Remedial Classes pt8

We opened a door and arrived in a massive warehouse. Students were flying around on hoverboards, driving giant mechs, and testing extremely dangerous weaponry everywhere you looked.

  “Whoa this is crazy!”

“It is nothing but a shame.”

We walked over to a walled section of the warehouse and Mr. Writing approached us. “Mr. Fos, welcome to my humble class. Here you will learn everything you need to know about technology. I allow my students to work in the areas of science and technology that appeal to their sensibilities. For today, I would encourage you to walk around and see what strikes your fancy. Then once you are finished, come and speak to me about anything that intrigues you and I’ll go into greater detail. Today is a free day for students and they are likely working on their final semester projects. I’m sure they will be eager to speak to you about them.”

“Sounds good! Thank you, sir! Come on Marcus! Let’s go explore!” I said as I grabbed his hand and pulled him along.

“Curb your enthusiasm! Did I not just explain why this place is deplorable!”

We approached a display that had blue gel gently moving throughout a tube. Silver sparkles glimmered within it.

“Come one, come all and see the great Cara’s most recent display of genius!”

“Oh, it's the thirsty man stealer. What have you been working on?” I said.

She stomped. “YOU! IT’S YOU! Do you know how much time I could have spent working on my projects that was wasted treating your pathetic injuries? I should kill you where you stand!”

Long range guns flew out of her coat and aimed at me.

“What the…Uh…put those things away before I…”

Marcus raised his fists. “Anyone who harms my fellow revolutionary dies!”

“Shut your mouth filth! I have no problem with exterminating you as well! You haven’t increased my utility by a single unit since you entered this academy! That offense is worthy of death!”

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“…tell Milliard on you.” I finished.

She gasped. “You wouldn’t dare! Our relationship would suffer a hit of 976 points and it would take me years to recover!” She glared. “Speaking of my daring prince, your injury did grant me an additional encounter with him I would have had no way of organically generating otherwise…I suppose that offsets your offense and I can let you live for now.”

Her guns retracted back into her coat.

I sighed. “Why is everyone so violent here? I just asked you what you were making in that tube.”

“Oh, you wanted to hear about the children I’ve been birthing? Of course I’ll tell you about them! This is Cassius! He’s a restorative gel that can be automatically administered once your armor detects an injury! He’s just in his infancy though. Hopefully he can grow up and be field tested in the next few years!”

“That’s awesome. Are you the lead inventor here?”

“No, that would be my daring prince’s deplorable little brother Akri.” She scoffed. “The apple fell into a different country with that one…Still though, he is the leader of our nation’s research and development division, so I suppose he at least deserves some respect.”

  “Why don’t you like him?”

“He is rude, awkward, infantile, unattractive, a cripple, and he refuses to cooperate with others. He’s worse than Epios if you can believe it. He’s not of royal or affluent blood either which lowers his value even further.” She shrugged. “Despite that, his brilliance is undeniable, and he has created countless inventions that set our nation as the world’s leading technological power.”

I felt my aggravation rising. “It sounds like he’s done great things for this country and where he was born doesn’t matter at all…There’s no excuse for treating people poorly but maybe he doesn’t like you guys because of the way you guys treat us ‘commoners’.”

She waved me off. “Nah, couldn’t be. He’s been like that since he got here.”

“That doesn’t mean…You know what, I’m going to go ask him myself!” I said as I stormed off.

  “Yeah…good luck with that.”

I could relate to Marcus and Akri because people have always said I was weird and treated me differently because I live out the Christian values that most people just claim to espouse. I also knew far too well what it was like to be shunned by the people around you that were supposed to be supporting you. These guys didn't deserve to be mistreated because of where they were born; or because of a difference in status. Parts of Marcus’ declarations about this place were true and he had a valid reason for feeling the way that he does about some of the people here. I wanted to see if Akri was the same way.

Suddenly, I heard Marcus scream. “OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT!”

He sprinted out of the warehouse like his hair was on fire.

“Ugh, that vile Marcus needs to poop again?”. “Do they not teach proper bladder control in the slums?”. “What the hell does he eat to need to poop that much?” Students muttered.

  That was very weird.

I continued my quest for knowledge. “Hey Akri, long time no see!”

  He flinched. “Oh…it’s you…”
