DMS Chapter 13

  DMS Chapter 13

Flinx commanded Pip to fly high up in the sky. He was half expecting his familiar to be attacked by airborne monsters, but thankfully, there seemed to be none nearby. After several minutes, he got the hang of using the owl's eyes to check the surrounding forest.

Everything he could see was forest. It was like a huge emerald ocean, but he did see a shadow of a city or town far in the distance. Flinx then realized that he didn’t know what direction the city, or the kingdom, was located, so he immediately purchased a compass for 5 dollars from the shopping site. After a few minutes of figuring out his location in relation to his familiar and the compass, he realized that the city was to the west. Huge mountains were located to the south. He did see a road, but it was far to the east of where he was, and it would probably take him a few hours to reach that road.

After checking out the distant location, Flinx focused on the nearby ones. Goosebumps grew on his skin when he saw that there were several groups of monsters nearby. The owl saw kobolds, orcs, goblins, forest wolves, and other monsters that he didn’t know the names of. That meant that he was in an extremely hostile environment.

He did notice that the area near the roads had fewer monsters, so his decision to go there was the correct one, but Flinx knew that battle would be inevitable.

Flinx knew that he was more than ready to fight it out with the monsters. His spells were ready, and they were all powerful, but to be honest, he didn’t want to fight so soon after he escaped the world where the wizards imprisoned him. He then remembered that he could cast the Invisibility spell to avoid the monsters and the Fly spell to move near the roads to avoid fighting.

He knew that it would be better for him to just fight it out with the monsters, since not only they might provide experience points that would increase his class level, they might even provide him mana stones, which was needed for him to purchase his spells and items from the shopping site, but again, he was a little heartbroken and tired and would prefer combatting monsters when he was ready to do so. So he commanded Pip to fly in front of him and act as his scout, and then Flinx cast the Fly spell and the Invisibility spell. He then started moving towards where the road was located. He flew just above the tree line, and he felt the exhilaration that the freedom of flight brought.

Flinx was comforted by the fact that no one should notice him, and he reached the road after a couple of hours of flying. He did have to cast his Invisibility and Fly spells a couple more times, but his spellcasting was seamless enough that no monsters noticed him.

Once Flinx was on the road, he commanded his great horned owl familiar to fly above to check the nearby places, and he noticed a small village surrounded by thick wooden walls in the distance.

The presence of the walls for such a tiny village confirmed the fact that this world was a violent one. He started heading towards the village using the road, since he didn’t want to be seen flying. He didn’t want the villagers to suddenly mob him while shouting “Witch! Witch” and then trying to burn him at the stake.

Flinx suddenly paused when he remembered that the people of this world might be speaking a language that he didn’t know. He then shrugged and thought that he would deal with it when he reached the village.

While walking the road, a group of kobolds suddenly came out of the forest to attack him. The faces of the monsters wore extreme hunger, and Flinx knew that if they managed to capture him, he would end up in the monsters’ stomachs.

There were around seven kobolds. He called them kobolds because they looked like the kobolds as described in one of those fantasy role-playing tabletop game websites. The monsters looked like small, reptilian humanoids with a lizard-like appearance. He immediately cast one of the offensive spells that he prepared, which was the Chain Lightning spell. The powerful spell appeared from his hands and blazed through the monsters in a spectacular, visually intimidating effect. The lightning passed from one monster to all of them until all of the monsters were hit, but Flinx saw that the effect became less severe once the lightning passed through a monster, until the last couple were damaged but not killed.

He killed those who survived the powerful spell by casting the Magic Missile spell on them. The two spells killed all of the monsters immediately. He then cast Telekinesis to search for mana stones in the monsters’ bodies, and he did find a couple of low mana stones. At least his worry that he wouldn’t be able to find any more mana stones was settled.

After cleaning the mana stones using the Prestidigitation spell, Flinx stored them in his 4th tab space and continued heading towards the small village. He suddenly wondered if he should keep the corpses of the kobolds. Maybe the villagers would buy them from him. Maybe they ate those monsters or used their skins as leather.

While walking, Flinx inspected the plants and trees nearby. He didn’t recognize any of them, but then again, he knew nothing about trees and plants. If he were back on Earth and somebody dropped him in the middle of the forest, he also wouldn’t recognize the plants and trees there.

Flinx was reveling in the warmth of the sun that was shining down from above. He inhaled deeply the fresh breeze that was flowing from the forest. All of these things were a reminder that he was now free from the enslavement of the wizards.

Flinx was thrilled at how easily he killed the kobolds that tried to ambush him, but he knew that the monsters near the road were the low-level ones. Probably just a level or two above the dungeon monsters that he had killed for more than two years.

When he checked his experience bar, he saw that the 7 kobolds did provide experience points, but it was so minute that it could be treated as negligible. Flinx realized that if he didn’t actively search for powerful monsters to kill, he wouldn’t level up, and he needed to reach the legendary 20th level if he wanted to return to Earth.

Flinx didn’t even know if he truly wanted to go back home. He had no one waiting for him there. No parents or friends, and he already had access to the best thing that Earth could give, which was the internet and the illogical but extremely powerful shopping site. He didn’t even know if he truly needed the shopping site since he knew that this world could probably provide everything that he would need to live, but of course, he was extremely grateful he had access to his system shopping site, because he knew that it would bring him unbelievable convenience and comfort.

After a couple of hours, Flinx neared the village and saw that there were farms nearby. He saw that each of the farms was also surrounded by walls, and based on what he had seen in the forest, those walls, though they looked flimsy to him, were necessary. Everything was surrounded by walls. That proved the fact that this world was an extremely dangerous one.
