chapter 6 i miss my home

I have been travelling with Raine to the tree of life for the past two weeks all had been peaceful so far except now I'm face to face with a shadow mimick

  Background: shadow mimick

The shadow mimick is a rank c wanderer that only dwells in the edge of Esbase threads and it feeds on the magic of those threads, but its main appetite is for fools who dare to try and cross its fold. The shadow mimick takes the shadow of every living thing and inevitably if this is done to a living creature with sentience it shatters any and all ability to perceive light and darkness taking the light within them and reducing them to nothing more than emotionless zombies even their expressive traits are taken away making them a lesser form of shadows themselves. Why i say lesser is because there are rumours that the first original shadow was a fallen God who seeks to form and retain their shred of divinity by feeding off the shadows and light of other living beings hoping to restore its own by trying to mimic the light in others. Therefore, shadow mimick.

Fighting a shadow mimick was a death sentence waiting to happen but i knew one thing that this shadow mimick was the beginning of the troubles I would face in Esbase who knew that this side of the forest was so terrifying in a way I missed home but I had a foe in front of me I knew a lot about but not actually the fighting part. while I was deep in thought Raine darted past me with an ungodly speed shooting what seemed like thread magic of the very forest, but I noticed something.

“Raine” I shouted with terror in my voice

“Done gawking at the monster now” he said with sarcasm in his voice

This guy is actually putting up a fight with this creature but what i fail to understand is why all of a sudden he seems a bit different to when we started this journey, but that did not matter as i knew something about this creature that i failed to mention before, it was like the forest was whispering long forgotten secrets to my ears. Raine needed to stop that what i knew then the worst happened.

It grasped unto Raines leg and dragged him into the forest i wondered why it did not take his shadow but worst of all i knew why people ususally avoided this creature rather than fighting it and i had to make a very difficult choice this moment.
