CH 20 – Blabber ‘Bout Backstories

"Are you sure that you don't want to talk about this stuff?" Wick asks while sitting next to me. I had asked her to build a bench out of the rocks here, and she obliged by hewing out a notch for us to sit in with her powers. My cnsmen would seethe in jealousy. We sit together, looking out over the grand mountain range, lit by the setting sun. The sun is weird. It isn't actually setting, it just stays in one pce. I noted that to Wick earlier, and she mentioned how she had never seen her room at night. Though, neither of us know how long we've been here, so the question's still up in the air if it does set.

"Yeah. I'm sorry. Could we talk about something else? Like what this pce is?"

"I don't know any better than you. I think that Eth might, though." Well, that's a problem. She's been here for quite a bit longer than me and still has no idea about what's going on.

"Who's Eth?" I certainly haven't met anyone named Eth. Does that mean there's another person here? Actually, there must be, 'cause why else would she say that. Dur.

"Eth is just the opposite of Chaos, neat and consistent, organized and reasonable, all the things Chaos isn't. She's awesome, you have to meet her!" Then Wick paused and schooled her expression, "If you want to. She's pretty much the Order to Chaos'... Chaos." Well, this girl really looks up to Eth. Not sure someone so orderly would click with me, though, I'm a bit of a free spirit. Heh. Chaos' opposite sounds like my cn chief, the bastard.

"Woah, you really are not a fan of Chaos, are you?"

"No, I am not! She's the bitch who turned me into this," She gestures to her body, "and took my old life, however false it was, away from me." That's a lot of anger, girl. I guess it is justified, though. I happen to rather like Chaos, even if I will be keeping that to myself for the sake of not making her angry at me. Chaos clicks with me in a primal way that I don't quite understand. Maybe it's because she's plenty insane and acts like a total outcast (Just like me!)? Who knows.

"What was your old life like?" The topic is getting too close to home for me, so I shall redirect it to something she seems to care about. I hope this works.

"Oh, thanks for asking," Wick smiled, and pulled a ball of sand from... somewhere. Maybe it came out of her body, I don't know. She set it down on the mountain, and it began to roll around as if it were alive. One of the eels I made began to chase the thing around, ending up in a game of Scalper and Dwarf. You know, where the giant sharp insect chases a dwarf around his tunnels until the clever warrior finds a passage too tight for the behemoth, then he kills it with his axe? A rite of passage in my former cn. Oh, wait, she's talking.

"I grew up in a fishing vilge on the west coast of the county of Helenia. We were surrounded by the rain forest on any side you care to name, and the only path to our vilge was rarely used, except by our people. It was a beautiful pce, tucked away on a rocky outcrop by the sea, where we could see for miles and miles..." She trails off, lost in the memories of her dream. "My parents were great folks, even if they were strict. My father was a tanner, he dealt with all of the animal pelts that the hunters brought in by himself, and my mother took care of us. She was very religious, and told me to leave offerings to the gods of the forests and the sea every night. I did that.

"My brothers were great, best guys you could find. We did everything together. Oh, and just for context, I was a guy in my previous life." That expins a lot, like why she's so attached to her old life and why she hates Chaos, other than her nature. I sort of think of my old life as a prologue to this one, if only because to be in this form just feels so right! I let some air squirm a bit inside of my body, just because I can do that now. "We lived in a big ole house old Waldo built for us when my parents got married, with a few bedrooms, but even though it was big, it was still really cozy. We weren't rich or anything, but my dad was the only tanner in the vilge, and the hunters kind of relied on him to deal with their catches."

I stare out at the sunset, still wondering if dusk would ever come. I watch our two creations chase each other around the windy peak we sat on. Even so, I listened to my newest acquaintance speak about her troubles. Family should be supportive.

"Not much really happened for most of my life. I think that the most notable event was when a tinker-trader managed to get through the jungle and into our town, the poor guy was absolutely eaten up by the bugs and pnts. I got a nice looking map from him as thanks for finding him with one of my brothers and helping him back to the vilge. I usually just helped out with my father's business, but it wasn't all that interesting to me.

"I think I liked helping my mother with the garden more, which was another of our downtime activities. We had plenty of pnts, including vegetables, herbs, spices, and fruits, and the whole thing took up practically the entire backside of our house! But my favorite thing to do in the world was to sit on the beach. I lived in a jungle, so it was rather hard to come by sand, and even if I found some, it was usually innd, dirty, or covered by pnts. The stretch of sand that I did find was absolutely perfect, though quite hard to get to, as it was about six miles from the vilge through rough ground.

"It was beautiful, a small stretch of pristine yellow-white sand on the edge of a slow moving current of water that emptied out into the ocean, which it also bordered. The other side held stones of all kinds, in amazing patterns, some of which I enjoyed skipping across the water. I can remember how the sun set behind the ocean..." She seems to be drifting off into a memory, and I don't really have any compints. I go poof, and fly up into my own paradise among the clouds.
