Let me open this fanfic by saying I don't like Naruto as a story all that much.
To put it bluntly, I hate inconsistencies, especially when they are present at the foundations of a setting.
When a setting establish some rules and then immediately break them for no fucking reason, that leaves me fuming inside.
And Naruto does that shit all the fucking time.
As a battle shonen, Naruto does this with its POWER SYSTEM of all things, and this is just … Not okay for me.
So this first chapter is a long rant about why the mechanics of Naruto are ASS.

Number One: Chakra Magic.
The foundational piece of the whole power system the setting uses … It should be well explained, right ? …
Well, let's ask some simple questions …
Starting with … What is it ?
At the beginning of the series chakra is something that a ‘ninja’ has to make by mixing their Physical Energy (Stamina) and their ‘Spiritual Energy’ …
Now, let this settle in … chakra has to be made, it's not present in a ‘pool’ inside a person, it's something they have to make as needed … They have to MAKE chakra to use it and this is the Key for chakra control, making only what you need …
This is what is established initially … Now cut a few episodes in and chakra is suddenly a magical life-force. Each living being has it, people have a whole circulatory system for chakra inside them, and ‘Valves’ (eight inner gates) to regulate the flow of it like magical blood … Release the valves and chakra flows faster and all of that …
This breaks the rule previously established that chakra has to be made … First of all, it can't be life force because as established before, chakra doesn't exist unless the ninja MAKES IT … that also puts a damper in the whole eight inner gates system … your body wouldn't have something to ‘limit’ the flow of chakra because again … YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT AS NEEDED.
So that's already a hole in the basics of the power system … but nothing too big … Yet …

Cut some more episodes in, and there is now this whole ‘other’ chakra that is the ‘actual’ life force of things, but ‘nature’ things, and it's always there in the fucking thin air … It's the true life force of Nature but somehow different from the normal chakra (that's also life-force) …
This breaks the rules again …
It breaks the rules that were already broken even … but still … not all that ‘GLARING’ you know ? Up til now you can kind of limp along …
Cut towards the end of the series and suddenly, chakra is an ALIEN energy made by a bioweapon designed to suck all life on a planet and convert it to ‘chakra’.
Now that's … that's just stupid … it breaks the whole fucking thing … This breaks the rules to the point that it's comical … nothing makes sense anymore and this is the ‘cannon’ bullshit…

Chakra also has ‘rigidity’ and some sort of ‘mass’ to it (Rasengan, Kaiten …), so it can be a physical barrier and also ‘grind’ and by logic alone, also cut stuff … Chakra behaves like an ‘energy construct’ …
Chakra also enhances your body passively (Releasing the eight inner gates, sage mode …), so just ‘having’ a lot of chakra flowing inside you, gives you superhuman physical abilities …
Okay … those are ‘raw’ chakra uses
You can: Stick, Repel, make ‘physical energy’ objects and it also passively makes you ‘super’.
Cool … Let's go to the basic jutsus now …

How about when Naruto was fighting transformed Gaara with Gamabunta, and Naruto used the jutsu to transform Gamabunta into the Nine Tails, so Gamabunta could have a better grip against the transformed Gaara ? …
Yeah, that shit was NEVER an ‘illusion’, it was always a literal shapeshift …
And before anyone starts saying this is a ‘Naruto special’ … Sasuke tossed Naruto as a shuriken.
Sasuke saw it, Kakashi saw it, Zabuza saw it … it was never brought up that they found it weird or different … So no, that's not a ‘Naruto’ special, that's how the jutsu normally works, because everyone else was not impressed by how RULE BREAKING Naruto doing that shit was.

The Sharingan is glazed endlessly as this ultra mega hyper powerful thing but remember that we only see uchihas who are PLOT LOVED.

If the eyes were as powerful as they are advertised to be, the uchiha would be GODS walking the earth, but they WEREN'T.
They were just another clan fighting for power against other clans.
So the Sharingan can't be as BUSTED as advertised …

The Edo-Tensei, the biggest bullshitiest jutsu of them all … it's just not even a fair comparison.
Let's start with what it does … You rip a soul out of its eternal rest, bind that shit to a sacrifice you just made and now you have that soul piloting an immortal vessel that has regeneration and basically infinite energy … WHAT ?!
How ?! Just … HOW ?!?!
Is the jutsu self-sustaining ? Where is the chakra coming from ? … WTF is that ?! … Does the afterlife have chakra ? … HOW does the soul have chakra ?! And an INFINITE AMOUNT OF IT ?!
The story established that chakra is THREE DIFFERENT THINGS … NONE OF THEM a dead soul and a dead body can have.
Chakra is a mixture of spiritual and physical energy … alright, the soul doesn't have physical energy and the body you just killed at best had a LIMITED amount of it, no INFINITE energy for you.
Chakra is life-force with ‘nature’ tossed into the mix … the soul is dead and so is the body that was sacrificed … no ‘Life-energy’ there for you … and as for Nature … it was established that there is a limited ‘concentration’ of it all around, it was ESTABLISHED that some places, like toads summon mountain, have WAY MORE than the normal amount, that's why they love there …
So even if the Edo Tensei used ‘natural energy’, it still wouldn't be INFINITE.
The last one is that chakra is an ALIEN energy that is pissed out of their biosuperweapon …
No INFINITE energy there eighter …
Actually, the afterlife CAN'T even have chakra … at all … None of the three ways chakra exists in the series allow for an afterlife …
Just … NOTHING in this jutsu makes sense, and even developing this bullshit would automatically make you super-evil …
The second Hokage was just straight up evil … Because he didn't get the jutsu right the first time, there is no way that's even remotely possible … so he did a LOT of human sacrifices and experiments with the ‘Souls’ of the deceased …
That's just Lich-Evil right there … can't argue against the results though, anyone with a bare minimum of competency would just be immortal and almost invincible with this shit …

For one thing, it is said they work by using your chakra to fuck with the other person senses and shit … Alright … And how does AOE genjutsus even function then ? Each person has a different chakra, and different perception and different everything … your jutsu is adjusting to each one on the fly ? … Also … You're not ‘just’ messing with the senses, you're doing much, much more … and just like with the Yamanaka, there is a LOT of unexplored shit there … mostly because the Magic Red Eyes took this whole modality for them …
Sure, the Magic Red Eyes let you cast genjutsu easily … Yeah … So ? … That means you have it easier, not that you're the only one that can do this shit …
Let's talk a bit about that skill from the Magic Red Eyes …
‘Unbreakable genjutsu’ … First of all, that's just glazing … and Second, so what ? … Yamanaka also has that … the mind transfer is one and done deal too … and that’s a jutsu that a sorry excuse of a genin (Ino) can do … no Hyper Leveled up Eyes needed … So … Yeah, not that scary in comparison.
While on the Magic Red Eyes theme … let’s talk about one of the biggest plot holes I hate about them.
Ignoring how ‘op’ they are (they can't be that strong, mostly because the uchiha as a whole WEREN'T that strong, so the eyes ain't that big of a shit, it's just the people we SEE with them being protagonists, like I ranted about before) … let's focus on the Kotoamatsu-something … Shisui’s hypnosis eyeballs.
It was said they have a cooldown of ten years after a single use or some bullshit … First of all, how would they know ? … Each eye power is kind of unique for that person and manifesting the manguekyo is a RARE occurrency … Shisui didn't have enough time to know that his eye power has a ten year cooldown between uses, he wasn't old enough for this … that's means this ten years is just a made up number … that's straight up a made up number with NOTHING backing it up … it's pure bullshit …

Sniper Eyes … they have super sniper eyes … and the whole clan focused on melee combat …
The Juken Style … one poke in the right place and it's death … oh Yeah ? … so does a Kunai … or any other lethal weapon …
“But they can disable your limbs” … Yeah, so does a weapon … Actually, a weapon would be way better because of something called RANGE ADVANTAGE … besides, have you tried to move your arm with your muscles cut ? … Yeah … you lost the arm, same thing a juken does, but with the added benefit that your enemy is also bleeding out now …
But let's ignore it, let’s focus on the martial art and how it works … bad news people, it just doesn't …
To put it bluntly, you poke at a place SO FUCKING SMALL YOU NEED MICROSCOPIC X RAY VISION EYES TO SEE and relase a burst of chakra to close that REALLY SMALL ‘pressure point’ (tekentsu) … And if you don't hit it perfectly, it doesn't work. (Because if it did work, then the Byakugan wouldn't be a requirement to use the style, it would be something anyone could learn ) …
So stay with me on this … the Byakugan gives you super vision, but not super reflexes like the Sharingan does … that's literally stated … Byakugan gives you SUPER vision and nothing else …
Using Juken … You are trying to hit a REALLY FUCKING SMALL place, with a very precise strike … On a MOVING OPPONENT that's ACTIVELY defending himself … And you have to be ABSOLUTELY precise, or else it doesn't do shit …
Doing ANYTHING ELSE would be easier, hells, just stabbing them will probably do even MORE Damage then your impossible fingers pokes.
For fucks sake, we saw Neji using that shit on Naruto and ‘wow’ after dozens of hits, Naruto is kind of knocked out … ‘kind off', cause he got up after a minute down (which should already have disqualified him, but it's Naruto, the plot armor is THICK).
… Imagine if instead of finger pokes, Neji used a Kunai … Boom … Mind Blown … Now Naruto is DEAD …
… See the difference ? … The Juken Style makes zero fucking sense as is … and thats besides the fact that … WHY ARE THEY FIGHTING MEELE WITH SNIPER EYES AS A SUPER POWER ?!?! For fucks sake, is there a single NOT brain dead hyuuga ever ?!?!

Also, another thing I hate is how slow jutsus are compared with how fast the characters are …
Remember the fight with Zabuza and Kakashi ? … That water Dragon jutsu took forever to come out, Kakashi could have tossed a Kunai, run up to Zabuza, kicked the shit out of him, drank some water, had breakfast and taken a nap in the time it took for the jutsu to be cast …
But this is an egregious example, even the ‘fast’ jutsus still make your hands busy doing complex movements that have to be perfectly executed …
… if you have space, great, but if you're in melee or just CLOSE to a fast opponent … they will just take the opportunity of your lowered guard and bonk you in the head or throw something at you …
… and guess what ? Now you have to stop your hand seals to defend yourself, thereby wasting your time because you will have to start the string of handseals again …
… it just doesn't work in a fight against fast characters and almost EVERYONE is hella fast in naruto, hells, super-speed with the ‘shushin’ stuff its RIGHT THERE … Substitution too if you remember it.
Any time someone threatens to make hand seals that are just slightly too long, the opponent would already be on top of them … or ready to dodge …
… so normal ninjutsu only wastes chakra in a fight …
… That's the ‘power system’ of the setting … it's just … not consistent … at all …

Yeah, the Biju, they were made by the ‘Sage’ and tasked to protect and guide Humans … they did it for a while because they liked their father …
So there was a time when Naruto's mankind was protected and guided by literal gods … where is that history ? What happened there ? …
There is no way THE WHOLE humanity turned against their protectors, religion and faith are powerful fucking tools and the Biju are literal, physical GODS … there would be holy wars galore before the bijus decided to turn their backs and let humans do their thing alone … and there would be a vast number of people REALLY FUCKING MAD with everyone else for making their gods give up on them …

Oh yeah, we can't forget that they also have radio communication, portable ones at that … that they used to catch a cat … and then never touched it again, despite how useful that shit would be everywhere else …
How about vehicles ? … Well, in the Wave Arc with Zabuza and shit, we can clearly see heavy duty construction equipment on the bridge … so … where is the INDUSTRY to make that shit ?!
Industrial and Modern … Naruto had modern tech at LEAST … And that's also a setting brimming with war where tossing Kunais and Shuriken is still an effective way to fight …
Where are the guns ? Where is the Military equipment ?! …
It makes no fucking sense for them to develop their tech as much as they had without anything being used for war …
That's, simply speaking, nonsense …
Either Naruto is feudal tech, or ninjas would be rocking guns and ‘gun-fu’ would be the preferred ninja martial art.

This power division only makes sense if the ninjas are a special force and not the bulk of the military power of a nation …
And keep in mind, the normal soldiers would have to be super powered too … Because ninjas are stealthy, genjutsu is basically mind control and they can shape shift with HENGE …
If the daimios can be mind controlled or just replaced with no one being the wiser … Kages can do whatever they want … The Daimios power ain't real …
And that takes us to what we saw on the invasion Arc, with the Sand invading the Leaf with Orochimaru …
Sand was invading because … funding issues ? … Why didn't they send a ninja to genjutsu their problems away ? … Why not kill the daimio and put a henged ninja in his place ? … How can there be ‘funding’ issues pertaining to a super powers Military organization with no repercussions to the leadership ? … Well … simply put, this is just the nail on the coffin of ninja power or the logic behind the division of power.
Ninjas either aren't the military power of the world, they are a paramilitary organization … a private mercenary organization with some state contracts and bindings … Ninja Wars are Corporation Wars … throughout the whole series, we never actually saw the real ‘bulk’ of the world's military … even when Madara was threatening some world ending shit, they were still doing a ‘secret’ war between themselves …
Or they are the only Military power there … and that just can't be it, there are not enough of them for that …
So Ninjas CAN'T be the world's military power … they just can't, too many things would make zero sense if they were …

Ninjas aren't the only ones to use chakra … we saw in the series itself that there were monasteries with monks using it, there are also samurais … and we also know that, despite conflicting evidence, chakra is in everyone …
Alright … What's the deal with hand signs ?
What they DO ?
How were they even invented ?!
Those hand positions aren't natural and they have to be combined to do a jutsu …
How did that thing even emerge ? …
Keep in mind that a lot of chakra uses require NO hand signs, and that specific hand signs for specific jutsus exist, like shadow clones … and there are also one handed hand signs like Haku did …
There is also Sasuke using Naruto's hands with his to make hand signs for his jutsus (their final battle) … What ?
… And one more thing … the hands signs, even when needed … they aren't actually needed … There are countless jutsus that require NO hand signs if you just get good at doing them, and the better you are the less signs you make … There is also music jutsus being cast out of flutes or bells … so … what's the deal ?
They aren't needed, they aren't really convenient for fast use, instruments can take their place … What do they do ?! … They kind of help to make ‘bigger’ jutsu ? … Maybe ? …
Look, what I can do for it is this …
Hand signs are like charging up a Kamehameha, do a bunch of them properly and your jutsu gets a big umph in power … that's basically what I can do for them … everything else is kind of proved to ‘NOT’ be a thing …
Soooo … I'll do different castings for different things. Maybe, still iffy on further content.
Taijutsu ‘jutsus’ will be performed like Avatar’s Elemental Bending, with movements and ‘katas’ and shit like that … this makes way more sense from a development perspective.
Ninjutsu will be like artillery, long range, big aoe and big charging times.
Genjutsu will operate via prestidigitation, hypnosis, ‘smoke and mirrors’, like real life magic tricks and illusions with the help of ‘actual magic' … Messing with people's brains will be a higher level of performance, because that shit is supposed to be hard.
“But genjutsu will be weak like this” … No ? It will be actually used as it's supposed to, to cause distractions and make openings … make your opponent think there is a Kunai coming from his back and then stab him in the ensuing distraction, make him think you are slightly out of range, when instead, you can actually stab him at a moment's notice.
Genjutsu is supposed to be efficient ‘illusions’ and ‘sneaky’ shit … make the opponent think you just cast a big fireball, so he counters with a big defensive jutsu of his own but oops, it was just an illusion and you made your opponent waste a lot of chakra.
It's not supposed to be “I Cast Chromatic Wall”, you failed your save and are now out of combat until someone shakes you out of it …
