  I hope you enjoyed reading Act One as much as I enjoyed writing it.

  You may notice the early chapters feel a little different. I experimented with the style at first, but I found myself missing the snark and directness I usually lean on. I’m shifting back into that voice going forward. We’ll see whether it undercuts the cosmic dread or amplifies it.

  Influence-wise, this story definitely pulls from One Piece and Lord of the Mysteries. The idea actually came to me while playing an RPG with an OC and realizing just how much you can do with a maritime setting. No wonder Oda’s been working on his for decades.
