Chapter 20

Amidst the rain-filled darkness, someone's roar echoed loudly in the dark, accompanied by a sudden flash of lightning.

It reflected into the interior of the car, revealing a man sitting in the back seat who let out a roar while the car was still moving forward along the road.

When the light faded along with a small shout that rang out in the silence, the lightning flashed once again.

Revealing the man who was driving, his left hand gripping the steering wheel sharply turning it left and right, while using his right hand to strike backward along with a shout.

But a scream rang out in response from the passenger seat, at which point the light vanished, and when it appeared once more.

The jeep that had been driving on the road was now parked completely still in the middle of the street amidst the heavy downpour, and the man who was previously steering was now holding a shotgun, glaring at the back.

That caused the black hand from the back seat to lunge at his face; the sound of a gunshot rang out along with a muzzle flash that illuminated the darkness inside the car in the blink of an eye.

Revealing Vic gripping the shotgun amidst the light from the muzzle flash, as the outstretched black hand jerked violently and fell.

A sharp inhale resounded! Along with eyes that suddenly snapped open, revealing wide, azure-blue eyes.

Those azure eyes darted around slightly before soon blinking a few times, revealing the sight of a black ceiling bathed in dim light.

Seeing this, he took a deep breath before closing his eyes and bringing his right arm up to rest on his forehead, but he paused for a few seconds before immediately sitting up and abruptly looking left and right.

And the sight that appeared before him was an incredibly dark parking garage, where nearly 10 meters ahead, the wide-open back of a jeep was revealed.

Along with a dim light reflecting off the back of the jeep, which made Arc, who saw this, sit still for a moment before looking down.

Revealing his chest and abdomen cast in shadow, with light from behind shining through, as his upper body was currently bare; seeing this, he raised both hands.

Before frowning and raising his hands above his head, causing the light from behind to hit his pale palms, which made him frown before flipping his hands over, revealing the backs of his hands completely devoid of wounds.

Seeing this, he looked down at both of his arms and found that those black marks were completely gone, replaced by pale skin.

Arc, seeing this, bent down slightly as he used his left hand to touch his right arm; the smooth feeling of the skin and the heat of the muscles transmitting through the skin to his fingers.

Feeling this, it made him sit still for a moment before using both hands to examine his arms back and forth, then feeling all over his body and turning to check his back.

He then used his right hand to touch the back of his left arm, allowing him to feel his own muscles and sense his fingers pressing beneath the skin until they touched muscle and bone.

Arc sat completely still for a moment before lowering his hands and looking down at both of his hands once again.

  "Incredible, isn't it?"

A voice speaking up from the left, along with the sound of boots stepping on the floor, caused Arc to look up and turn toward that direction.

Revealing Vic walking out of the darkness with a cigarette in his mouth; he pulled the cigarette out with his right hand and exhaled the smoke.

Seeing him walk over to stop beside the concrete pillar in front and lean his back against it, it made me slowly turn back to look at my own body and speak up.

  "Yeah."

The right hand was slowly raised to eye level before trying to clench into a fist and open, which prompted Vic to speak.

"Good, because you almost became a corpse on the side of the street."

I immediately turned my face back to him and tilted my head slightly.

  "What do you mean?"

Vic raised his right hand holding the cigarette to take a drag, before soon pulling it away, exhaling smoke, and speaking.

  "Just try asking that woman."

  "That woman?"

Vic tilted his head to the right, prompting me, seeing this, to look to my left, where I found a young woman with short black hair under a hood, wearing a grey long-sleeved shirt, brown pants, and boots.

She was currently sitting hugging her knees beside a concrete pillar; she looked up, causing us to make eye contact, while I looked into her brown eyes and saw myself lying on a metal table.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Seeing this made me sit in silence for a moment before recalling everything about raiding the building, escaping, and finally being chased down.

  Which made me speak up.

  "Secretary?"

  "Claire, that's my name."

Claire spoke up, making me, upon hearing this, turn to Vic and find him finishing his cigarette, which made him throw it on the ground before stepping on it and speaking.

"Saw her sitting in the jeep you stole, so I brought her along thinking she was your lover, but it seems she's not."

  "Very funny."

Vic shrugged slightly before pushing himself off the concrete pillar and reaching into his back pocket; he pulled something out and tossed it to me.

Which made me raise my right hand to catch it and look down at it slightly, revealing the watch that used to be on my wrist with a slight crack on the glass.

But even so, the hands of the watch continued to tick, displaying the time 3:23 AM, which made me, seeing that, frown and immediately look up at him.

  Prompting him to say.

"We've wasted nearly 3 hours here, no need to say whose fault it is."

I, who was about to open my mouth, shut it almost instantly, then looked down and nodded silently without saying anything, which made him turn around and walk to the jeep; making me, who watched his back for a moment, sigh and glance at the watch.

Before putting the watch back on my right wrist with the dial facing me; just then, the sound of something slamming shut rang out, making me look over slightly and see Vic who had just closed the trunk.

"Hurry up and get dressed, we have to get out of here before morning."

Vic didn't turn back while speaking as he walked off to the left heading toward the front of the car, making me nod slightly before turning to my right and slowly moving my body, swinging both legs off the table, and standing up.

Making me turn around to look at the table I had just gotten up from, finding military clothes folded up like a pillow on the table.

I reached out to pick them up before turning to Vic, who was now standing by the driver's side of the car, and speaking.

  "Where are my clothes?"

  "That woman took them."

I immediately turned back to Claire sitting on the floor and observed the clothes she was wearing, finding that the long-sleeved shirt she currently wore looked slightly too big for her body, to the extent that both of her hands seemed swallowed by the sleeves.

"Since you brought her along, I gave her your clothes."

Vic's voice ringing out made me, who was staring at her quietly, notice her looking down with her face pressed tightly against her legs.

  Prompting me to say.

  "And my leather jacket?"

"Your clothes are in the trunk."

I let go of the military uniform and walked to the back of the jeep, prompting me to use both hands to open the trunk, revealing up to 8 boxes right in front.

Making me, seeing that, scan my eyes over them briefly before leaning to the left and finding a black tactical duffel bag beside the boxes.

I pulled the bag out with my left hand and opened it to look inside, revealing leather gear along with clothes underneath; seeing this, I pulled them out and found a brown leather jacket.

Seeing that, I set it aside before searching inside and pulling out a blue long-sleeved shirt to put on, followed by the leather jacket, zipping it up to the neck, then searching the bag to grab grey tactical gloves and putting them on both hands.

Once dressed, it made me, using my hand to search inside, grab hold of something, causing me to pull it out and find a very familiar silver gun.

It prompted me to pull the slide back slightly, finding 1 round chambered inside; seeing this, I ejected the magazine and found it empty, causing me to slap the magazine back in and look down at my right thigh.

But finding only pants, I turned my attention back inside the bag and used my hand to search around for a while before pulling something out, finding a gun holster.

Seeing that, I strapped the holster to my leg as before, then holstered the gun at my thigh and spoke.

"Vic, what about the other gun?"

I walked slightly to the left and looked ahead, meeting only darkness; right then, a vibrating sound from the left rang out along with a light shining forward.

Causing me to turn and look, finding Vic sitting on a motorcycle, which made him turn to me while reaching his right hand back to grab a black, suppressed handgun to show me.

Making me, seeing that, nod slightly before he put the gun back behind him and spoke.

"Hurry up and get your girlfriend in the car and let's go, before we lose our chance to get out of this city."

I looked at his face for a moment before turning to Claire, who was still sitting on the floor with a lantern not far from her, about 1 meter away.

Seeing that made me stand completely still for a moment before walking over to her, while she remained sitting silently in place without moving anywhere, prompting me, after stopping beside her, to crouch down and go quiet for a moment before speaking.

"I won't make excuses for putting you in this state, but, we have no choice right now. You're in the same boat with us now, even if you don't want to be. You have no choice now except to stay here, or come with us."

She didn't reply at all other than sitting with her head down, prompting me to nod gently and speak.

  "Okay."

I stood up from the floor slowly before turning back to Vic, which made Vic, seeing that, speak up.

"I'll go check the situation outside, so hurry up and follow."

After speaking, he turned around and revved the throttle before driving off, making me, seeing that, turn back to her still sitting motionless on the floor, then turn around and speak briefly.

"I'm going to go check the car, so I'll wait at the car for 5 minutes."

I walked slowly toward the car as the light from the lantern gradually dimmed until I was standing beside the car at the driver's seat.

Making me, glancing at the car slightly, notice a dent in the middle of its side, which caused the image of the man in the white suit who crashed into the car to replay in my head; and with a level of force that sent the car flying into the wall.

There was no way the car's frame would only have this much of a dent unless it had been repaired, which I looked at briefly before turning to check the car door.

And found an empty doorway, meaning there was no car door; one could just step up and sit right in, making me, seeing that, step up to sit inside the car before using my hand to turn the steering wheel slightly and look down.

Revealing 2 disconnected wires, prompting me to connect them together, and right then the roaring sound of the engine rang out.

Making me look up and find the car's headlights shining forward, hitting the wall almost 20 meters away; it made me lean back into the driver's seat before closing my eyes.

Right then, the sound of a door opening rang out, making me slowly open my eyes and look to my right; Claire, who had now climbed in to sit inside the car, pulled the door toward herself, causing the sound of the door slamming shut violently to ring out as she looked toward the front of the car and crossed her arms.

Making me, seeing that, nod slightly and reach my right hand to grab the gear shift, pushing it forward while turning the steering wheel left before stepping on the gas pedal.

Causing the car to move to the left before heading forward and turning right, making the car go up along the path before disappearing into the darkness after passing the wall.

Leaving behind only the lantern shining its light inside the parking garage amidst the darkness.
