Chapter 4: Fighting the Rats Again

Norville once again found himself fighting against the rats who were swimming across the moat. The rats knew how to swim and that was going to be a problem, he needed some help so that he could wander off to speak to Anja. As he began to smack the rats around with his plow, he scanned the neighborhood. He could see a Komodo dragon on a walk – Morelth was his name.

“Hey mister, how would you like to help me fight some rats?”

Morelth just so happen to despise rats, he didn’t like them one bit, but he wanted something in it for himself.

“What are you going to do for me before I decide help you out?” asked Morelth.

“Well, what do you like?” asked Norville.

“Get me a nice steak dinner and I’ll call it a deal” replied Morelth.

What luck, Norville could afford giving Morelth a steak dinner. The Komodo dragon immediately leaped over onto Marshall’s property and began to pummel the rats with ease. Hiro could see this as a problem for him – but then hatched a possible idea. Even while Morelth was beating up his comrades – Hiro wanted to wait until Norville left his post to speak with Morelth. Norville flew off and landed near Anja’s yard.

“My, you’re quite a brave one back there” said Anja.

“How long have you lived in this neighborhood?” asked Norville.

“All my life” replied Anja, “never thought to see such a brave bat such as yourself fighting off those pesky rats.”

While Norville tried to charm his way into Anja’s heart, Morelth felt the rats were too easy as he sat around the blue rose.

“What’s so special about this blasted blue rose?” thought Morelth.

“Ah, you’re a smart lizard!” laughed Hiro.

Hiro emerged from the hedges nearby, Morelth snarled at him as a response.

“Whoa there fella, I don’t want to fight you I want to make a deal with you” continued Hiro.

  “Go on” continued Morelth.

“See that blue rose, it’s Marshall’s prized rose worth a fortune!” continued Hiro, “If you take it for us, we’ll give you whatever you want, ten times what Norville promised you!”

Morelth thought for a moment – he was down on his luck.

“Alright, fine it’s a deal!” laughed Morelth.

“You won’t regret it!” laughed Hiro.

Morelth grabbed the blue rose from its position and handed it over to Hiro. Hiro gazed at the blue rose with all of its victory! As for Norville he got Anja’s number but he was unaware of the scheme afoot. When he returned to Marshall’s place he found out that the blue rose was missing. He was shocked Morelth didn’t do anything to stop it.

  “What happened?!” cried Norville.

“Um, there were too many of them” replied Morelth, “I’m sorry.”

Morelth knew that alibi was the best he had for Norville to buy into. Norville couldn’t believe it – the strongest animal in the neighborhood couldn’t fight off the rats? That made no sense! Unless, did he make a deal with them instead? Norville shuttered to think, he knew it still wasn’t too late for him.
