosen on his sword and to be caught in the arms of Zhao Yuwen.
“Ah Yu…”
“If you're going to cry right now, stab me to end this suffering of seeing you cry, because you are so ugly when you cry.”
“Y-You can’t even say something nice to me even when you are dying in my arms, can’t you?”
“Alright.” Gu Mingyu sighed, “When I meant about the nickname thing, I meant to tell you that Ah Yu was the nickname I intended to give you to you.”
“R-Really?”
“But then I thought it would be so confusing, so I came up with another nickname, even if it’s not fitting for someone younger than me.” Gu Mingyu’s voice became softer and softer, “The nickname I came up for you is ...Lao Wen.”
“I-I—-” Zhao Yuwen sniffled as his tears kept dropping down especially on Gu Mingyu’s cheeks, “I love it.”
“I figured you would, for such a sap like you.”
“Ah Yu…”
“You know I never thought dying a second time would be so much more painful then the first time.” Gu Mingyu said, “And I died the first time while choking on a meat bun that was supposed to poison me to death is even worse.”
His vision was getting worse, more and more blurry. As the last words he heard was…
“Don’t worry, Ah Yu. I will make sure next time, you get a chance to live for yourself and perhaps, get a true happy ending.”
Gu Mingyu wished he could’ve sighed in that moment, because he had a feeling that Zhao Yuwen was about to do something really stupid. And in this instance, he could do nothing to stop him, since he was dead.
