Conquered 11 – Fluttering Devotion

Master Vladimir has given me an important task, and I shall not disappoint him.

Just as the matter with the Ebonatum Kingdom was to be concluded, this trio of weirdos appeared and disrupted my master’s glorious victory and dominance. What’s worse was that my master was being completely charmed by their antics.

Part of me had wanted to punish them for this interruption but I couldn’t go against my master’s desires. If he had expressed interest in them there was no need for me to intervene. So reluctantly I stayed in the background while keeping an eye on them.

  …

And sure enough, they started to attack us.

It all happened so fast. Damian quickly saved Master Vladimir before one of them could finish the job. We scattered with the intent of handling the enemies. Master Vladimir gave us all clear roles for our fight.

I was ecstatic when he chosen me to take charge of such a task as monitoring his army. I had no plans to disappoint my small red scaled master after all. I could leave it up to the one who rivals my loyalty, Mordred, to protect Master Vladimir.

I decided for the beginning I would observe my chosen enemy and sniff out anything I could use. Plus, I could tell that those that had not been able to participate in Master Vladimir’s conquest before were anxious to prove themselves here, so I obliged.

Seeing the number advantage, I would think that the female of the trio would show some kind of concern. I began to worry when that wasn’t the case, in fact she seemed rather confident in herself despite the case.

She started to tread with such grace; you would think she was starting some kind of performance piece. She conveyed such confidence that some of us couldn’t help but be taken in. Even as she pulled out two fans.

“My oh my, whatever shall a lady such as I to do? Surrounded by such sheer numbers.” She started to say, the tone in her voice making it hard to tell whether she was being serious or not.

But before any of us could figure it out a gust of wind started to pick up. We could feel it around us as if it was pulling us in. It wasn’t hard to tell who was causing this.

As if reading our thoughts she started to answer. “Now why don’t we begin this special dance shall we?”

With one sweep of her arm, her fan motioned in a new breeze as it danced around in the air creating a windstorm around the field. It immediately started to sweep the smaller of my master’s army in the sky. Many of them started to panic as they tried and failed to ground themselves.

  “Wh-whoa!!!”

“Let me down let me down!!”

Luckily the orcs and wolves seemed much more stable though they were having trouble moving through the wind. Meanwhile I waved my arm, my dark wing moving in response as I conjured multiple small shadows to grab and secured them in place. After all, I doubt Master Vladimir would be too happy if I let anything of his get blown away.

“And here I thought I could brush away most of that creature’s followers.” The one that calls herself “The Speed Fan” complained before looking straight at me. “Not a bad reaction time. Compared to many of those little creatures’ followers you seem much more interesting. You could be stronger than him even.”

It took a significant effort not to react to that comment, my devotion to my master making it easier. Though in the end I did humor her a little.

“I am but a humble butler for my Master Vladimir, the Tiny Tyrant.” I bowed, doing my best to show proper respect so as not to humiliate my Kobold master.

“Oh my, how humble you are. Makes me quite curious how such a creature could gain such loyalty from such a powerful man such as yourself. Then again, I doubt even you could compare to our emperor.”

As if he could compare to the glory of my master. This woman spouts nothing but nonsense.

Pushing through the strong winds two of my master’s Orcs managed to close in to her as they swung their clubs right at her. Yet, she was unfazed.

  “Tch, barbarians.”

With a quick flick from her fans, I was expecting some kind of attack. Instead, I was surprised to see that both of his Orcs had completely missed.

They panicked when they saw that their weapons didn’t connect. “What th-”

Without missing a beat, she twirled in time to her fans as a tornado spun around her and tore into his Orcs before they were pushed back themselves. Thankfully they seemed to have suffered only minor cuts, The wounds were already beginning to regenerate.

Fascinating, at first glance I would have thought she was simply able to conjure wind Magic. But my eyes did not miss what had happened. While it seemed like they simply swung in the wrong direction, something else forced them to miss instead.

With my curiosity with this magic, I decided to test it out myself. Raising both my hands I conjured multiple elemental magic around her, each with their own speed and strength. I launched them all at the same time. A blast of burning fire, a splash of dripping water, a spark of lightning, and an explosion of rock.

I doubted this would be enough to stop her instead….

Sure, enough she used the same technique to completely invade all of the attacks. At least that was what she intended her opponent to think. I wasn’t so easy to fool. It was subtle but the way each of my elemental attacks moved at the end was unnatural.

“So that’s how it is. Intriguing.”

Understanding how it all works now I casually walked towards the young elf.

“Now to put it into action.” I announced before I disappeared in the shadows with my next step.

Undeterred she kept her stance, her fans at the ready for my next attack. Next moment I reappeared from within her own shadow, my dark wings at the ready to strike. The edge of them was covered by sharpened darkness.

It should have been enough to connect but it seems she had enough survival instincts to sense the danger to her to block with the blunt end of her fan. Still managing to move with such fluidity while she looked behind and gazed right at me.

“Well well, seems you figured it out huh? ~” She mockingly replied, clearly looking amused.

We both stepped back, neither of us losing our composure. I patted off any dirt from the precious suit my master had sewn for me. I wouldn’t dream to have such a gift be sullied.

“I am quite amused you picked up on the fact you couldn’t change the direction of my shadows. So, you had no choice but to block it instead.” I chuckled, while conjuring a circle of shadow tentacles around me before lowering my stance. “Shall we see how long you can last?”

  “Yeah, fuck her up!!”

“Show her what you got butler boy!”

…how amusing, to get such cheers from others. Just another gift my master has given me. My eternal loyalty is ever yours, Master Vladimir. “Now then, Lady Claire was it? Shall we have this dance of life and death? ~”

She positioned herself, her fans at the ready to clash with my shadows. All the while I could feel the dark mists of my body flutter and dance all around me as the light of my eyes glow ever bright. I could swear I could feel the mist around my face part to form something of a smile.

Before either of us knew it we commenced our waltz of war. Each dark tentacle clashed with fan and wind with neither side letting up. While I had enough power to overwhelm her with numbers, she proved to be both fast and nimble enough to dodge most of my dark onslaught with any she couldn’t countered back.

It was obvious we were getting to a stalemate. The only thing that could end our graceful dance of death was to see which of us were to lose our steam first.

But of course, it was not like my shadows were the only thing I had at my disposal. Taking a page from how my master fights, at moments right as I swung one of my shadow tentacles, I conjured an extended blade at the tip made from ice with enough strength that she wouldn’t be able to block with her fans or wind alone. Forcing her to utilize her skill of directional manipulation to keep it from hitting her.

Though I wasn’t done as I added another icicle edge then another before less than half of my conjured tentacles were extended in ice with no pattern to it. With this set up I began to swing at random intervals, making it harder for even her to predict as she was forced to keep track which had which as to not waste her abilities.

Soon enough I was starting to dominate the battle, with each swing and each second passing it was beginning to overwhelm my opponent.

That’s right, cower before my might before you rue the day you had to fa-

Suddenly I was brought back to my senses just as I was about to finish, when a message had appeared in front of me.

That’s right, it seems my master had something important to tell me…

  ….

…what is the meaning of this?!
