Chapter 107 – Making The Great Escape

Rey sat there huffing and sweating so much that his shirt was wet, and any demon, Sniffer or not, could most definitely tell he was not a demon. On a typical day, this would be a problem, but after what he had seen, he wasn't sure that it mattered anymore.

Just what the hell was that?

He realized he was still clutching Aearbon's skull, so he dropped it immediately. It couldn't be a real premonition, and if it was, why did he have it now? He quickly checked all his skills to make sure he didn't have the Seer Element. He didn't. Then why did he have that premonition of their deaths, and that too after he held Aearbon's skull?

Was it because his death was connected to his, or because he had died defending him, or was it because, after touching his skull, he had finally touched all the skulls? But if they were supposed to die, then how the fuck were their skeletons already here? These skeletons looked like they'd been here for a decade, if not longer.

It couldn't be because of some alternate dimension bullshit. That they had died here in another timeline, and he had just watched the deaths of his counterparts in that dimension, and it was bound to happen here. Even if that were the case, then why were these skeletons here?

He knew the Gravity Orbs sucked off his Mana the longer he sat there and pondered these questions, but he didn't know what else to do. There were so many things wrong with this. Fate hadn't told him about this. He didn't say that he had such powers. This wasn't related to having prior knowledge of the future. He had seen it, as if it were a very vivid dream. As if he had been there watching the events unfold from his own point of view.

Kassi cupped his face in her hand. "Rey, are you okay?"

Her touch brought him back to reality. He shook out of his introspection and realized they were all staring at him.

"Are you for real?" Filomena asked. "You saw our deaths?"

Rey nodded. For once, he didn't have anything witty or funny to say. All his quips had rage-quit out of his mind because of how scared he was. For the life of him, he couldn't figure out what it was. Why were their skulls here?

Seriously, what the fuck is going on?

"How do we die?" Ajay asked.

"We get overwhelmed by the demons," Rey replied. "There are too many of them for us to kill. I think we've truly bitten off more than we can chew." He was quiet for a long moment before he added. "I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think these are our skeletons."

"What?" They all snapped, aside from Aearbon, who took it in like a rock.

"I'm not sure how I know, but I just know. How did they end up out of our bodies and in this neat little pile for us to find, I don't know. Why I had this premonition after touching Aearbon's skull, again, I don't know. Maybe because it was the only skull that I hadn't touched. Again, I don't know the why or the how. All I know is we're about to be fucked six ways from Sunday."

"And me?" The Sniffer spoke up. "Did you see me?"

Rey frowned as he tried to remember, and then finally shook his head. "No, I don't remember seeing you. Maybe you'd already fucked off to the neverland that awaits all your kind after death, or maybe you betray us to the demons to save your hide. Maybe you'll do that now, since you know of our fate. If that's the case, we might as well kill you now."

Noidet backed up. "H-Hey, I haven't betrayed you yet. Maybe I'd already died before your vision started."

"Rey, how do we get out of this?" Kassi asked, drawing his attention. "You've always seen such futures for us, and always you've figured out a way to get past them. This shouldn't be any different."

He had no idea how to say, 'So… fun fact, I made all that up.' Because all the other times, he hadn't had a true premonition. In fact, he had relied on his memories of the future, which could be altered, like painting over an old painting and creating something new, but this felt so weird…so vivid. He wasn't sure it could be changed.

The problem was that he had lied to them so thoroughly about being a Seer that he couldn't even talk with them openly about this. He shared a look with Kassi, and she knew something was up. Somehow, she could tell, but since they weren't in a dungeon, he couldn't risk talking to her about this. He was sure Zalathar was watching, especially since they were so close to their deaths; it was probably so exciting for him.

His Mana kept plummeting by the second. The Gravity Orbs were keeping them safe, but they wouldn't last forever, and neither would his Mana. He wanted to rip his hair out, but he couldn't just sit there and let death ram his cock in his ass and also his friends' assholes.

"Okay, we're going to get the fuck out of here," Rey declared.

"How? Did you forget the army of demons outside?" Filomena replied.

"Of course not, but are you forgetting that I can flatten entire neighborhoods into craters?"

That quietened any budding doubts in anyone's mind, though it didn't quiet the voice in his head that kept screaming.

  You're going to die.

He told that part of him to shut up and let him think. The Gravity Orbs had already collected enough demons that it was practically impossible to see outside the windows. He needed a way out. They needed to run in a direction that would be easier for them to get lost in the city.

Rey turned to Noidet. "What's the easiest way out of this ruined section of the city?"

He thought for a moment. "It would probably be the way we came. Though we could head towards the walls, they would probably be manned by guards, especially now, to stop you guys from escaping."

"Back towards the city it is," Rey declared. He walked towards the city-facing window, grabbed a demon guard by the arm, and pulled him inside. He ripped open his throat, a second later. Then he started washing himself with his dark blood. He looked to his friends, who stared at him. "What are you all waiting for? Get busy covering up your scents."

Kassi dropped beside him as the others ran to pull another demon to slay. She ripped open the demon's chest and covered any exposed part of her skin with the dark blood. Though her eyes never left Rey's face.

She whispered quietly enough so that only Rey would hear. "Rey, what's going on? I've never seen you this scared."

Rey paused in his blood bathing. "Kassi, this was different. It wasn't like any other vision that I had seen before. We'll talk more later, if we can get out of here."

"Okay, but don't worry, we'll make it out of here." She clasped his bloody hand and leaned forward and kissed him. "To whatever end, remember."

He nodded and ripped open more of the demon to make sure he could cover all of himself. Ironically, they looked like a pack of demons who had descended on their prey, ripped it open, and were feasting on its blood. Noidet watched them quietly, saying nothing. Rey would give a gold ingot to know the lay of his thoughts. If he were planning to betray them, he would die first.

Rey spoke in a loud manner as he made himself filthy with demon blood. "I'm going to increase gravity to about fifty percent, and we'll run over their heads and head for the city. Aearbon, you're going to have to carry our demon friend."

Aearbon nodded and scooped up Noidet as if he were a child, making him yelp like one. It would've been hilarious were it not for the vision playing in his head on repeat. Where had it come from? Another mystery that he had no answer to.

They all finished about the same time as Rey. He moved to the Gravity Orb and blasted the demons back with Repulsion as he shut the Gravity Orb. They were blasted away from the window, clearing a path for them.

He activated Gravity's Domain, increased the gravity to fifty percent, and all the demons that were crawling up the side of the house fell. Even Noidet, who was on Aearbon's shoulder, grunted as the increased pressure hit him, but none of his friends were affected as they had trained in an increased gravity environment for more than a month.

Rey concentrated and pushed the Domain out as far as he could, which ended up being all the way till where this ruined section of the city began. He thanked the Maker. Not all of the demons were under the Domain, but that wouldn't make a difference. What worried him was the number of demons that he had dropped to the ground. The more they fidgeted, the more Mana he would burn.

Since time was of the essence, he quickly jumped out of the window and landed on a demon's back, breaking its spine. She cried out, and Rey almost stopped to make a joke, but his Mana was dropping as if someone had shot his Mana bucket with a Gatling gun.

Each time someone fidgeted, it was like a kick to his Mana, so he ran at full speed, doing his best to dodge any demon guards who tried to swipe at his ankles. It slowed them down, but they were making good progress.

Noidet squeaked out instructions, and it wasn't long until they could see the regular city in the distance. There weren't that many guards sprawled out here in the road, which was good, because Rey was dangerously close to Mana Fatigue. He wanted to have enough remaining to flatten this whole section of the city, but that would be easier said than done.

As it turned out, his Domain didn't extend all the way out to the end of the ruins, but it was close enough, and no guards were waiting for them.

"Okay, we're almost home free," Rey called.

"I'm surprised how easy it was," Noidet managed.

Right then, the guard captain, along with a trio of demons, stepped out from behind a wall. They were equally as surprised to see them as they were.

Rey glared at Noidet. "You just had to say it. I'm going to rip out your nails for jinxing us."

He looked at his sharp nails and tucked them under his arms. "Sorry."

The guard captain glared at them. "How the fuck are you here?"

"How the fuck are you here?" Rey asked. "Shouldn't you be back there trying to shit out your spine with your men?"

"If I were him, I would probably be running back to get more men after the mounds upon mounds of demons we killed," Kassi remarked.

"Shut up, whore," he snapped. "I'll show you the proper use of that mouth once I'm done killing your friends."

Rey sighed. "You just had to say some shit like that."

He snapped his fingers, and with the last of his Mana, he turned the ruins into a crater. The world shook as the building crashed to the ground one after another. It was as if he were a kid who had gone around smashing all the Lego buildings. All the demon guards that were in his Domain were crushed under rubble as the buildings crumbled and fell under their own weight, as he increased the gravity in the Domain to five hundred percent. Then, he promptly dropped to a knee as Mana Fatigue hit him like a brick to the face.

That wasn't the only thing that hit him in the face.

More like these that went on and on and on. They didn't stop for a long while.

Kassi bent down beside him. "Are you okay?"

Rey just groaned in response. That was all he could do as the notifications flashed by in rapid succession, and the migraine did its best to squeeze Rey's brain out of his skull. The combination of the two made it hard to focus on anything that was going on around him.

The next thing he knew, Aearbon dropped Noidet and dashed forward towards the Guard Captain. It was hard to tell what was going on since the damn notifications wouldn't go away. Next, he knew, Ajay and Filomena had thrown themselves in the fray as well, taking on the other guards that were backing up the captain.

  "Don't kill…him," Rey croaked.

Kassi frowned and leaned closer. "Huh? Kill who?"

"No, don't kill the captain," Rey replied, clutching his head. "Tell Aearbon…take him…prisoner."

  "You sure?"

"Yes." Rey snapped and immediately winced as the migraine rewarded him dearly for speaking too loudly.

Kassi conveyed the message to the Tigerman, who nodded and got to work. Ajay and Filomena fried the other three with their respective elements while Kassi kept an eye on Noidet and, most of all, Rey, who was basically an invalid at this point.

Aearbon made short work of the captain. He bonked him on the head and threw him over his shoulder. By that time, Rey's notifications had stopped. He was utterly disappointed that after killing so many of them, he still hadn't managed to rank up to Rank 10. Maybe after killing the captain, he would.

He managed to stand and wanted to hurl from the pain wrecking his head. Thankfully, Kassi took over for him.

She looked at Noidet. "We need a place to lie low, and don't even think that to double-cross us."

"Lady, after that." He pointed behind him to the crater. "I'm not messing around with this guy."

  "Good boy," Rey managed.

Noidet led the way while the others ran after him, while Rey mostly flinched, gasped, and winced most of the way.
