Chapter 22: A Wave of Calm

Chapter 22: A Wave of Calm

Su Qing's brain was racing at high speed, she had to find a foolproof way.

Wolves are nocturnal, have a keen sense of smell and good hearing. They are cruel and vigilant in nature, extremely skilled at running, often using the tactic of exhausting their prey to obtain food. However, wolves also have something they fear, which is fire.

The bonfire that had risen at dusk had long been extinguished, and Su Qing thought of starting a torch. Even if it couldn't drive away the pack of wolves, at least it could guarantee safety for a short period of time.

"Who has a lighter on them?" Su Qing asked aloud. If someone had one, that would be best; if not, Su Qing had a plan.

"I've got it. You're all idiots, forgetting that wolves are afraid of fire." Zhang Mingyu hastily pulled out a lighter. Now he thought himself too stupid and slapped his own head.

"But we don't have anything to burn." Cui Zihao looked around and saw that there were no branches on the ground either.

"Take off your coat and pick up a branch to tie it on." Su Chen couldn't bear to see someone stupidly worrying about not having anything to burn. He took off his own coat, picked up a branch and tied it on. Zhang Mingyu quickly gathered over to light the fire.

Guo Wenjiao had heard that Cui's grandson was not very bright, but she didn't believe it before. Today, she finally saw it for herself. Suddenly, she noticed that Cui Zihao's pocket was bulging, as if he had something inside.

"Chui Zi Hao, what are you carrying in your pocket?" Guo Wenjiao's tone was like a superior officer questioning a soldier.

"Signal flares, aren't they very important? That's why I always carry them with me." Chui Zi Hao replied proudly, completely unaware that someone was about to erupt like a volcano.

"You damn fool, isn't everyone in danger yet? You're still holding onto the signal flare and not sending it out. What are you waiting for?" Zhou Yang was really furious. Cui's kid usually made some small mistakes, but at critical moments, he would also mess up. He even had a fancy name, but what was there to be proud of? Everyone's lives were on the line, yet he still wouldn't use the signal flare.

Zhou Yang saw that Cui Zihao had not acted yet, and his anger surged up. He heavily slapped the other's head and snatched away the signal flare. The red signal flare shot up into the air, standing out so clearly in the dark of night. It was everyone's hope.

The torches made from military uniforms did not disperse the wolf pack, but they retreated slightly and stopped attacking. These wolves were very intelligent, seemingly waiting for the moment when the firelight that scared them would disappear. Everyone was temporarily safe, and now everyone hoped that the rescue team could arrive as soon as possible.

Wolves are a species with strong group consciousness. In a pack of wolves, the most outstanding and strongest one will become the leader of other wolves in this group, also known as the alpha wolf.

Su Qing released her divine consciousness, observing the surroundings. She was searching for a wolf that could serve as the leader of the entire pack. Su Qing firmly believed that if she subdued the most important wolf, the pack would collapse on its own. Su Qing discovered, not far away on a small mound, a slightly larger wolf standing with its head raised. It looked more ferocious and dangerous than the other wolves. Su Qing was convinced that this was her target.

Su Qing's eyes met the green, wolf-like eyes. Su Qing was fearless, and with a mere thought, she could capture the head wolf into her space. However, doing so might attract unwanted attention, as an object suddenly disappearing in front of someone would be unbelievable. Su Qing decided to subdue it instead, and a single mental attack would render the revered head wolf into a foolish one. If no rescue team arrived by the time the torches burned out, Su Qing had made up her mind to disable the wolves' command center.

Su Qing didn't know that the proud wolf opposite her was afraid. In Su Qing's eyes, it felt like it was dead. Deeply fearful, as if in the depths of death. It felt its body trembling unconsciously, fearing the little girl who looked small and not very strong. Su Qing was the most dangerous human it had ever seen, with an eye gaze that seemed to be able to kill itself.

Just as Su Qing was about to make her move, she saw the rescuers arriving. The wolf pack seemed to have sensed something too and let out a howl, wanting to retreat. A burst of gunfire crackled through the air, and everyone was saved, with the wolves disappearing without a trace. Seeing Instructor Ning and several soldiers was like seeing long-lost family members, and everyone was overjoyed.

"Finally, our savior, Officer Ning, you've arrived."

"Arrived just in time, if we waited a bit longer everyone would have become wolves' midnight snack."

"You guys are really lucky to be alive, there must be good fortune ahead. How are your injuries? Are they serious?" Ning Bin looked at the battered appearance of the young men in front of him and couldn't help but worry about their wounds.

"Some were bitten and injured by wolves, but fortunately it's not very serious. Holding on until returning to the hospital is no problem."

"A helicopter will arrive soon, and the injured should return to the hospital for proper treatment. Now gather your equipment and bring it back together." Ning Bin thought that he had reported to the military district as soon as he heard the gunfire, thinking that the helicopter should be arriving soon.

"Instructor, since we're not injured, can't we just gather our things and head back together? Anyway, the training that was disrupted by the wolf pack can't continue. Zhou Rui almost got into trouble that one time when Su Qing fired her gun to save him; he himself was quite lucky to have escaped unscathed. He's not exactly the type who can endure hardship, so this chance to head back is definitely not going to be missed."

"This is beyond me, you'd better just stay here honestly." Officer Ning smiled.

"Coach, how can this be? What if that pack of wolves comes back again? By then, there will only be a few people left, isn't it even more dangerous? This time was already a narrow escape from death." Zhou Rui still wouldn't give up and now wanted to go back and sleep soundly.

"You're quite the talker, don't worry. I've been following your team from behind, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to come and rescue you so quickly. Next time I'll follow closer, not just rely on signal flares." Ning Bin's words made Zhou Rui hang his head in shame, still having to endure four more days of wilderness survival.

Before long, a helicopter arrived and took away the wounded and their equipment. The last wolf's corpse was also taken onto the plane, saying it would be made into a wolf-skin coat.

Zhou Rui gazed at the plane flying away, sighing constantly. Guo Wenjiao showed extreme disdain for his behavior. Instructor Ning also left, saying he would follow not far behind the team and send a signal if they encountered danger. The remaining people looked at each other, and this team was now left with only five people: Su Chen, Su Qing, Zhou Rui, Guo Wenjiao, and dim-witted Cui Zihao, who somehow didn't get hurt despite being foolish.

The remaining five people tidied up and gathered some dry branches to start a fire. After this incident, someone had to keep watch at night for the next few days.

Suddenly, Zhou Rui's words made everyone's already low emotions sink even lower. "We forgot to leave the guns with bullets behind, none of these three guns have any bullets." Seeing that everyone's faces didn't look good, Zhou Rui stopped talking.

On the other side, the helicopter went straight to the military hospital. The doctors who were temporarily notified to rush to the hospital had everything ready. The director of the hospital was experienced and had seen all kinds of illnesses. When he received a call saying that seven young people were bitten by wolves, he was stunned for a moment. Upon hearing that it was the children of the military compound's big shots who were in trouble, he hastily got out of bed and rushed to the hospital.

In the hospital, doctors and nurses are busy disinfecting and injecting, and they must be careful not to make any mistakes. These patients were ordered by the director of the hospital to receive good treatment, so as a small medical staff, they naturally have to follow orders.

In the military compound, several big shots heard that their beloved grandsons and granddaughters encountered a wolf pack and were injured, how could they rest assured. They all gathered in the living room of the Zhou family, listening to the soldier's report.

"A total of seven people were injured, two were bitten and the rest were scratched. Fortunately, none of them are in serious condition, and they are being treated at the hospital. The remaining five people were told by Instructor Ning to continue staying in the woods for further training, and Instructor Ning shortened the distance between them to facilitate protection." The soldier reported everyone's situation in one breath, and the elderly people also felt relieved.

"Tell the hospital to treat thoroughly, and protect the ones in the forest so that no more accidents happen." Old Zhou said, waving his hand, and the soldiers left.

"It's a pity for these kids to encounter a wolf pack. Fortunately, nothing serious happened." Old Man Guo thought and felt relieved, if the rescue was any later, something serious would have happened.

"There are still five in the woods. I reckon our Zhou Rui is probably complaining that he can't come back." Old Man Zhou indeed knew his grandson well.

"Lao Su, your two kids are really something, not a single one of them got hurt, it's not easy. With Su Chen around, there won't be any problems." Old Man Ding was increasingly fond of the two kids from the Su family, and at the same time, he grew more and more jealous.

"You really have confidence, they don't have many bullets left. Who knows if we can hold on for four more days." Old Master Su said with his mouth, but in his heart it was sweeter than eating honey.

"You just enjoy yourself, we'll go to the hospital and take a look at those little wounded ones. My daughter-in-law was so anxious that she almost cried." Old man Zhou's words made everyone go to the hospital, which grandfather wouldn't care about his grandson?

All the parents who could make it to the hospital have arrived, but the patient's wound has not been treated yet. The parents are waiting outside. The men look serious and unapproachable. But those elegant and dignified ladies, seeing their poor sons like this, can't stop crying.

  Here is the translation:

It's said that the training team that went to the wilderness had an accident, and before the specific situation was even mentioned, Madam Su's tears were already flowing. It's said they encountered a pack of wolves, and she almost fainted. In the end, it was learned that Su Chen and Su Qing were both fine, and the whole family's hearts could finally be put at ease. Grandma was overjoyed, thanking heaven and earth repeatedly. Upon hearing that the siblings would still have to spend several more days in the forest, Wang Shuqin, as their mother, began to worry again. Su Qingyuan repeatedly assured her that after this incident, the remaining people would be even more cautious in protecting them, and there wouldn't be any problems. After being tossed about for half a day, everyone was too exhausted to sleep well anymore.

Su Qing and the others continued in the forest, leaving two people to keep watch at night, while the remaining three slept. Everyone was really too tired, even if they were still afraid in their hearts, it couldn't compare to the exhaustion and drowsiness.

The first day of wilderness survival ended with such adventure, excitement and challenge. What will happen tomorrow?
