"It should have been obvious." Dan shook his head as he spoke to Robert, "And I did consider it, I just had no proof so I never focused on it much."
"Same," Robert said, "The idea that we should be getting experience through doing things related to our Classes was brought by the people here and there, we just never had the proof, till now I guess."
The two friends were sitting in the Skyline, having just talked with Nulara. They managed to gather that gradually getting bits of experience while doing activities related to your Class was to be expected, and that occasionally, you would get a level up from that.
"So," Robert said after taking a sip from his cup, "What skills did you get?"
"I delayed looking at them till after getting more information from Nulara," Dan answered as he looked into the air, "Let me take a look."
Personal skills choice available, you may choose 1 of the next three skills, or skip the current skill choice,
-Harpoon Throw
-Battlefield Awareness
-Fog Piercer
"What's the relaxed sigh for?" Robert chuckled before Dan could say anything.
"It was that clear huh?" Dan laughed too. "And yeah, the skills aren't that good this time. The first and second might still be of use somehow, but the third could be ignored, might grow to something in the future but that's for later.
"Harpoon Throw makes you extremely proficient at throwing harpoons, I won't doubt that at later tiers it wouldn't be much weaker than a cannonball, but that's all. Battlefield Awareness is good too, but it only shows you the location of ships in a radius of 1 nautical mile around you. It's a weaker version of Keith's skill so that one's out too. And the last is Fog Piercer, as the name suggests, it's a skill that makes you see clearly through fog, I can see the effect maybe even including seeing through illusions or the like, but it would be at much later tiers, I don't want to take my chances with it."
"We are close to tier 2." Robert nodded. "We should have our first tier 2 soon, can't wait to see the upgrades we might get."
"They shouldn't be that big right?" Dan wondered, "I mean it's just one tier up, no?"
"Who knows." Robert shrugged. "We will have to wait and see for ourselves."
"By the way, how is the preparation for the material list going?" Dan suddenly asked after the conversation went silent for a few minutes, "We should aim to get everything we need, now that we are going to shore exactly for resupplying."
"I've had Nik and Nancy on it," Robert said, "I think we might be hit with quite the shopping list though, many of our people are held back by not having materials for their Classes."
"I did think that that might turn out to be the case, but it is what it is." Dan shrugged helplessly. "We have to get them what they need. We need them to level up, so that of course means that we should provide them with the best environment we could, it's only natural."
"Okay, I will talk to Nik and Nancy later, see how things are going on their side," Robert finally said, "We still have time before having to leave for shore, so we don't really need it anytime soon."
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
They then finished their breakfast before making their way to the bridge. Dan raised an eyebrow when he saw both Marcus and Old Raily there, they seemed to be deep into some discussion.
"Hey guys," he greeted, "What's the matter? Why are you so serious this early in the morning?"
The two greeted them back before Marcus answered,
"We are going through a list of who we should prioritise for power levelling."
"Oh, what does it look like so far?" Robert asked in interest.
"The first person on it is the Captain," Old Raily answered, "The stronger he is, the stronger the Voyager, we need this ship to grow, her skills could be extremely useful for us."
"Same could be said for Fleta and Linda," Marcus added, "Getting those two more abilities or just raising the tier of their current abilities would be of great use to us. Fleta is our best healer and Linda has that Alchemical Touch skill going for her. Both need to grow."
Dan nodded. The more levels he got the stronger the Voyager would be, that's without mentioning how after last night's level up, he only needed 1 more level to get one more skill from the Voyager.
"Helping Sam grow his swarm would be a good idea too," he brought up something that had been on his mind.
"I did bring that up with him," Marcus easily answered, having already looked into the matter, "His tamed monsters share whatever experience they get with him, so he doesn't need our help that much. Might be the fastest-growing individual amongst us. And it's needed, hopefully the 2nd tier for his taming skill would give him more taming slots. I know that Swarmers are okay with just following the lead of those 10 he has control over, but it's still too risky to have those wild ones around us all the time without being under his full control."
"I think those along with the guards are a good patch to start with," Old Raily said.
"Okay, it's decided then." Dan nodded.
"With that dealt with." Marcus looked at everyone around. "We are leaving this area tonight. Is everything ready?"
"As could be, I guess," Robert replied, "We have dealt with the pressing problem of the guards. We did lose Sam, but with his new swarm, I think he is as much help as the others. And Luke showed some interest in joining, even though he's going to have to split his time between being with the guards and helping with any production tasks that might be ongoing."
Luke was one of the engineers before they got to this new world, Talia, the Class he got was Metal Sorcerer. At level one he didn't have to choose from a group of skills, he was only given one, Heart of Metal, it was a skill that let him reshape any kind of metal mentally. He had been claimed by William for their coming Bullets Reloading Line as soon as he knew about his ability, and Dan couldn't really blame him, the man was a heaven-sent for any project.
"How is the dent the Voyager got?" Marcus turned his attention to William. "Has it fully healed yet?"
"Yes." William nodded. "It's back to being perfect again, we don't have to worry about it."
"Everything is good on my side and the Voyager's," Dan said once he saw the chief security officer look at him, "We are as good as we could be, we can move at any moment."
"We will keep to our plan, we will leave at night." Marcus here stopped before turning to Dan. "You are only 1 level away from getting 1 more skill for the Voyager, we will try to get it before we start on our journey."
"Okay." Dan didn't hesitate. If they could push him enough to get that one level, then the skill the Voyager would get might be of great help.
The Voyager's skills were all useful in their own ways. Enshrouding Fog might be the least useful one yet, but even that had been useful enough many times. Linked didn't need to be mentioned, and as for Specialised Rooms, Dan was going to make sure that whatever materials they would need for making those rooms would be purchased. He was looking forward to what the next level up might bring the Voyager.
"I noticed how our guns weren't as useful as I would have liked for creatures underwater while we were experimenting with the protective circle yesterday," Marcus said, "But that could be fixed. I remember how while fighting those monsters that were chasing us, Natalie's spell made our bullets extremely strong. That should be enough for now, so she will be with us on the boat."
In the end, the team joining Dan and Marcus on the tender included Ricky, Natalie and Sam. Ricky was there as the pilot again, while Sam was mainly there so he could direct his swarm to go hunt. He could do it from the Voyager, but considering that they were already going, having him join would be great both as an added protection measure and for him to get used to directing his tamed monsters.
So around midday, after lunch, a tender left the Voyager.
