Lunacy 105: [Sasa Veridia]

The C-rank assessment was in a popular double-elimination tournament format. 5 adventurers were eligible for the C-rank assessment in total.

3 participants were Toxic Donkeys and the other adventurer was a Crimson Eagle. Yvonne was the only Hawkeye participating in the assessment.

Agnis, Raishin, Gregory, Giana and Noelle were sitting in the VIP audience seats. Raishin and Noelle were cheering loudly.

Go get them Yv! Kill them all!

Yvonne shook her head. “Does he know that this is a friendly match?”

Agnis gestured to her to make it flashy.

Yvonne’s first opponent was a Toxic Donkey specializing in paralytic poison. She could smell familiar compounds originating from a shrub she knew well.

The match started, and she instantly shot out [Wind Rope] and attached it to the Toxic Donkey, who went into stealth. She could easily trace the Toxic Donkey’s whereabouts with the displaced air, her exceptional hearing and the [Wind Rope] that she had attached to him.

A [Rabbit Kick] knocked him out of stealth and nearly unconscious. The Toxic Donkey was in a daze as he hadn’t noticed the [Wind Rope] and had no idea how he had been found out so fast.

The Toxic Donkey jumped away to create some distance, but Yvonne pulled him back in with the [Wind Rope]. Her appreciation for this simple skill had grown over the last week. The [Wind Rope] thinned into wires, and she weaved a straitjacket around the Toxic Donkey, making him unable to use his hands.

“What is this!?” The Toxic Donkey said as he tried to free himself from the strange bind.

She knocked the Toxic Donkey out with a well-controlled kick to his temple. She panted as weaving the straightjacket cost her a lot of focus and her mana control was inadequate to repeat this often.

“I still need more practice.” She said as she looked at her hands.

Her friends cheered as she had made the fight seem easy.

The uneven numbers worked against Yvonne as she was up against a Crimson Eagle right after that.

She circulated nature energy to recover her mental focus. She did not know what the specialty was of the Crimson Eagle, but fire magic was popular under the Crimson Eagles.

The next opponent was a Misha, also known as a witch. If not for their adventures in Mishaspire, Yvonne wouldn’t have known what their weaknesses were.

A smile escaped her lips as she got ready for this Misha.

  Gogo Yv! Kick her ass!

You got this! Also pay attention to her name!

Yvonne had no idea why Agnis would say something so strange.

She looked on the screen. “Shelly Manarune? Surely not related to…”

“Oh, do you know me? Or do you know my mother?” Shelly adjusted her hat and smiled as fire mana gathered around her.

Yvonne steeled herself. She had once heard Agnis say that Beatrice Manarune and the Crimson Eagle were the same person. If this woman in front of her was related to Beatrice, then this match might get rough.

Wind mana gathered around Yvonne as both were waiting for the sign to start.

The signal went off and Yvonne jumped away from a [Staff Throw], [Fireball] combo.

“Unfortunately for you, I’m familiar with that tactic!” Yvonne used [Wind Rope] to pick it up and flung the Misha catalyst far away.

Shelly responded by pulling out a wand. Yvonne knew what this meant: the smaller the catalyst, the more skilled the Misha is.

Yvonne harassed Shelly with [Wind Rope] attempting to steal her wand while she set up [Petal Storm] and [Sasa Veridia].

Sweat dripped from her face as she narrowly evaded [Fireball] after [Fireball]. The temperature was rising and molten patches started to take over the floor. Shelly had put up a [Fire Ward] protecting her from the [Wind Rope] and possible physical attacks.

Blue and pink petals gathered around Yvonne as [Petal Storm] had completed. The petals flew at the [Fire Ward] burning up but also slowly shredding it to pieces.

Fragrant petals gathered around Yvonne’s arm and formed a cannon.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

A compressed blast of flammable gas got shot at the [Fire Ward], causing an explosion and launching Shelly. Yvonne got blasted back by the recoil and had to recover but her opponent couldn’t exploit this, luckily.

The sound of an [Arcane barrier] cracking and shattering filled the arena, and a smiling Shelly appeared from the smoke and fire, lightly singed. “You’re not like most wind users who have few answers to overwhelming fire magic. This will be fun!”

Shelly held up her hand and held a [Fireball]. The magic circle of it slowly changed as the [Fireball] increased in intensity.

“Oh my, it's like how the Silver Torrent dynamically adjusts his [Fireballs]…”

“Heh! You might not know this, but the Misha owe him a lot. I learned this from him when he got called the ‘Fireball Misha’ have a taste of peak fire magic!”

The [Fireball] flared, and the arena turned into a hellscape.

Yvonne was taking damage from the heat, even though the [Fireball] hadn’t been fired off yet.

Yvonne finalized the [Sasa Veridia] cast. She had practiced with it before, but she had practiced with a dummy version. Agnis had finalized it and added some utility to it. Only the first cast would take long as he made the magic skill attune to her mana.

She had no idea what it meant, only that she was the only one who could use this skill.

Rapidly spinning spheres of air appeared all over the arena. The petals got sucked into them and caused the spheres to spread a fragrance reminiscent of the spring.

Yv focused and removed the oxygen from the spheres and sucked up all the fire, completely killing Shelly’s monstrous [Fireball].

“What?!” Shelly recovered quickly and sent fiery hawks at Yvonne.

The air spheres lined up and Yvonne hopped into one. She got launched from sphere to sphere, easily avoiding any attack flying at her. The petals trailing after her shredded everything in their path.

The spheres spread out to allow complexity in Yvonne’s [Sasa Veridia] movements.

“If you can use those spheres like that! Why shouldn’t I?” Shelly sent fiery hawks into spheres.

“I can freely control what can and cannot enter them.” Yv focused, and the spheres kicked out any oxygen, killing any fire. It turned viridian green and started shooting [Wind Blades] while Yvonne got launched from sphere to sphere while sending fragrant petals to assault Shelly.

Shelly put up her [Fire Ward] and Yvonne shot another compressed gas blast from her hand cannon blowing Shelly away. One of [Sasa Veridia’s] upsides was that she didn’t get hit by a recoil while in any of its spheres.

Both contestants were on a timer as Yvonne’s new skill was taxing on her mana control and focus and Shelly was expending a lot of mana due to protecting herself against her hypermobile opponent.

“Fine! Then I will just blow up everything! How about an [Exploding Staff]!”

Something in a corner gave off an enormous amount of mana after Shelly’s mana plummeted. Yvonne could identify the staff thrown earlier as it’s source before the whole arena got turned into an inferno and a gigantic shockwave followed by a scorching blaze hit everything in the arena.

The barriers protecting the audience strained, and a barrier expert ran in to strengthen and fortify the barrier.

One stomp that shook the hall made everything considerably easier for the experts.

The dust and fire settled and 2 figures with minor burns appeared from the scene. Yvonne dropped out of a large spinning gas sphere and gasped for air as if she had been choking.

Shelly’s fire barrier crumbled and she dropped to one knee. “Ugh, that didn’t defeat you?”

“This skill is extremely useful but… Did you have to make it so difficult to use?!” Yvonne yelled at the audience.

Nobody seemed to know who she was yelling at.

Both contestants seemed unable to put up much of a fight.

“Heh, it seems like a draw. My first draw against a wind user.”

“I’m sorry but this is my win.” Yvonne circulated nature energy and was slowly recovering.

The audience looked on as Yvonne and Shelly had an invisible race. Whether Shelly could recover from using an enormous amount of mana or if Yvonne would recover her focus.

A compressed gas blast got shot at Shelly who countered with a [Fireball] before diving away from the explosion. There was no explosion, only a rabbit standing over her with a foot at her neck when she looked up.

“That was impressive. I concede.” Shelly threw her hat to the side to indicate that she conceded.

Yvonne helped her up and applied nature energy to her. “It is my first time winning against a skilled fire user. This fight surely didn’t favor me… I smell like burnt rabbit…”

“You still smell nice.” Shelly walked over to pick up her hat, and Yvonne had been declared the winner.

“That strange skill you used or more like… technique. What is it called?” Shelly asked as she cleaned up the remains of her old and exploded staff.

“It’s a new skill and also my adventurer’s name. It’s [Sasa Veridia]!”

“I see, at least I won’t have to worry that someone else walks around with that. It’s a nice name.”

The two walked off to the sickbay to get their burn wounds tended to.
