Chapter interlude : Morning mortal blade

Yaren opened her eyes of piercing green. The greenhouse was warm, its trees and flowers blooming. She picked up a sword with a black handle wrapped with tricolor ribbons of black, gray, and white. She pulled the blade from its scabbard, slightly revealing the base of the blade and an inlay gold pattern featuring a set of prayer beads, a ship, and a flower. She got off her knees, standing up with a resounding crack, and walked into the hallway before turning down the stairs, hanging the sword at her hip. She walked into the dining room and sat down at the long table on a chair at the end of it. She rested her head on her hands, elbows resting on the table. A woman in a maid's dress walked in carrying a plate of oatmeal with fruit on top of it, with a mug of green semi-transparent warm tea. She set the plate down in front of her. She said, “Your breakfast, my lady.” The maid pulled out a stack of envelopes and set them down in front of her. “You have mail, my lady.” Yaren yawned and said, “I told you to stop calling me my lady; you've lived here for 27 years, Ophelia.” The maid bowed and said, “I apologize, I just still think it's just courtesy to call you my lady.”

Yaren pulled the letter with a green wax seal to her and produced a letter opener from her coat. “I think it's fine for you to call me Yaren or Lorea, one of the two is fine, hell, Hana and Rosario see you as a second mother.” Ophelia said, “Yes, Yaren.” Yaren placed the letter opener on the letter and sliced it open, pulling out a folded sheet of paper, and a small picture fell out of its folds. She unfolded the paper and read from the top.

“yea this isn't a formal military correspondence or anything of importance really. So I really don't care how this is formatted. Hello, mommy, this is none other than your bestest boy, Ryvr. I am reaching out today to let you know I have my baby brother here with me in Lorategia, and I also sent this letter to you through secure channels because I don't know who is listening. I trust you will be attending the noble house meetups. Personally, you know I would rather be submitted to actual torture, but I guess I'll be there, bringing baby brother and some of his friends by the way too, also I can't wait for you to meet my wives i think you and Xue will get along nicely youre both very cold and brooding, i also took the advantage and rented out the entire top three penthouse layers of the Roulette. Well anyways that's all I had to say. Like I said I know you're probably very excited to see me, and I guess my brother too, but we all know I am your favourite son. If you are bringing the Yacht make sure to park it in Lower Port 1. I am bringing the skeleton key, so I have no need for the waterfront parking. Also, if possible, can you check the Family archives for anything relating to a supposed Half-Crown king or Original Sin? It would be of great assistance if you could bring me anything relating to those topics. Thank you, and we'll see you soon then.”

Yaren smiled and placed the letter down, and picked up the picture, which showed Ryvr holding his hand out with two fingers held up with Rosario sleeping in the background. “Ophelia, can you tell the pilots to begin preparing the Laurel we leave in two weeks.” Ophelia turned around and said, “Yes lady Yaren will have them begin preparations immediately.” Ophelia walked out of the room as Yaren raised a spoon of oatmeal to her mouth. “I should slap him for taking that tone with me when I see him,” she said under her breath.
