Chapter 30: Let it be
“Hey! Are you listening!”
Mr. Magician was jolted awake from his thoughts when he heard an angry voice scream at him. Ms. Snow had been talking while Mr. Magician was lost in thought.
She had just noticed that he wasn’t listening and when tired, her patience runs thin. Mr. Magician horridly apologized.
“I was lost in my own thoughts. I’m sorry!”
“I forgive you, just listen to me, please.”
Ms. Snow was too tired to continue be angry. She had spent the whole night using divination to find any more clues to Gourmet. She found nothing.
Ms. Snow had a theory, one she had to share with someone and because the only one with a divination characteristic was Mr. Magician, she decided that it was him that had to hear it.
“What if the reason we have been having trouble finding clues to Gourmet is because we used divination? If they could interfere with divination on one street, why wouldn’t they be able to hide their main meeting place from divination?
Instead of searching for their main meeting place we search for places with divination interference.”
Ms. Snow stopped talking, she wanted to wait for the young man in front of her to think about what she had just said. As he pondered on what Ms. Snow said, Mr. Magician came with a theory as well.
“They could be hiding their main meeting place by using multiple places like the building me and Mr. Specter searched to interfere with divination.”
Ms. Snow showed her approval for Mr. Magician’s deduction. The two of them ran to Mr. Rouge’s office and told him what they had figured out.
It didn’t take long for Mr. Rouge to understand what they wanted to do. However, he had to remind them of something.
“The saintess will only assist the northern district branch until the raid is over. Even with me, Ms. Astral, and Mr. Zephyr with you, searching and raiding these places when a top member of Gourmet could show up is still too dangerous. We will have to wait.”
Mr. Rouge saw Ms. Snow become a bit saddened by his words. She sacrificed her sleep while thinking of this theory.
Mr. Rouge looked at Mr. Magician and remembered something.
“Mr. Magician. I believe you should try to get your next spirit contract. Do you remember what you did when you became a mystic?
Simply do that again, but this time, I will give you a chant to use when contracting the spirits. The saintess isn’t here to help you this time so don’t even think about contracting a spirit with more than 2 characteristics!”
Mr. Rouge made sure that Mr. Magician understood the danger he was under while becoming a mystic. Last time, Mr. Rouge expected Mr. Magician to contract a spirit with 2 spirit characteristics.
He didn’t worry since the saintess was there to help the newest employee. However, that newest employee returned to the human world with 4 spirit characteristics and a desire for cannibalism.
Mr. Rouge worried greatly about what would happen if that same kid was allowed to do the spirit contracting ritual without anyone’s oversight.
After walking out of Mr. Rouge’s office, Mr. Magician pushed the dejected Ms. Snow towards the temple bedroom. After saying goodnight to her, he walked to the armoury.

There he saw a multitude of weapons and even charms which he only knew of but had never once used before. He picked up an altar, a spirit protection charm, and a vanilla scented candle.
Then he headed for the circular middle platform and set up the same ritual he had used when he first became a mystic… This brings back memories.
Mr. Magician started to reminisce about those times. While it only was earlier this month, to Mr. Magician it felt like a year ago… Is being a mystic always this hectic?
While thinking about the time he became a mystic, he set up the ritual. He brought out his silver dagger but then remembered that he was currently standing on sacred grounds.
There was no need to create a spiritual barrier. Mr. Magician closed his eyes and calmed his mind as he started to look inside of him.
The judging cold gaze and the nefarious smile felt his presence. As if looking at Shade, the two of them reacted, each with its own way to react. The cold gaze blinked, the nefarious smile stopped smiling for only a moment.
Shade didn’t know what the two of them really were. He knew that one of them, most likely the cold gaze was a blessing he received from the goddess.
But what was the nefarious smile. Was it another blessing or was it something else. The two entities within Mr. Magician looked outwards and noticed the altar.
The two entities looked at each other and then at Shade. As if beckoning for his attention, the cold gaze started circling spirituality around it.
Shade looked at the cold gaze, a calm voice reached out to Shade which made him shiver… Don’t worry, we won’t do you any harm.
Shade heard a voice within his mind. It was a voice full of authority and power. It was a voice that would without a doubt belong to one of the greatest saints the Silver Moon had ever created.
Shade felt no fear. He had been ignoring the cold gaze for a week now and he planned to do the same to that nefarious smile. However, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something could happen the moment he entered the spirit world.
Shade sighed as he shifted his gaze towards the altar in front of him. He had gotten his answer.
Shade knew that putting his trust in an unknown entity was one of the dumbest things to do within mysticism. However, the entity he decided to put his trust in was none other than a former saint of his sect.
If Shade couldn’t trust that saint, then the goddess would have told him. After lighting the scented candle, Shade started chanting trice in an ethereal voice.
“Home of Spirits. World of Mysticism. Incarnation of Power. I ask for permission to Enter.”
As if cued to, Shade closed his eyes and then opened them once again and saw a world of light. Shade looked at his surroundings and found it unfamiliar and familiar at the same time.
“Now, what spirit should I contract?”
The nefarious smile within Shade opened its mouth… Find an illusion spirit.
Not showing his surprise, Shade focused on the nefarious smile as he asked a question.
“Why should I find an illusion spirit?”
The nefarious smile was about to answer but the cold gaze decided to interrupt… You have no spirit fit for combat. The power and authority you will gain from contracting anything except a White Entity will be subpar until you gain another one.
“What is a white entity?”
Shade heard an unfamiliar term, he decided to ask the former powerhouse to gather more knowledge in mysticism.
The judging gaze blinked twice before answering… I apologize, I forgot I erased that part.
“What do you mean erased?”
The cold gaze ignored Shade’s question… For now, just focus on contracting either of a divination spirit, an anti-divination spirit, or an illusion spirit.
Though not happy about the fact that he would not get an answer to his question. Shade answered with an irritated tone.
“Alright.”
Shade started searching for an illusion spirit or a type of divination spirit. The spirits in the spirit world looked different from how they looked in the human world.
In the spirit world they had a corporeal form instead of looking like a small cloud. Shade found many types of spirits but not one he was looking for.
The nefarious smile started talking which echoed in Shade’s mind… Old man! Why haven’t we found any spirits we need?”
The cold gaze was quiet for a moment, probably surprised by the fact that he was called an old man… There is no guarantee that we will find our preferred spirit on our first search in the spirit world. And I was still in my twenties when I died!
The nefarious smile laughed as it answered back… And how long ago was that? I received some of your memories when I was created. I believed you died in the year 973.
The cold gaze didn’t say anything, the old man had lost the argument. Shade couldn’t help but think about the current year… 1580.
After looking around for another 20 minutes, Shade felt his spirituality reach its limits. The cold gaze was observing Shade’s current condition and decided to remind him of something… Traveling the spirit world requires spirituality. If you spend too much time here and your spirituality drains, you will be stuck and die.
“I understand, lets return.”
Shade decided to stop traveling the spirit world after hearing no argument from the nefarious smile.
