10. The end or a beginning? part.2

On the roof of the 80-floor Hollowlight tower, Vorn stood barely holding in his fear of heights and vomit, but he had to; his death was near.

The first thing that came to his mind was to scan for the twelve figures, using the scan reward from clearing the dungeon, but he knew nothing about them except for the fact that there 12 of them.

Therefore, Vorn jumped to the best next option, while scanning for living individuals surrounded by undead, he made a hit.

On one side, there are fourteen figures, although a distance away, there are other places with some people as well, but they are too scattered, so he guessed that they are survivors.

Vorn even saw a spot where over 30 dots appeared on the map, probably a survivor’s hideout.

The first thing that came to mind was the fourteen; they had to be the team of twelve, with two extras possibly dying or meeting Lilith.

With these thoughts, Vorn had a plan as he gave points to Lilith and the others, then he sent them, accompanied by 3000 undead as cannon fodder, 50 elite undead, five level two physical undead, and one warden to face the enemies at the south of the tower.

One of Hollow’s avatars was with them as well, according to his words ‘I will go with you guys , this place is so boring.’

However, Vorn made one big mistake… underestimating the number of undead

The second he reached the roof and looked over, Vorn saw countless undead as small as ants

Thousands upon thousands of undead surrounding his tower in every direction, all he wanted was to see the battle safe from above, so why are there so many undead around? Why are they all coming toward me?

Vorn wanted to curse; it was obvious now that the enemy wasn’t just the twelve he saw in causality memento, but many more, and all of them were driving the undead here.

His eyes moved in every direction repeatedly, as if staring harder would somehow reveal the unknown, but there was nothing to reveal, although he couldn’t see clearly because of the distance and the lack of light. The fact that even with all the obstacles, he could still see the undead marching toward him is terrifying in itself.

Ignoring everything else, Vorn changed his gaze toward the mental map that appeared after he scanned the area, although it didn’t refresh, and only showed the location of living beings surrounded by undead at that time; it was still a good reference.

The map doesn’t show undead, but their approximate location can be inferred from the survivor's location, as they are surrounded by undead.

As for the reason he didn’t scan for undead, it is that he wanted to kill the twelve master minds, and because he didn’t see undead in the memento, he underestimated their threat level.

Vorn inhaled slowly and then looked at Hollow hovering beside him.

“Can you relay my orders to them clearly through your avatar?”

Hollow thought for a while and said, “I guess I can go anywhere as long as there is a domain-bound life form. Lilith and the others are close to them, so I can talk to them easily.”

Hollow smiled, floating carelessly in the open air near the edge as if eighty floors meant nothing.

  Vorn nodded.

Based on what he is currently seeing, the main force is to the south with all of the leaders, so he should focus on them.

  “Relay this,” Vorn said.

“Lilith, Aelar, Rook, and Mira, leave your team behind and March faster with all of the agility and the E-grade physical undead. When you meet the enemy group, try to take a few out. If it can’t be done, then do not get entangled with the undead. Keep an eye on them from afar and wait for a chance to cause damage.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Vorn’s eyes squinted, trying to look further, trying to imagine the streets below, broken walls, wrecked cars, and collapsed intersections.

“Nyx, Orik, Korgan, and Hollow, keep moving for about 5 minutes, then stop and assist the undead with barricading the streets, cut their path toward us.

  "go and relay my orders."

‘If Lilith and the others do their job well, then I will survive this, kill a few leaders, and barricade the roads toward me, then the undead wouldn’t be of much trouble.’

‘After we finish the undead at the south or reroute them, I can pull the team back to defend me, as I have already killed some of the twelve leaders; they won’t be organized, I can take them out.’

Seconds passed, and then minutes, after around 15 minutes, Vorn couldn’t see much from so high above, but he could see the general situation, his team has stopped and he has started to see thick lines of different colors on the street, his barricade is almost finished, but the wild undead are getting closer, looks like Lilith's mission was a failure.

Vorn checked his recruits and was relieved to see that none of them had died.

Vorn asked Hollow, “How is the situation down?”

Hollow answered immediately and nervously, “It wasn’t perfect.”

My heart dropped to the floor. ‘fuck, what happened?’

I looked at Hollow with eyes that could spew fire and said in a very cold tone, “What is the situation?”

Hollow shivered as he said, “Lilith, Aelar, Rook, and Mira coordinated well at the beginning, and managed to kill 11 of the invaders, but due to Rook, Aelar, and Mira's hesitation near the end, they let the other 3 escape. There were other survivors, and they were taken hostage, so they hesitated.”

“Please give them another chance, they don’t deserve death, they will work hard to fix their mistake.”

  Vorn, ‘…WTF’

  ...

The first clash had already started, though the details were impossible to make out from this height. Vorn only saw small silhouettes falling on top of each other, lines twisted, clusters collide, and more undead pour toward the same place.

Vorn had already noticed it; his shop points were increasing from the bound undead dying and killing enemies across the battlefield.

Then he noticed that more undead were coming from his army’s left, so he ordered Nyx and the other five to head there while sending Lilith to the right, as he saw red, so he thought that it was an undead mage, so Lilith's presence there would be needed.

Vorn kept giving orders as the number of his undead kept decreasing.

He focused mainly on preserving power. Lilith and the other six are the priority, as they are smart enough to help on the battlefield. The second priority is the level 2 undead and the elite ones.

As for the others, he would just send them to die; trading them for the lives of these elites is more important.

It’s been more than half an hour since the fight began, the number of his undead was dwindling to a dangerous level, and he saw in his domain panel that the number of bound life-forms had decreased by almost 1500, as he couldn’t differentiate between allies and foes most of the time from this vantage point.

However, his shop points have already skyrocketed to 3008.5, and he knew what he needed to do.

When he took over this domain, he saw a very special undead with MP: F (99%) but FOCUS: F(5%)

This undead is practically a walking mana pool, but is worthless as he can only use some extremely basic spells, with almost no control.

However, he is the only mage undead capable of advancing to E-grade, and the main reason for Vorn's desire to upgrade him is the increased intelligence.

Undead mages need high intellect to cast spells, even as F-grade, they have some. As for the physical type, their intelligence increases sharply in D-rank to control their body.

This is an ironclad rule with only small exceptions.

Vorn wasted no time after gaining the shop point and opened the shop.

  ?SHOP?

F-grade breakthrough potion (unintelligent life-form): can be used to upgrade one specific status to E-grade

NOTE: can only be used on unintelligent life-forms

NOTE: can only be used on a specific status that has reached its maximum capacity

  PRICE: 3000 shop points

Vorn was prepared for this since the beginning, as the undead were right behind him.

After giving him the potion and ordering him to drink it, the undead body began to gather mana like a vortex, entering his body.

Vorn ignored him and switched his attention to the battlefield.

After ten minutes of Vorn’s giving ridiculous orders, the undead finally made it to E-grade and got some of his brain cells back.

  F(99%) → E(0%)

I turned to face the undead with satisfaction, and then, without any delay, I sent him with 1500 cannon fodder, the remaining 50 elite undead, four physical E-grade, and one warden to slow down the oncoming enemies coming from the north, and west.

As for my own protection, keeping the strongest warden, 500 cannon fodder, and the last remaining E-grade undead is more than enough.

After all, if everyone outside die then my death won’t be far.

The undead mage didn’t answer me, but moved downward without any expression on his face.

The situation in the south is now stable, just some remnant enemy undead remain, around 1500 of my own troops are left south, but all I need now is to leave 500 cannon fodder, and with Hollow’s lead, they can protect our back.

Everyone else should head back to assist the undead mage.

Although Lilith and the rest killed many people who might have been the leaders, it is still not certain if they were truly leaders.

So I need to be as careful as possible.
