Hizashi No Kage
Chapter - 5
The interview began. The first question was asked by the oldest woman, and she asked it as if she were extremely eager to pose this question. The question was:
“Aakash, in your written exam, for the last question about what you know regarding Fusion Magic, you wrote that the Demon King and Demon Queen could use Fusion Magic. Where did you get this information from?”
Aakash immediately understood that the matter was somewhat serious. He promptly explained that he had never studied in any school, but this information came from a book in the library of Kija city. The elderly woman asked several more questions and took full details about the book.
The point was that the answer Aakash had written was a very big secret, known to only a few people. Among all those who had taken the written exam, no one else knew anything about it. And the book from which Aakash had obtained this information was no ordinary book. No one knew how such a precious book had ended up in the library of a small city.
The elderly woman immediately ordered the book to be seized. An official was dispatched to Kija city right away.
Her name was Sapna Cham-ed-ia Ma’am. She had the most experience in the room. Aakash was instantly impressed by her.
The interview then continued. Many questions were asked of Aakash. Upon learning that he was a woodcutter’s son and got admission to this academy through someone else’s kindness—because Aakash had not told them the full story—several examiners became disappointed.
In total, there were 10 examiners—five mages and five knights—and most of them had already turned against Aakash’s admission. On top of that, no one had liked his swordsmanship during the practical exam. And when he mentioned that he only knew four spells, it was almost certain that his admission would not happen.
Aakash understood everything, but now he was in a dilemma about how to change all these examiners’ opinions.
At that moment, a male examiner shouted,
“Is this some kind of joke? Boy, did you think that just having Light Magic would get you admission? And how is your level 75? It’s impossible. Without any proper training from a Mage, you raised your own level to 75? Do you think we’ll believe you?”
“Sir, when my level was measured in the mana crystal during admission, it came out as 75,” Aakash replied calmly. And then, deliberately, he added, “If you wish, you can test my skills right now.”
This remark stung the examiner, as it had been said in a pointed manner. Arrogantly, he said,
“Fine. Tell us which skills you mentioned. Yes, first that Light Radar skill. Tell us what’s happening at Academy Gate Number One right now.”
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
At this, another examiner interrupted,
“Sir Max, you know how huge this academy is, and yet you gave the farthest gate. Have some consideration.”
Sir Max was about to say something when Aakash spoke up,
“Sir, a large horse-drawn carriage has just entered through Gate Number One, and right behind it came four smaller carriages.”
Everyone was slightly surprised. One examiner immediately used his Wind Radar to check. Aakash was correct. All the examiners were stunned.
But Sir Max immediately said,
“Fine. Now demonstrate your Light Shield.”
He stood up, walked over to Aakash, and said threateningly,
“I’m going to attack you with a magic attack. You have to block it with your Light Shield. That’s it. If you want to back out, do it now—because if you get any permanent injury during this, we won’t be responsible.”
“Yes, sir,” Aakash replied, and with full strength he activated his Light Shield Dome.
Sir Max laughed and launched a massive Fireball attack. The examiner who had interrupted him earlier shouted,
“Sir Max, that’s a Stage 5 attack!”
But the attack had already been launched. When the smoke cleared, everyone saw that Aakash’s shield was completely intact.
But before anyone else could speak, Sir Max shouted,
“One more! Show me you can block one more attack!”
And then he launched a Stage 7 Fireball.
Sapna Ma’am and some of the other examiners shouted,
“Sir Max, what have you done? If that child dies—?”
It had no effect on Sir Max.
But when the smoke cleared and Aakash’s shield was still found perfectly intact, he was left speechless. The other examiners were astonished too. Some even severely condemned Sir Max.
Aakash had had to use all his energy to block that attack, so now he was breathing heavily.
Sapna Ma’am said,
“Son, if you want to leave now, you may. Let’s end the interview.”
“How can that be, Madam? Two of his skills are still left!” Sir Max jumped in again.
This time Sapna Ma’am spoke sternly,
“Max, don’t sink yourself any lower. You’ve already fallen quite a bit.”
Max gritted his teeth and stayed silent.
Aakash took a breath and said,
“Thank you, Ma’am, but the interview will only end when all of you examiners are satisfied.”
“Yes, so now show your healing skill,” Max said.
“On what, sir?” Aakash asked.
One lady examiner said,
“Wait, let’s call someone from the medical room.”
Max immediately replied,
“What’s the need for that?” And he drew his dagger and deeply cut Aakash’s right palm.
Some examiners shouted in protest, but Aakash didn’t even flinch. Quietly, he used healing magic and healed himself.
Everyone was stunned by this too, because normally healing magic shows its effect very slowly, but Aakash’s healing magic worked instantly.
“One final test. Demonstrate your mana sword—the one you call Sword of Light,” Sir Max said.
An iron dummy was brought in, and Aakash was given a wooden sword. He had to destroy the dummy in three strikes.
Aakash channeled magic into the sword and destroyed the dummy in a single strike.
Everyone fell silent. Sir Max’s mouth hung open.
“Aakash, you have proven that dedication and hard work are never wasted. I can see that even though you only know four skills, you have devoted your entire life to them. And with that, I am happy to inform you that you have been accepted into Wand and Sword Academy.”
Sapna Ma’am said all this at the end.
For a moment, Aakash became emotional and teary-eyed, then happily thanked everyone. He especially thanked Sir Max with a big smile.
Max burned with humiliation, but now he could do nothing.
When Aakash reached the inn and told Bob and his parents the news, they were overjoyed and couldn’t contain their happiness.
After completing the fee, hostel, and other formalities, Samuel and Martha returned to Musasia.
Aakash and Bob now settled into their respective hostel rooms. Bob was in the mage students’ hostel, and Aakash in the knights’ students’ hostel.
Aakash thoroughly cleaned his room and arranged his belongings. He placed his beloved axe and flute with great care.
Every student had been given a single room. This was also a good thing for the peace-loving Aakash.
Now, after many days, he finally took a breath of relief.
Elfo city was highly advanced. Aakash hadn’t even properly seen Kamil city, and now he had arrived in a place even more dazzling and magnificent.
And above all this was Wand and Sword Academy.
In just a few days, Aakash’s entire life had changed. It would take him some time to digest these changes.
