After leaving the hospital, the rest of the day went as planned. The only difference was that the gym was bulletproofed when they arrived in the morning and he was able to do combat against armed opponents, both Amelia and Gabriela.
It was weird to have guns shooting at him and many people approached Hector, who was standing at the door to show that the police already knew about the problems with the place.
The day went as planned, training, brewery for the girls, dinner and Soul Contracts for Emilio.
Before going to sleep Emilio decided to check the progress of his Skills again. The next day was Thursday. That meant he was going to take another Trial and, if everything went well, he would have more Skills.
Is this what happens when you reach 100%? There was no notification or anything. It just says Rank 1. It is kind of underwhelming.
Also, now I understand why Tuor said it was impossible to reach 100% in a few days. I only reached 29% in Soul Contract and had to pass away from tiredness once to reach it.
Emilio looked at his Skills and had an idea to try something. He knew it was not going to work but wanted to know what was going to happen.
‘Upgrade Regeneration.’
That verifies that when I Rank Up I will be able to Rank it up too.
After checking the Skills, Emilio went to sleep. The next day he was going to have a long day that started with going to the hospital.
The next morning didn't go as expected, Emilio didn’t even reach the door of the hospital and he was ambushed by Noel because there was an emergency.
There had been a car crash overnight where a drunk driver hit a family car. There was a sleeping child inside and the little boy was in critical condition. The parents had already agreed to the experimental treatment if it meant that the child would live.
The wounds were severe, but they were technically wounds that the body could heal, that was if he didn’t pass away first.
Emilio decided to rush as fast as possible and he forgot to cover his body and face. He had to be stopped by Noel, who insisted that even though it was an emergency, his confidentiality was still a necessity. After all, if he didn’t have the need to practice his healing, he wouldn’t have even been notified at all.
Emilio went to the surgery room as fast as he could with the coat on but disheveled. As soon as he entered he was surprised to find that the little boy was not unconscious. He was lying in bed but with his eyes fully open.
He was about to ask about the issue when the doctor in charge approached him.

“Hello miracle man, it is nice to meet you. I am in charge of this case.”
“Nice to meet you, why do you call me that?”
“Your name is confidential, but we all know of your existence and that is what we decided to call you. After all, you are doing miracles. Should we change the name?”
Emilio realized that they would have to call him something, and miracle man was not that bad of a name. “No problem, why is he not unconscious?”
“There was no time, we were working to keep him stable and take out all the glass shards in his body. We knew you would arrive soon and you are his best chance. It was better to focus to prepare him for your healing.”
“Do you know the pain he would suffer if he is awake?”
“Yes, but life before pain. Once he is stable we can let him rest and sedate him. The parents were advised on the fact and know it might lead to long term trauma.”
“Shit, I don’t want to be the cause of a trauma.”
“It’s trauma or death at this rate. Are you up to the situation?”
Emilio looked at the boy, who was bleeding all over the bed and knew that it was quite possible that he was not going to live much longer without his help. He took a deep breath, but didn’t hesitate anymore. “Yes. Does he know about the pain?”
“We told him, but I don’t think he really understood.”
That made Emilio hesitate a little, but he focused on the state of the boy again and all hesitation vanished. If the other choice was death, then the choice was easy.
“I will heal him only until he is stable,” Emilio decided, “You have to guide me on the critical body parts that need immediate healing.”
“At your order,” The doctor agreed and focused on saving another life.
The healing process was much messier than any other. Not only was he lethally wounded and there was blood everywhere, but he was also a kid.
As soon as the healing started, the kid understood another level of pain, even more than what he was feeling before. The medical team already knew what to expect and they had tied him to the bed for him to not be able to move and make the healing faster. Given the situation, it was better to have less time of healing than him not being tied.
Emilio spent more than half an hour healing the boy, before the doctors cleared him as stable. They decided to go beyond what they would usually consider as stable, because the boy was going to fall unconscious from the pain and he might end up in a critical state again.
One thing was sure, the kid was going to have trauma over that night, but he was going to be alive. He might even be able to have a full recovery.
After the healing of the child, Emilio was mentally exhausted. Not like when he used the Soul Contract Skill, but in an emotional way. Watching a kid tear his throat shouting for an hour because of what you are doing was a torture in itself. Luckily the boy was saved, which left a good feeling in the end, but it was still not nice.
After healing the boy, he went back to the room he was in the previous day to keep with the regular healing, but the hospital would not let him go that easily. There were several limit cases for him to treat that they had prepared to understand the limits of his Skill.
The first one was the woman who had severed her whole arm. It was reattached, but still healing. Given that it was already reattached, it would heal on its own and they thought he might be able to heal it.
It worked perfectly, the woman left the room intact, well unconscious but her arm was full. This meant he couldn’t regenerate an arm, but he could reattach it. The hospital was going to check things like reflexes and let him know of her capabilities when she woke up.
After that, there was a person who seemed fine, at least when he was unconscious. He just had the flu and the hospital wanted to check if he could heal diseases too. They started with a low risk one just to check if it was possible.
They decided he would spend 10 minutes healing him. If this worked he would start changing the time in more experiments the next day.
After that, he had to heal two broken arms, but the hospital decided to test if putting it in a cask beforehand made a difference. It surprisingly did. The fact that the bones were stuck in the correct place made the healing 25 percent faster. It was not a lot, but given that Emilio was with them only two hours a day, it was worth it.
During the time he was at the hospital he also received the parents of the child he treated. They insisted on thanking him personally after he had saved their son, both of them had wounds from the car crash but they were not serious.
Emilio was honest with them and apologized for the pain he caused and possible trauma, but they didn’t care about that. They were just thankful his son was alive and recovering. In the end, he could only pray for the kid to get over the trauma fast.
After his shift, Emilio left for his home. It was decided that they would not go to the Gym on Thursdays to prepare for the Starter Trial.
They didn’t even need to discuss which Stat they would try to improve. Both Emilo and Amelia only had one that was lower than the others and therefore easier to improve. Emilio would choose Energy and Amelia would choose Vitality.
