Chapter 5 – Mysterious Book
After Potions class, Scarlett waited in front of the grand library entrance, her bag slung over her shoulder. The ancient doors loomed before her, carved with strange symbols that seemed to shift when you looked too long. The hall was quiet—almost too quiet.
Suddenly, she felt a gentle hand rest on her right shoulder. Scarlett froze for a moment, her heart skipping a beat.
A soft, calm voice spoke behind her.
“Miss Watson, what are you doing here?”
Scarlett slowly turned around and exhaled in relief. It was the librarian—Mrs. Misty Malfoy. Her pale silver hair glimmered in the light, and her eyes carried a knowing warmth mixed with something unreadable.
“Oh, Mrs. Malfoy,” Scarlett said quickly. “I… I’m just waiting for my friends. We’re planning to study together.”
Mrs. Malfoy gave a faint smile. “Hmm… that sounds good. And what subject are you so eager to study, my dear?”
Scarlett hesitated for a moment before replying, “History of Dark and Light. I find it… fascinating.”
The librarian’s smile faded just slightly. “Ah… that’s not a subject most students choose willingly,” she said softly, her tone turning distant. “Be careful, Miss Watson. Curiosity about darkness often invites it closer.”
Scarlett blinked, unsure what to say. Before she could reply, Mrs. Malfoy turned and glided toward the towering shelves, her long robes brushing the floor like shadows.
Scarlett watched her disappear between the rows of ancient books—and for a moment, she could swear one of the candles flickered blue.
Tom spotted Scarlett standing quietly in front of the library’s tall doors. He waved as he and Daniel walked up.
“Who were you talking to just now?” Tom asked curiously.
Scarlett turned toward them. “Mrs. Malfoy—the librarian. She just asked what I was doing here.”
Daniel tilted his head. “And what did she ask you exactly?”
“She wanted to know which subject I was interested in,” Scarlett replied.
Tom grinned playfully. “So, what did she say after that?”
Scarlett hesitated before answering. “She said… ‘Curiosity about darkness often invites it closer.’”

Tom chuckled, trying to shake off the tension. “It must’ve been a joke, Scarlett. Don’t let it freak you out.”
Scarlett gave a small nod, forcing a smile. “Alright, fine. Let’s just go inside.”

Inside the Library
As they stepped through the massive doors, the air grew cool and still. Towering shelves stretched endlessly upward, filled with books that looked centuries old. Dust motes drifted in the golden light of hanging lanterns.
Tom let out a low whistle. “There’s way too much here. We’ll have to dig through all of this to find the right one.”
Scarlett smirked. “Not really. Follow me.”
Daniel and Tom exchanged a glance and followed her deeper into the labyrinth of shelves. After a few minutes of searching, Scarlett pulled out a heavy, black-bound volume.
“Found it!” she said proudly. The title shimmered faintly in gold: History of Dark and Light.
While the others crowded around the book, Daniel’s eyes caught something else—on a nearby shelf, a single volume looked out of place. It was covered in faded brown leather, unlike the rest, and a strange faint glow pulsed from its spine.
Something about it called to him.
Without saying a word, he stepped away from the others and moved toward the book. His hand trembled slightly as he reached for it. The moment his fingers brushed the cover, the air rippled—then everything went black.

A Strange Place
When Daniel opened his eyes, he was lying on cold stone. The air was heavy with dust and silence. He looked around and saw a decayed hall—walls cracked, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, and the faint scent of burnt parchment. It looked as though the place had been sealed away for decades.
“What… happened?” he murmured.
Suddenly, a small, shaky voice echoed from behind him.
“Forgive me, sir. I… I had to do it.”
Daniel turned sharply. Standing there was a small elf—his skin pale, his clothes tattered, and his large eyes filled with both fear and relief.
“Who are you?” Daniel asked cautiously.
The creature bowed slightly. “I am Dawn, sir. An elf.”
Daniel’s eyes widened. “An elf? But… you don’t look like the ones in the stories.”
Dawn tilted his head, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Stories rarely tell the truth, sir. They only tell what humans wish to believe.”
Daniel sighed, steadying himself. “Alright, fair enough. Then tell me—why did you bring me here?”
The elf straightened his back, his tone suddenly solemn. “Because I have been waiting for you, sir… for thirty years. I was given a task—to protect something precious and deliver it to you when the time came.”
Daniel frowned. “To me? Why me?”
Dawn nodded slowly. “Because it belonged to your father. He said only you could unlock it… and that the fate of Arcanmere would depend on it.”
Daniel’s heart pounded. “My father? He’s been gone since I was a child…”
“Follow me,” Dawn interrupted softly. “There isn’t much time.”

The Hidden Chamber
They walked through a narrow tunnel lit by faint blue runes carved into the walls. The air grew warmer as they went deeper until they reached a massive iron gate covered in arcane symbols.
With a wave of his hand, Dawn whispered an ancient word, and the gate slowly creaked open.
Inside was a circular chamber, glowing with golden light. At its center, suspended in the air, was a book—its cover made of aged brown leather, its edges shimmering faintly like molten gold.
On the cover, written in bold, ancient letters, were the words:
Arcanmere: Secrets of the Hidden Library.
