Chapter 9

After that day, Meteora's once sleepy and sloth like days were busy but not unpleasant. Allowing him to discover many things over his freshman year.

Some were about himself as he still searched for what made him comfortable with himself while still diligently eating the fruit as always. A new change had happened though, his system had reacted to what he was attempting for his project, offering a reward upon successful 'automation' outside the Ocean of Consciousness. Reminding him of his real genre, Idler.

Some were about Sonny, Merida and Tori. Every time he had gone to them to bounce off ideas or hiccups he felt he had hit, they always made the time for him. Not like he was a student, but what he had read in books that family would do for each other. Sonny and Merida radiated maternal energy as he spoke to them and referenced his knowledge with theirs, each word that came from them was gentle guidance like a parent. It was weird, but not unwelcome. Then there was Tori, who just radiated what always felt like proud and excited energy whenever it came to him talking to her about his newest findings or sometimes even just random conversation if she managed to get him to keep going.

Then, there was the twins. Who, like Sonny, Merida and Tori. Stayed by his side and even stayed to help him when he would hit a snag with the project and would need help right then and there, even if he refused to admit he needed the assistance. And while he would never readily admit it, even though the disruption of his peace sometimes annoyed him. He truly felt grateful to them.

Soon, it was graduation day of the twins.

Seris and Elowen stood there, talking to their classmates excitedly about plans of going into gates once more now that school was finally over, and that their parents had planned a massive gate crawl for them to do the next three years.

Meteora who had come to congratulate them paused before he could be seen, feeling an unfamiliar pang in his chest before shaking his head and walking up. His gaze calm and emotionless as usual as he walked past the people wanting to wish the two good luck.

"Hey, congrats. Guess you worried for nothing, Seris" He said deadpan, trying to make a joke about him freaking out about finals.

"I... won't keep you long, I saw your parents looking for you both." He produced two small boxes and shoved one into each of their hands.

When the twins open the boxes, they were greeted with custom pendants that were obviously meant for them, both emitting a soft silvery glow.

"The... purity tests took longer than anticipated. Each pendant is made of one hundred percent pure raw Aetherium ore sand." He explained, turning his back on them. "I don't care what you do with them. I just don't want to feel like I owe you both. Congratulations again." He curtly said, before stiffly walking away, not even giving the twins the time to reply.

As he disappeared into the crowd and vanished, the twins exchanged soft knowing looks before Seris looked to see if the pendants came with a chain to wear his.

What he was met with instead under the stuffing made him squeal in absolute delight, not once, but twice when he saw the Elowen had it as well.

Underneath the stuffing in elegant handwriting was the one thing Seris had been begging Meteora to give them both for all these years, and finally had it.

  Meteora's contact number.
