Emilio connected to his working computer on time as he promised. He didn’t really know what to expect on that day, but he knew he had to report to Milagros before he started training.
He checked his calendar for the day and found a meeting with her at the first hour of the morning, which meant it was right at that moment. He also found another meeting after half an hour. When he checked with whom, he was thankful that he was seated or he would have fallen to the floor.
“Why the hell do I have a meeting with the Global CEO?” Emilio asked as he realized that maybe he had even more pull than he thought with his results.
He decided to enter his meeting with Milagros to have a better idea on what was really going on. She wouldn’t throw him to a meeting like this without preparing him.
When he connected, Milagros was already waiting for him.
“Good morning Mili, may I know what is going on with the next meeting?” Emilio asked as soon as he connected.
“Good morning Emi, that meeting means that I had to work an unknown number of overtime hours yesterday for you. You are welcome by the way,” Milagros answered. “Did you have a good day yesterday?”
“You know that didn’t answer anything, don’t you? I had a good day training with my niece. It’s incredible what we can do now.”
“Did she get a good enhancement too?”
“Yes. A bit worse than me, but she is kind of a superhuman now too. On a side note, you should really take the Trials as soon as possible.”
“Yeah, I would have taken them yesterday if it wasn't for a really talented employee that threatened to have a long term leave and made a mess out of the whole leadership. If everything goes well today, I might take the afternoon off to rest a while and take the Trials.”
“Great, it's a good idea to be well rested. So, what's the deal with Marcos?”
“Do you have any idea on the average original Stats and earned Stats in the Trial?”
“I looked it up yesterday. I don’t really know the statistics of the original stats, but 3 is kind of good isn’t it? About the increases I read that it was 50% chance of not improving, 40% of 1 and 10% of more.”
“Not bad, but we have some more information. Everyone's Energy Stat is always 1. For the other Stats, the chance of someone having a Stat in 3 is around 1%, but that person might also have one of the other stats in 1. The fact that you had 3 points in Mind makes you a top 1%.
“Then we have the increases in the Trial. You are right about those numbers, but you are missing some information. The chance of earning 3 points is one percent while only one in a thousand might earnt 4 points. We are not completely sure, but we believe that the increases keep going up by an order of ten.
“Given that you earned 4 points, that makes you a one in a thousand top talent. But there is something else. We have enough data to believe that people who did the Trial in their highest base Stat, performed better. In your case, you earned 4 points in one of your lower Stats, which means you can perform even better with the Mind Stat.

“With your potential, you got the attention of the higher ups when I tried to support you. Your information kept going up the ladder until it reached Marcos.”
“Am I that good for real? Damn it's good to be talented. And Ami is not that bad either, though she did make the Trial in her highest Stat.” Emilio took a deep breath and readied for his next meeting. One he was not expecting at all. “So… What should I expect from the meeting?”
“I was not told completely, but I can tell you my assumption. They will support you in whatever you need. With your results, you are a real talent. As long as you keep yourself a talent, you will be one of the most important people in the future. They will try to tie you to the company. At the same time, they won’t be too harsh with you. You’ve worked here for years and showed your loyalty by asking for time off instead of just quitting or disappearing.”
“If I understand this correctly, they want to keep ties with a future talent even if they don’t know what it means. Also, I have the advantage here, right? Should I push in the negotiations or be soft?”
“Ask whatever you want. As long as it is somewhat reasonable they won’t let you go. Just have your priorities in line.
“I have a warning. I didn’t talk to you today and you started your day at 9:30. Marcos wanted your meeting to be the very first thing of the day, but I couldn’t let you meet with him without a heads up. I told them that you were going to connect at 9:30.”
Emilio smiled when he heard what her manager said. Those were the reasons he respected her so much. Even if she had to plot against the CEO, she was going to do it to protect those under her. That was also why her team was a top performer. A good manager makes a good team.
“Thank you very much Mili! Let me help you too. Go do the Trials as soon as possible. Do not, by any reason, delay it after Wednesday.”
“Sure, just keep me posted on the results of the meeting.”
After hanging up, Emilio decided to take Milagros advice and think about what his priorities were.
First of all, his main priority was his family. Whatever decision he took, he had to do it with them in mind. Nicole was in the US and she had a whole lot of important people around. She could definitely take care of herself, but Amelia was another issue altogether.
Not only was the hyperactive girl interested in the System, she was kind of talented given the statistics Milagros gave him. That meant he had to consider her in his plans.
The second thing he had to consider no matter what was that he had to get used to his new Skills and on how to use the Vitality. At the same time, he had to learn how to use the Void Twin Daggers. Amelia also had to learn to use the gun.
Following that same train of thought, given that there would be some kind of test for the whole planet and they were provided weapons, he needed to learn how to fight for real.
Of course, at the moment, the most important thing of all was to pass more Trials. Given what Tuor said, he believed that the training was his best chance to do that.
Once his mind reached Tuor, he started to think about what he said. If things went bad, they might get invaded and might need to join some kind of clan.
If it was like that, it might be a good idea to convince Tuor to get him into the clan, or better yet convince him that his world was worthy, the whole world. He was interested in technology, so he might need to get him a cell phone… Maybe with a solar charger if that exists. If he had no technology for sure he had no electricity and a normal charger was not going to work.
That was just a backup plan if they get invaded, but the best solution was to not get invaded at all. Maybe, what he really should do is to try to make sure that the world knows what to expect.
When he reached that conclusion, Emilio smiled. He had realized he just had the perfect chance to expose the world to his knowledge. Especially if he could do it via corporate means and not expose himself.
For the moment, it was time to finally meet Marcos Di Tella and he had managed to make a plan thanks to Milagros heads up.
