8. Fracture

  [Dream Of Drow]

  [Sequence Failed. Retry?]

  [Y/N]

Suna stared at the boring room. He was back. The wooden wardrobe greeted him, and his body sank into the double bed. He palmed his head and let out a sigh.

“How am I supposed to survive that?” Suna grumbled to the system.

It looked like he could retry at any time.

Well, not anytime. Half of his mana was consumed. It still annoyed him that this took an extra slot. Was there any way to remove the skill? He probably wasn't going to remove Drowication, but that would be helpful to know. And also, what was that dream all about?

He had become Drow and was in a sci-fi battle? Was that the past? And they had a proper system for weapons, not these magical things that hung in his vision.

Perhaps, if he could survive, he could find out more. One thing he noticed was that he could understand the Drow language. But again, those bloody bombardments, how was he supposed…

And why did they lose all of that tech? This time, he was confident that the tutorial somehow created the Drow he was facing for training purposes. Their level was indicative enough for him. But what about the Tiefling? Were they also created to be killed by him? And most of all, this Necromancer…

Suna barely knew anything about him. And he had to find out.

Now, with his level and new bow, hunting shouldn’t be too hard. He still did not have confidence in close-quarter combat, but maybe he could win from overwhelming strength and agility alone.

Yes, this was the time to go out and seek other humans or find out about this Necromancer, so he could have a lead to leave this place.

One thing Suna also liked to do was practice with his Mana Arrow. If he could conjure them faster than he could draw, then that would be an incredible option. But now his Mana was cut in half, and he was stuck in two positions. On one hand, his body had rested enough, and he didn’t want to wait. But at the same time, his mana was a problem.

He laid out his weapon and the food he had looted from the tower. It's all hard bread, some cheese, and apples. He had also gotten plenty of waterskins.

Suna decided to eat one slice of bread. He scowled at the dryness of it; it was like eating a rock. Gulping down one water skin, he threw it down.

Two crossbows and their bolts lay on the floor. He didn’t think he would need them, but they would be a very good item to give to someone else. Of course, if he met a human.

His Sword, of course, he would take; it was light, and he needed to practice melee combat. Slinging his obsidian bow on his back, he stood and was pleased as his bow quiver was full.

And this [Cleric Staff]. He would bring it. If he got into a fight, he might drop it. Should that have happened, he had decided now that he would be willing to lose it.

Suna decided to bring the two crossbows. He left his houses, and the ashes had lessened. Still, though, the street was covered by it. Suna trudges across, his feet parting the ashes; it’s not quite like snow. This was much lighter and had a slight wet smell.

He began to amble his way toward the highest tower. Suna could discern the tower now that the fog had weakened. It stood imposingly and pierced the cloud above. Moonlight slipped, shrouding the fog with silvery, almost slimmery sear. It looked strange, like a streak of silver trying to split the fog right in the middle, yet it was ethereal and real in an alien way.

The walk will take a while, Suna recognized.

He could see the tower, but not the path leading to it.

Maybe two hours or three passed, he sneaked around near houses, and every time he turned a corner, he waited a full minute before passing. Suna hadn’t encountered anyone yet. He was relieved and disappointed at the same time.

Surprisingly, he was not as nervous as he thought he would be. Maybe because he was confident he could take down any Drow Patrol before they could shoot at him. A shot, then another with Archer Backstep, but that trick would require him to be close enough so that the Archer Backstep can still recognise the target. With his Dexterity, he was very confident he could pull it off.

He eventually met with an intersection. To his left, the space opened up into a fenced ground with bushes, trees, and grass covering them. If he kept going straight, then there was just another house block, the same kind as the one he's been on. To his right was the tower. The street widened, and he could see it led into a grand circular road around the tower.

The garden was quite interesting… Well, he didn’t know if it was a garden. But it stretched as far as his eyes could see. And what was most curious was that there were guards.

Four of them were patrolling; they marched together around the paved road just beyond the fences.

Deciding the house beside him would be the perfect one to observe, Suna entered it. He was cautious, of course, for this house could be easily made into a post by the Drow. He cleared the kitchen, then moved to the bathroom. As he was about to open the door, he heard humming from inside.

Suna skidded back, his hand drawing an arrow. He leaned close against the door and listened to the broken and sad attempt at a whistle.

  Was this a Drow?

Sure, the tune might be horrible, but…

Deciding to steel himself, he kicked the door open.

  “Slea! What the fu—”

Suna aimed his bow at a man bathing in a pool. Most of his body was submerged, leaving only his head up.

  A man, not a Drow.

  [Warrior. Lvl 5]

  Rugby Player!

  He gasped and shouted. “Drow!”

“Wait, no—” Suna let down his bow. His head snapped to the bathroom’s exit as a bright blue source of light almost blinded him.

His senses came alive. He rolled through the slippery bathroom, and a blast of mana charred the wall behind him.

A mage? Must be. And she was about to come in to…

  “Hold on!”

The Rugby player screamed, and he lunged from the pool, jumping out to headbutt him.

Suna spun and whipped his leg into the man's face, knocking him down. He immediately cursed afterward. Suna reached down, pulling the man by his hair so he did not drown.

The Rugby Player struggled, even punching his arm. Which hurt, but it wasn't a problem for him.

“Rugby Player! It's me! Calm dow—"

“Noa!” A feminine voice shouted. She came in wearing her mage's cloak. The girl with sunset colored hair pointed her staff at Suna again. Blue Mana swirled on its tip, and she was about to launch it.

  [Mage. Lvl 6]

Suna dropped the Rugby Player’s head and was about to dodge again before the gleaming mana stopped, and the spell died down.

  “Did you say Rugby Player?”

  “Yes, I did.”

  --------------------------

Suna lounged on a wall in the kitchen.

The young woman fiddled with her thumb under the long table. She was seated with her head down and her staff across the table.

“Uh, I’m sorry for earlier, I might almost kill you,” she mumbled, with her cheek red.

  Might? Might!

Suna was not sure what her strength was. If she had been levelling without gaining any feat or strength rune, then that spell probably would not have killed him. But it would undoubtedly hurt.

“It's fine,” he said with a wry smile. Of course, it wasn't. But still… “I was the one who sneaked in.”

“Yes! We were worried Drow found us. I swear I was about to faint when Noa shouted it out. Also…” She scratched her neck and went on fiddling with her thumb again. “Do you have any food? We have water, but we were starving. And potion too! Its important”

Suna reached across his Cleric cloak, and opened the tied satchel. He laid two apples across the table, and her eyes lit up.

  “Uh, can I?”

“Sure, take it. I have some more; the Rugby Player can take some too.”

Without a second's hestiation, she bit the apple,. Juices ran down her chin, but she didn’t care. That apple did look appetizing. Suna should have eaten that one, not the bread.

In a few seconds, Suna was impressed. The girl had just eaten an apple in five seconds. Was this because of their strength? Their teeth had grown stronger or something like that?

“Thank you. Seriously,” she wiped her mouth with a napkin placed next to a plate. “It's strange, just an apple, and I think I could go on days without eating again,” She grinned, tapping her stomach.

“You guys were hungry? That's strange. I wasn't hungry, and I just eaten probably three or four hours ago.”

“Well, your Level…” Her eyes widened. “Archer level 11… how! With that class, too.”

Oh, he still remembered that. Suna scowled down at her, and she gasped and closed her mouth with the palm of her hand. She bowed up and down, offering an apology.

At the end of the day, it was not all that bad. If anything, he was glad he gotten Archer; if he were to do it all over again, the only class he would consider was Hunter or Mage.

“It's fine, I’m over it. So? How do you guys get here? Did you and the Rugby Player teleport close to each other?”

“No, not at all. I was inside a house from the get-go, then after observing the street for an entire day, I came here. because of the tower”

So, someone sought the tower from the get-go. Well, granted, she was the one to recommend it as their gathering place.

“I hid under the low wall, not sure what to do. But then Noa came with two others.. Min and Reki. The [Hunter] and [Paladin]”

Suna only remembered the office worker, who must be named Reki. As for the other one, he had no recollection of her.

  “What of them?”

She pressed her lip thin, chewing her cheek.

Suna spoke softly. “Are they dead?”

  “I wish.”

  He blinked.

  He did not expect that…

“What?” he managed to ask, although he was completely bewildered.

“Whoa! I mean, not Min, but I wish Reki were dead!” she defended herself.

“And that… makes it any better how?” Suna scowled.

“That… that idiot! He drew five Drow Warriors and one Ranger on us! We had agreed to just hold out until we found more people, but because a couple of fights went easily, he went ahead and tried to ambush five of them! Five! Can you imagine that?”

Actually, Suna could. Ambushing five did not seem like an impossible task. Especially when there were four of them. Also, the Paladin and the Warrior were both well-armed.

The reason it doesn't work was probably because of the friction within the group.

  “Well, what happened after?”

“Min is currently dying upstairs. We use all five potions on her, but those just barely kept her alive. She was shot in the heart, and I happened to be close to feed her potion almost immediately.”

She slumped her head down on her palm and let out a huge, mournful sigh.

Then the young woman, Slea, scowled.

“Reki and us got into a fight… well, he and I”

“Fight?” Suna cursed inside. They were fighting each other? Under these conditions? How ridiculous. “It's not a physical fight, was it?” he asked hopefully .

“We punched each other. Now he was in a different house, across from this one.”

“Are you kidding me!” Suna half shouted.

“What? Someone had to knock that son of… Anyway, I have to ask. Do you have a potion by any chance? Min really needs it.”

Suna laid out his potions along with the Mana potion.

“Mana potion… and seven Health Potions. How did you even get these?”

Slea's eyes shone, they went from the potion to Suna.

“I can tell you later, and about this Cleric Cloak too”.

“Right!.. That too,” she mumbled, eyeing him.

He needed to make it clear he did not kill the [Cleric].

“For now, let's heal the [Hunter], and also, I will see the Office Worker later.”

“Sneak a punch at him while you're at it,” Slea grumbled as she led the way to the [Hunter] room.
