Chapter 95

  Ivan Doppelganger’s study

Veronique had to concentrate to keep up Hover working and Hanging Jaw visible, it was a staining process as her mana flow didn’t appreciate being split for the two different tasks.

Then she suddenly heard some weird sound in her head, which broke her concentration and made her drop Hover, her desk fell back to the floor with a small thud, since it was just a few centimeters up in the air

“What happened?” Mr Doppelganger had immediately inquired

“I heard a noise, it distracted me” Veronique had responded in short, at that the man let out a small knowing smile

“Did you? Go on try again” he urged her on

“Hover” Veronique did as she was told, using again the skill on her desk and bracing herself for the same stain, but something was different “eh?”

“It’s easier, isn’t it?” he pointed out what was happening

“Yes, it is but I did nothing different” Veronique didn’t get it at first but then she remembered “Wait did it?” she let the question hang in the air

“What do you think?” Ivan didn’t need to say more as the redhead cheered

  She had mastered Hover!

  Royal Palace

It was late afternoon when Prince Leonard’s carriage arrived to its destination, the Prince already knew what he would face upon returning but he always held a small hope that the news hadn’t reached her so fast.

“Leonard Percival Lorens!” and so that hope got routinely squashed as usual the moment he got through the ornate front doors, by a pair of pale pink clicking heels coming his way.

The owner looking not happy at all to see him

“Oh my dear sister how may I help you?” he gave her a charming smile trying to play dumb even if he knew there was no fooling her.

Her deep blue eyes were narrowed and her firsts were gripping in the grown of her silver dress out of anger as she squared out to him.

However it was hard to feel intimidated by her when she still insisted on holding back her blonde hair with a big red ribbon.

Despite being older by almost a decade Princess Morgana looked as if she was the younger sibling of the two, not even a gray hair was on her head.

“Don’t dear sister me!” she had said “You used your Skill! You promised me you wouldn’t and you did it anyway” he did promise her that and he did feel guilt over breaking it but…

“It’s not a big deal, you think the nightmares of an eight year old are going to do anything to me?” Prince Leonard tried to justify himself “I have seen worse from grown men” and minimize the issue

“That’s not the point, you know you are not supposed to use it” she killed his excuses in a flash, as expected “your body can’t take the recoil anymore”

“I am aware, but it was just a child, I couldn’t resist helping” the Prince tried to appeal to his sister’s empathy

“You and your bleeding heart are going to drive you to an early grave” and as expected it worked

“You worry too much Morgana, I am fine” he told her, trying to make her feel better

“If only Father didn’t meddle with your Skill” but Morgana ended up bringing that up

“We don’t know for sure if what Father did caused the recoil” Prince Leonard didn’t know how many times he had this discussion with his sister “Please don’t think ill of him”

“You have always been too nice for your own good, even to those who didn’t deserve it” the Princess would say, once again not listening to his words

“Morgana” he pleaded her to let it drop, Leonard didn’t want to be dragged into another discussion against their Father’s character

“I want our Royal Doctor to examine you throughout the week” his sister ordered him

“If that will make my dear sister feel better, I will go to him right away” Leonard agreed even if he thought it to be a waste of time.

Aurelia Estate, an empty Closet in the East wing

Senior Maid Eva and Duchess Lucretia’s maid Amelia were arguing in hushed tones

“Are you sure you switched the leaves correctly” Amelia was fluming, her scheme had totally failed and the brat was going to reside in the Main Wing exactly what she didn’t want

“Of course I did! I didn’t want her in the Main Wing as much as you do” Eva retorted feeling outraged

“Then why nothing happened?” Amelia inquired with suspicious

“I don’t know Amelia” the older maid truly didn’t know

“Oh I can answer that” they both straddled at the voice seeing it was no other then the Skill teacher and paled “You see unfortunately for you Lady Veronique started getting the hang of Hover and has been practicing it every day so her mana doesn’t quite built up like it used to” he informed them before adding “don’t worry I won’t rat you out, after all nothing serious happened”

“Sir I don’t know what you heard” Amelia tried to play dumb, for all she knew this man didn’t know anything

“You knew the Duke was going to test Lady Veronique’s patience so you switched Veronique’s tea blend with Magika herbs hoping it would make her lose control by overloading her with mana” Ivan Doppelganger made it know to the duo that he found out about everything

“You got no proof we did such thing” Amelia was sure everything had been taken care of and there was nothing that could be used against them

“Maybe I don’t, maybe I have” the man was vague about it, yet the way he said made it clear he could have something “but don’t worry I already said I won’t rat you out”

“So what do you want?” Amelia couldn’t risk it

“Let’s just say you two will owe me a favor each” Mr Doppelganger stayed vague about it

“What kind of favor?” Eva inquired not liking the sound of such thing and fearing she would be asked to outright betray the Aurelia

“Nothing harmful for the Aurelia I can assure you” it was all he would say and neither of them liked the sound of it.
